The fear on the minds of the Arsenal faithful was that the team would have a let down against minnows Wigan. After the 2-1 win over Chelsea last weekend, we were looking forward to an easy win against a lowly side not expected to finish in the top 10. It almost was a let down but Arsenal managed to protect a solitary goal and complete the win.
Emmanuel Adebayor grabbed the only goal against Wigan as Arsenal earned a battling victory to maintain their push for Barclays Premier League glory. Adebayor, making his second start after returning from an ankle injury, struck in the 16th minute at the Emirates Stadium and was denied further goals by Chris Kirkland and the woodwork. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger saw Samir Nasri limp off after a robust challenge from Wilson Palacios but could reflect on three points to build on last Sunday’s win over Chelsea. Robin Van Persie also came mighty close towards the end as a well taken shot barely missed the left bottom corner. But Wigan made them work for the win and they came very close to equalizing.
