A misused word, a misremembered song lyric, a cream pie that just happened to be there: tell us about a time you (or someone else) said or did something unintentionally funny.
It was at the office a few years ago. Post the hiring of a new set of employees for the BPO I then worked at, one of the trainers who reported to me had a problem with one of his trainees. He had just completed the training for the batch of new inductees and they were in their on the job stage and I do not remember if the work /call flow was quite heavy the past few days or not but it is usually this stage that makes or breaks an employee in the BPO industry. This is when they find out whether of not they can do the job.
So he had brought her to the HR bay, which is two bays away from where me and the rest of the training team usually sit and then he came to inform me about the conversation he had with this girl. Apparently she fell “ill” (a generic term for laziness) and she “consulted” a doctor who told her – and these are the words I heard by the way I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP – that she cannot do a “sit down” type of job! That is the translation into English of what was said. My initial reaction was “If she cannot do a sit down type of job, what can she only do a job where she can lie down”?
Now, I had no other intention other than just pointing out laziness but the 8-10 people near me who heard this burst out into tear-inducing laughter. I too started laughing out at the implication of what I said (for those of you who are slow, a job done while lying down could mean that of getting paid to have sex) and I had to correct my statement. But for several days after that, I got ribbed for my unintentional joke!
