Arsenal 6 Blackburn Rover 2

Blackburn were treated to a stunning array of flair & invention as the Gunner celebrated manager Arsene Wenger’s 13 years in charge. Rovers struck first when Steven Nzonzi headed in from Paul Robinson’s free-kick before Thomas Vermaelen lashed in a 20-yard drive to level.

???? ? ??????????? ?????

David Dunn made it 2-1 to Rovers with a deflected shot before Robin van Persie coolly slotted home from 12 yards. Andrey Arshavin’s low shot put Arsenal ahead before Cesc Fabregas volleyed in, Theo Walcott slotted home and Nicklas Bendtner’s drive sealed the romp. It was the perfect start for Arsene Wenger as he entered his era as the longest-serving Arsenal boss – he celebrated 13 years in charge of the club in midweek.

This has been a satisfying week as the London club had seen off Olympiakos of Greece in their Champions League Group H clash on Tuesday. Late goals from Robin van Persie and Andrey Arshavin made up for the many misses that they had in a match they dominated.

New Shoes, Haircut, DVDs, Drinks

As stated yesterday, I hadn’t been out for a day of fun in about a month. That has to rectified and so I went out today. First I had to buy a new pair of shoes. I pretty much wear my shoes out in less than a year as the areas near my office and my apartment have bad roads and it’s hard on my soles. Anyways, there’s a nice, small shoe shop @ Kacheripady junction on the turn to M G Road called Nibas and that’s where I got a nice black pair. Now, I have to say this – cause I’m a guy I was in the shop for less than 5 minutes! I asked for a black pair of laceless shoes with a raised heel and they found one for me in 3 minutes. I put it on, asked them to throw out my old pair that I had worn to the shop and then paid them. 5 minutes! I’d like to see a woman come close to doing that :)

That done, it was time for some coffee and so on I was off to Barista cafe and read a novel for sometime while I had a Barista carmello and a smoked chicken sandwich. It soon got way too crowded for me and I left much before I was expecting to. I went across the road to Penta Menaka and checked out the latest dvds that the guys at Cinema Paradiso had and selected three. The selections are getting a bit slim these days. Lots of movies which I haven’t heard of, with unknown actors and plots that wouldn’t tax a 3 year old’s brain.

It was quite hot there as they had a power failure and no ac or fan switched on. I made my way to the barber shop that I usually go to and got my hair cut. It had been getting kinda long, curling at the back and covering the top of my ears and at times sticking out at weird angles. So chop, chop, chop and whoa – that’s a lot of hair that’s lying on the sheet and the floor, Mr. Barberman.

By now, it was time for some drinks and so off I went to Velocity Bar and had a few vodkas + sprite with a little light lunch. It was darker than usual in the bar, so much that I had to use the glow from my cell phone to read the menu. And there were a bunch of noisy buggers on my right on two tables and another 6 or 8 buggers towards the other end of the bar.

I left in about 2 hours. And what was weird was that the bar had playing on their tv – Animal Planet! Okay, I know that some of your patrons do act like chimps in heat when they drink a few but what the fuck!

Ottawa 2 NY Rangers 5

Their season opener, played out at Madison Square Garden didn’t end up that good for the Ottawa Senators. The New York Rangers beat the Sens 5-2 with Brandon Dubinsky scoring two goals. Marian Gaborik scored for a second straight game, a goal that padded the Rangers lead to 4-1. The Rangers rebounded from a 3-2 loss in Pittsburgh on Friday night in their opener with the rare home win over the Senators, 16-4-1 in their previous 21 visits to Madison Square Garden.

Daniel Alfreddson and Peter Regin scored in the Senators’ season opener. Pascal Leclaire, making his first start since undergoing ankle surgery last December, made 29 saves in his Ottawa debut. Leclaire was solid in the first period, despite NY having 3 power plays to Ottawa’s none. On to game two.

Normal: Awesome Criminal Minds Episode

I just watched an awesome episode of Criminal Minds. It will stun you as the story of a normal man, who lives with his wife & 3 daughters, changes abruptly when his youngest daughter is killed when a car hits her. The man, Norman, was changing the tires at the time and couldn’t save his little girl. This traumatizes him and causes him to go off the bend. ???????? ???????

Norman flips when a woman, who has cut him off, also insults him and he snaps. He shots at her and causes her to crash her car and paralyze her. He also kills two men, who inquire about him, after imagining that they are mocking him. He then kills his wife & 2 remaining daughters and flees in his SUV, all the while imagining that he is driving his car with them in it.

The guest stars for this episode is memorable – Normal is played by Mitch Pillegi (X-Files, Stargate: Atlantis), his wife is played by Faith Ford (Maggie Winters, Hope & Faith) and Elanie Hendrix (Joan of Arcadia) plays the woman who cuts him off. Gina Torress (Firefly) plays the LA detective in charge of this case.

Curve, Storm,Pizzas & Shakes

I went back to work today after a day of rest yesterday (due to Gandhi Jayanthi) and tried to finish off as much work as I could. Now that is hard, especially when a colleague and I started discussing Blackberrys. We were talking about the Curve 8320 (the one that I think I will be getting next month) and the Curve 8900 (pictured here).

There was a little storm on the horizon this afternoon and as my team and I went to the rooftop cafeteria for a little lunch, at around 1:15 pm, the storm blew in! Man it was windy and pouring rain, so much that it blew away venetian blinds, wicker blind, chairs, glasses & plates. A couple of really thin people were almost blown away. The housekeeping team had to mop up buckets of rain water once it died down.

By 3 pm it was hot & sunny! Sreekumar, a guy who was in my team earlier and who now works in Chennai came to visit us forthe first time in 2 months. He took 4 of us to a nearby bakery/fast food place for milkshakes (butter scotch) and small chicken pizzas. Don’t get excited, the pizzas were nothing more flat bread with some cheese, onions & cut up pieces of chicken and tasted bad!

Stargate’s The Wraith

The main villains in Stargate: Atlantis are the Wraith. The Wraith are intelligent humanoids who are genetically close to insects, though they are predominantly human, as the evolved from the humans who live in the Pegasus galaxy. The Iratus bug feed on humans to heal & sustain itself and as it evolved, the Wraith were born. The vampire like Wraith too feed on humans, treating them akin to livestock and regarding the act of feeding as nothing more than natural predation. The Wraith expand their population by cloning as they don’t have natural procreation methods. Most of the Wraith shown in the series are male with most female ones are Queens.

Some 10,000 years from the Atlantis first season, the Wraith defeated the Ancients (the original more evolved human race) who then returned to Earth. How the Wraith feed is by a feeding organ on their palm, which they place on a human chest, drawing out their ‘life-force’. The effect on humans is rapid aging, which could lead to death unless stopped in time. Wraith are biologically immortal and do not possess the life-inhibiting proteins that cause aging.

The Wraith do not have any names that we know of but Lt.Colonel Sheppard gives captured Wraith’s human names like Steve, Bob, Todd & most famously Michael. And finally the Wraith travel in huge Hive ships, lead by a Hive Queen, just like their insect counterparts.

An Apartment In Burnaby

This is an apartment in Burnaby (a suburb of Vancouver, Canada) rented by an Israeli couple. I initially thought that the layout was weird – the big bathroom with the shower & bathtub should have been the one that’s attached to the master bedroom; instead the basic sink, mirror + toilet is the one that is attached to it. And I’m not sure how I would adjust to have the door open to a hall and straight forward to a guest bedroom!

I’ve always thought that the front door should always open to the main living room, it would be weird without that. But, after watching the video a few times, I’ve begun to like the apartment more & more. Although – the woman is a little annoying in it! So yeah, I like this apartment layout & the colours. ????? kombat

A Man Named Mohandas

We call him the Mahathma or ‘Great Soul’.

We call him the father of our nation and celebrate his birthday, October 2nd, as a national holiday.

We call him as ‘Bapu’ in affection.

He was a practitioner of ‘ahimsa’ or non-violent protest as he employed non-cooperation, non-violence and peaceful resistance as his “weapons” in the struggle against British rule.

He’s influenced millions and was Time magazine’s Man Of The Year in 1930 and runner-up to the Person Of The Century Award.

And he dedicated his life to making Indians free.

Notes For 1st October, 2009

  • Things are looking up for us @ work and I’m glad because I do not like the stress & pressure that I was under the past couple of weeks.
  • I have dark circles under my eyes the size of a football stadium; one reason is that I’ve been getting very little sleep the past few nights. I plan to sleep lots tomorrow and on Sunday.
  • Bunch of stuff happening at work; it’s gonna be busy as can be, so I might as well get lots of rest in between.
  • I had an early dinner, so once I was home, I then chilled at the pc with a cold can of Sprite.
  • I haven’t been out on the town in like a month, so that needs to get rectified this Sunday. Wanna get some coffee, some drinks and catch a good movie is there is one playing in a theater near me.
  • It’s been raining heavily today from morning and it’s been a very cool day weather-wise. Sometime back it started raining again with a heavy wind thrusting against the windows.

New Look Senators Ready For Season

With the start of the new season upon us and Ottawa in particular looking to put back last year’s bismal showing and missing the playoffs, it’s time for a fresh start. When the puck drops on their season opener on Saturday (3rd Oct) against the New York Rangers, hopefully the new faces & old guard will be able to rise to the occassion and put behind the drama that surrounded Dany Heatley’s long drawn trade to San Jose.

?????????? ????? ?????? ???2

Senators Coach Cory Clouston confirmed that there would no more moves and that the roster is set. So we see newcomer Milan Michalek join Daniel Alfredsson & Jason Spezza on the top line, while Alexie Kovalev will skate with Mike Fisher & youngster Peter Regin. Nick Foligno, Ryan Shannon and Cheechoo will make up the third unit, while Jarkko Ruutu, Chris Kelly and Chris Neil will skate on the fourth line, with Shean Donovan as the extra forward.

Chris Phillips and Anton Volchenkov, the team’s No. 1 defence pairing, will be counted on to shut down opponents’ top lines. Chris Campoli, Filip Kuba, Alex Picard and newcomer Erik Karlsson are more finesse style, puck moving defencemen. Defenceman/winger Matt Carkner is also around for his toughness.
