Dom Delouise : Dead At Age 75

Comedian, actor, chef & cookbook author Dom Delouise died on Monday the 4th of May. He was surrounded by his wife and three sons when he died “peacefully” Monday evening at St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California. The family have not released the cause of death at this time. He was 75.

DeLuise appeared in scores of movies and TV shows, in Broadway plays and voicing characters for numerous cartoons. Writer-director-actor Mel Brooks particularly admired DeLuise’s talent for offbeat comedy and cast him in several films, including The Twelve Chairs, Blazing Saddles, Silent Movie, History of the World Part I. DeLuise was also the voice of Pizza the Hutt in Brooks’ Star Wars parody, Spaceballs.

Balsillie Offers To Buy The Coyotes

The guy sure is consistent! RIM CEO Jim Balsillie has confirmed that he has made an offer of $212.5 million US for the Phoenix Coyotes, a deal contingent on the franchise moving to southern Ontario. Balsillie has made two previous attempts to buy an NHL team – the Pittsburgh Penguins & the Nashville Predators.

Balsillie would not identify exactly where he would like to place the team, but it is strongly believed the city of Hamilton, Ontario once again is his target. He acted quickly yesterday, swooping in to make the offer immediately after the Coyotes reportedly filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection earlier in the day.

Considering that the Coyotes were once the Winnipeg Jets and had to be sold to American owners and moved to Phoenix, it would be a sweet coming home for the franchise. If only the Blackberry magnate would consider moving the team back to Winnipeg!

Arsenal Lose Champions League Semis

Wednesday does not start well; getting the scores of last night’s Champions League Semifinal second leg between Arsenal & Manchester United. It’s put a dark & heavy cloud over my activities for the day.

Arsenal were beaten 1-3 at their own grounds as first half goals by Park Ji-Sun and Ronaldo effectively buried us. In the second half another Ronaldo goal sealed the deal and the only consolation was a penalty goal that Robin Van Persie converted. United defenceman Darren Fletcher was shown the red card for a tackle on Cesc Fabregas.

So that, as they say, is that. Arsenal’s season has all but ended, with nothing to show for it. We did have to struggle to get into the top 4 and therein Champions League playoff position for the next season. The Gunners will finish either 3rd or 4th. Here’s hoping that Wenger will see the light and finally start splurging and buy some top class big name players.
