Jurassic World

The 4th film in the Jurassic Park movie franchise, Jurassic World is a 2015 American science fiction adventure film. It was directed and co-written by Colin Trevorrow, produced by Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, and stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. Judy Greer, Vincent D’Onofrio, B. D. Wong, Irrfan Khan & Omar Sy co-star in the film.

Set twenty-two years after the events of Jurassic Park, Jurassic World takes place on the same fictional island of Isla Nublar, off the Pacific coast of Central America, where a fully functioning dinosaur theme park has operated for ten years. The park plunges into chaos when a genetically modified dinosaur, Indominus rex, breaks loose and runs rampant across the island. Brothers Zach and Gray Mitchell are sent there to visit their aunt, Claire Dearing, the park’s operations manager. Owen Grady, who trains the park’s Velociraptors that considers him the pack alpha, is the film’s hero who joins Claire in trying to get to her nephews who go off on their own and are attacked by the dinosaur. Here are my points on the film:

  • Visually this movie is a treat and an incredible rush of excitement. The dinosaurs are life-like to watch, the effects are wonderfully done and I think everyone who watched this movie should be entertained. What is missing though is the sense of awe and amazement that the first movie gave us. The story lacked depth in it’s writing and it doesn’t really offer you much in variation other than a few “new” dinosaurs.
  • The main “villain” dino is the new attraction to the park, a genetically modified, synthetic dinosaur called Indominus rex. The dinosaur has the base genome of a Tyrannosaurus rex and the DNA of several predatory dinosaurs, including Velociraptors, as well as modern-day animals. The fact that the park’s owners and management wanted to get a more dangerous animal as an attraction by experimenting is chilling. But he gets killed finally by a T-Rex, albeit with some help from the raptors and a Mosasaurus who drags the I-rex into the lagoon, almost like Godzilla kills those two creatures in the 2014 film.
  • Speaking of the raptors, they are my favourite part of the film and everytime they were on screen I was glad. Raptors are cool. The only thing that could rival them is that dinoshark or the Mosasaurus that is so freaking awesome. He bite the head of the I-Rex and drags the creature down in the waters that seals the fate of the villain. Watching the Mosasaurus jumping from the water to catch it’s prey is just awesome.
  • The human characters with the exception of the two leads and the boys that play the nephews lack much depth in character though it is expected with the focus on the dinosaurs but that’s something that the original film managed to get. The only other character who managed to shine was Vic Hoskins the head of InGen security operations, who wants to use the raptors and the Indominus rex as weapons for war.
  • There is something for people of all ages to enjoy and the movie managed to sneak in some really effective humour that livens the mood a bit. All in all a very enjoyable film.

Jurassic World has generated over $1.6 billion in box office revenue, standing as the third highest-grossing film of all time without inflation adjustment, as well as the highest-grossing film of 2015. A sequel is scheduled for release on June 22, 2018. I’d give it an 8.5 outta 10!

Food Review #53

A take away food review of a KFC menu item. Juicy, crispy chicken fillet, topped with spicy, creamy 3 pepper mayo and iceberg lettuce, served in a soft warm bun. The Hot & Saucy chicken is juicy, crispy chicken in a yummy chilli garlic sauce with chilli flakes and bits of garlic and parsley. I liked the latter much more.

And The Dreams Goes By…

I had a weird dream last night that I was in a heavily crowded junction in the city with some of my cousins when a bomb threat was discovered. The cops came and tried to defuse it but with just 60 seconds left they announced that they cudn’t defuse it in time and massive panic struck as people screamed and tried running – in vain and the place was so crowded with people.

Then the bomb went off and the whole place, huge sections of the city went up in flames as people got engulfed in the fires and buildings and cars were destroyed. I cud see the whole thing from above (even though I should be dead) and the charred remains of bodies lying everywhere. Suddenly I was in a nice comfy bed in what looked liked a lovely bedroom in a beautiful house and a beautiful woman came in with a tray of coffee and toast and eggs, apparently to wake me up with breakfast in bed and calling me “Honey, breakfast is ready. Sit with me and enjoy the morning”. And all I could think of was……

This is not my beautiful house, this is not my beautiful wife! How did I get here?
