Normal Is Boring

Is being β€œnormal” β€” whatever that means to you β€” a good thing, or a bad thing? Neither?

It depends on how you look at it but for the most part being normal or living as the norm dictates is boring. It might be safe, offers stability and solid comfort but being normal all the time is downright boring. Imagine if everything around you and everyone around you acted normal – you’d want to kill yourself! The men & women who created innovative stuff that we now take for granted did not treat anything as normal or else they wouldn’t have done the groundbreaking things that they have or created the groundbreaking things that they have and changed the world for us.

I’m not “normal” by any standards of where I am. I don’t go by what’s usually accepted over here and go by what I like. I don’t want other people or tradition created by people a few hundred or a 1000 years ago dictate how I live my life. There are some really nice things that are part of the norm but not all of it is for everyone. Be yourself, make your own traditions that are governed by your passions, your likes and dislikes and not by some old fart who lived in an era that has got nothing to do with your own. Take the best out of the old and screw the rest! I’m a big believer in customization of everything I own and I try to stick to that for everything and not just my gadgets like computers, laptops or mobile phones.

So don’t be “abnormal” but instead try something different and do not just accept what is standard. We all need a little crazy in our lives. Screw the rules, shake up things and be unique! Be yourself!

Drunk On The Joy Of Shame

Yeah, that’s what I’m talking about. Todd Kerns, who has been in two seminal Canadian alt-rock bands Static in Stereo & Age Of Electric, and then did his solo debut in 2004, went on to join Sin City Sinners (with Brent Muscat) and then went to tour the world playing bass for Slash in support of the latter’s huge solo debut Slash. He would also then play all the bass tracks for Slash’s follow up Apocalyptic Love and tour behind it. Now he’s got his second solo album out called Borrowing Trouble and here’s a song from it – The Devil In Me!
