Pinpoint a moment in your past where you had to make a big decision. Write about that other alternate life that could have unfolded.
I know if offhand and I don’t have to think about it at all. January 5th 2011 – the day I had to make a decision and resigned from my job at a place because it was becoming a personal hell for me because of the asshole who was in charge of the center. Let me say that it was the same for quite other folks as well but I think me and 2 others had it the worse and I was the first one to leave of his own accord but in retrospect that was the start of a terrible long spell for me financially and career wise and I wish I could go back in time to make some changes.
You see, I put down my resignation papers due to the lying, the constant harrassment and mental torture that this asshole inflicted on me and partly on my team and I had just about had enough the past October and asked my direct reporting manager (who was in in another city and had 9 of us reporting to him) to check for possible transfers for me. None were available and by December things were getting out of hand and the straw that broke the camel’s back was when he tried to put the blame on me for a decision he made and I refused. That was the end of it. After speaking with my reporting manager, I agreed that I would leave after serving two months notice because there were important stuff happening and they needed to find a replacement for me. I started searching for a new job and unfortunately the one I choose was with a startup that would fail less than a year later.
I never recovered truly after that and I have had to take jobs (although I am getting better pay right now) by compromising as I really needed them. I went through a jobless period as well and it was hell as the second place I went to, also a startup had so many financial constraints 6 months after I joined and salaries were being delayed. So I struggled for a long time and I am ok now but still I think I would have been better off if I could have looked around a lot more back in 2011 and made a wiser and better informed decision.
