Updated To WordPress 3.8 aka “Parker”

Uptil a few weeks ago I had completely been ignoring updating any of the themes, plugins or even the WordPress version in my blog for the past year or so. That caused me some problems with my blog’s webserver and I had my blog / website blocked temporarily as it was creating alerts to them and they emailed me about it. Fortunately I was able to contact them and they unblocked it for me and asked me to do the updates and delete any plugins & themes that I wasn’t using.

A quick check saw that I had about 7 to 8 plugins that I could delete and around 6 that needed updating desperately. Also I had so many themes installed and out of date version wise when I don’t use any of them and have been using this current theme exclusively for a little over 2 years. So I quickly updated everything I needed and deleted all the crap I wasn’t using and had no intention of ever using again. But after I updated WordPress (3.7. something) I noticed that I couldn’t view the ‘Visual’ option when I wanted to make a new post. It was so frustrating but I managed by just using the HTML tab. I tried reinstalling WordPress but that didn’t solve the issue. I did a manual upload & update and that didn’t work either.

Today morning I saw that they had a new version out, 3.8 or “Parker”, so I updated it from the dashboard hoping that it would solve my problems. It updated it but didn’t solve the problem. Then I deleted some of the WordPress folders and manually uploaded & reinstalled WordPress again but it still wasn’t solving the problem. Then I went online  and tried asking people on Facebook & Twitter if they knew how to solve this issue.

Finally I found the answer by goggling it and finding the answer in a Wodpress problem. It is a common issue for some people or so it seems. Maybe it is only with Firefox but anyway, it’s done and I’m happy. Also, I am loving the new awesome look of version 3.8. Very improved and sleeker looking!

A Haunted House

The Wayans brothers are famous for making movies with their brand of humour and parodying horror flicks. This time it’s just Marlon who stars, co-produces and co-wrote A Haunted House which is mostly parodying the found footage style of recent horror movies especially Paranormal Activity and a bit of The Devil Inside. During interviews to promote the film, Wayans explained “it’s not exactly a parody” but rather a movie with funny characters doing the opposite of what typical white people do in similar horror films. Co-starring with him is Essence Atkins, Cedric The Entertainer, Nick Swardson, David Koechner, Dave Sheridan, Marlene Forte & Alanna Ubach.

The movie is set in a nice suburban house, much like in the Paranormal Activity movies where Malcolm Johnson is awaiting his girlfriend Keisha who is just moving in. However, as he starts filming, things go wrong as she kills his boy by accident when she drives over him. After a funeral for the dog, they start to put away Keisha’s large collection of things after the maid Rosa leaves. Post dinner on their first night at home Malcolm is stunned by the stinky farts that Keisha does in her sleep. When Kisha notices her keys on the floor she tries to tell Malcolm that they might have a ghost. To put her mind at ease, Malcolm has two  men setup cameras all over the house, in addition to his handheld ones. While watching their sexual act the previous night, Keisha notices that the door moved on it’s own, which Malcolm dismisses using sexual jokes. The next night, Malcolm notices the paranormal activity and tries to move out of the house and leave Kisha. Since he could not sell his house in the current market, they call a psychic , Chip, over to check the house. Chip who is gay is more interested in getting to know Malcolm, as he has the hots for him.

Before Chip can leave, after finding nothing wrong, Kisha confesses to making a deal with the devil for a pair of shoes. She then shows Malcolm a video of her 8th birthday in which she plays with her imaginary friend. That night Kisha awakens in the middle of the night and stands next to the bed for a couple of hours until she begins to randomly dance for another hour and slaps Malcolm’s face to awaken him. Malcolm wakes up and follows Kisha to the kitchen where he catches her eating uncooked food and drinking old milk. Kisha tells him that she’s going to the store, but Malcolm tries to get her back to bed until she starts screaming crazily. In the morning, Kisha does not remember a thing from the prior night. The following night they hear sounds but it is only Rosa who was sleeping in the spare room and having hit her, thinking she was a ghost, Rosa quits. After that to relieve tension Malcolm & Keisha smoke weed and the ghost joins them. The next night, after they have their friends Steve & his wife Jenny over for dinner they use an ouija board to communicate with the ghost. However when it misspells ‘ghost’ as ‘gost, the 4 of them make fun of it and the angered ghost hrows the ouija board across the room, scaring Jenny and Steve out of the house. That night, the ghost drags Malcolm out of the room and has sex with Kisha. Malcolm even calls his cousin Ray-Ray and his gang over as the ghost had sex with Keisha but they are scared away when the living room furniture levitates to the ceiling and then drops heavily.

The next night Kisha waits for the ghost until it gets late and leaves. After Kisha leaves, the ghost rapes Malcolm. The couple then decide to ignore the ghost no matter what it does but it gets angry and when Malcolm is listening to music, it attacks Keisha and possesses her. Malcolm noticing her odd behaviour calls father Doug, an ex-con, to exorcise her but it fails and so Malcolm calls Dan and Bobby, the camera security men who are avid ghost hunters as well, to help as well as Chip. During the exorcism, Kisha escapes and goes into the living room. Before Malcolm and Doug find her, Doug accidentally shoots Rosa, who had come to pick up her last check, and kills her. Keisha then escapes to the basement & when Malcolm reaches for her, she begins to attack him and the whole group begins to beat her up, apparently forcing the ghost out of her body. Thinking that it is over the rest leave and the next night Malcolm & Keisha resume their lives by having a marathon sex session. In the middle of the night, Kisha wakes up and stand next to the bed for a few hours before walking out of the room and making a big crash and screaming Malcolm’s name for him to investigate. When Malcolm comes out of his room, Kisha throws him back and he hits the camera, knocking him out. When Kisha enters the room her shirt is bloody. She crawls to Malcolm and sniffs his body until he farts in her face. As Kisha lunges at the camera her face takes on a demonic appearance and the screen goes black. In the epilogue, Malcolm wakes up and celebrates that he lived until Kisha comes back in and drags him out of the room, ending the movie.

Filled with silly jokes, Black American humour (I just can’t understand that idiot Cedric) and farts, sexual references & innuendoes and some funny scenes, it’s good but not as good as I had hoped it would be. Made on a budget of $ 2.5 million the movie made almost $60 million back, hence a sequel is already set for 2014. I’d give it a 6.5 outta 10! Ok for some laughs.

Arsenal 3 Manchester City 6

It was painful to watch. Manchester City has been on a scoring romp lately, beating top sides by large margins of goals. Manuel Pellegrini’s side closed the gap on the Gunners to three points with another in a growing list of devastating attacking displays at home this season. And they have piled on the agony for North London’s two contenders as Arsenal suffered following City’s recent 6-0 demolition of Tottenham. All was not gloom for Arsenal as they may point to some questionable offside calls and a rejected penalty claim but Man City was a force that could not be stopped as they have now scored 35 league goals at home this season.

Sergio Aguero’s early goal was cancelled out by Theo Walcott but Alvaro Negredo put City back in front before half-time. City’s potency was not reduced by a calf injury to Aguero, with Fernandinho extending their lead before Walcott’s second restored some optimism for Arsene Wenger’s side. But the hosts were coming at Arsenal from all angles, with David Silva and Fernandinho again finding the target before Per Mertesacker’s header made it 5-3 in stoppage time. That was indeed how it should have stayed but City got the final word as Yaya Toure’s penalty gave them another six goals in what is become a catalogue of virtuoso performances at home. Arsenal will have to go back to the video of this game to showcase some poor defending and certainly goalkeeper Szczesny, who despite some clean sheets is a big suspect, has to be blamed for atleast 2 of the goals.

Oliver Giroud should have scored atleast twice while Jack Wilshire was denied by a brilliant stop from City’s goalie Costel Pantilimon. This game & performance just reiterates what I have been ranting about for the past couple of years and this year even with Arsenal being on top of the league for most of the season – it showcased our huge weaknesses and the fact that this squad has been over-performing. Wenger has to change or be replaced if Arsenal have any hope of winning any more titles.
