Day 1 : Hotel Abaam Stay

So, as mentioned before, I am now on Day 1 of my 3 day and 3 night stay in a hotel. The hotel that I choose is a 4 star boutique hotel. It’s not very big but then that’s how I like it. Anyways, I needed a break; a break away from work and from home. So I have 5 days off including my weekend but I have booked myself a room in Abaam for 3 days and 3 nights. I could use the time to just relax and chill in a hotel and enjoy myself.

The only thing I don’t like about the place is the actual bed. It’s not the kind that I like. It seems to dip in the wrong places and the edges are much harder. As I hadn’t slept all night I took a nap after a lunch of chicken biryani and a beer.

IMG_20190228_133129

Everything else seems to be good. Food is good. Beer is priced heavily which is something that I don’t like but that is the case for all mid to high end bars & hotels. So far I have only ordered in room service. Tomorrow I want to check out their bar and coffee shop and maybe on Saturday I will visit their main restaurant.

Enjoy the pics as I enjoy my beer and my dinner, which is chicken noodles and garlic chicken.

Bed : Where I Lay My Head

I will be sleeping in a different bed for the next three days, including today. Since October 2006 I have always slept in the same bed with the exception of three occasions. I spent 1 week in Chennai in August of 2015 and I slept in the bed in the room given to me at the service apartment. Then in March of 2016 I was in Gurgaon for 12 days and I was put up in a hotel for that duration. I changed rooms in between so I guess that is 2 bed there.

That same April due to the only elevator being replaced in our building, my folks and I stayed in my sister & brother-in-law’s apartment for 5 weeks. I stayed in one of the bedrooms and slept in the bed in there for that duration. But other than that I haven’t slept in another bed than my own in about 12 & a half years! I like my bed; it  might not be the best or the softest but it’s what I sleep in and I find it comfortable. In Gurgaon, the second room that I was had a really nice soft bed with just the right amount of firmness to make it almost perfect.

I hope I get a really nice bed for the next three days. I will be spending almost all of my time in the room so I will be on the bed a lot. I need it to be comfy.

Grouchy Be Gone

How do you cheer up a grouchy person?

It totally depends on the person. I have no set standards but a funny joke is usually the best option. Play some funny songs (music videos if you have them), funny fart noises always seem to work. Trust me, fart noises always do the trick.

Watch a funny movie always does the job. Off the top of my head I can think of 10 movies I would watch and make other people watch to chase away the grouchiness. Or sit and talk about the good times over a beer or two. Have some good food. Maybe some harder liquour as well.

Do all the things that the person likes to do and enjoy in the fun together. That always ensures smiles.

Change Of Hotel Room & Venue

Since my update 3 days ago, I have since cancelled my hotel room booking! Fear not dear reader, I am not cancelling my staycation. I am just changing the hotel. So my first choice for which I couldn’t get a room, has since had vacancies and I cancelled the room I had booked with another hotel and then booked this one.

This one is more expensive and a better hotel but with the deal I got with GoIbibo, I saved some money and hence it turned out to be cheaper! Plus this hotel is better because, they serve beer! Yippe! Guests staying there can avail -breakfast (Indian & Continental), 2 bottled mineral water (500ml),Tea or Coffee maker, WIFI, soap, Dental kit, comb, shampoo, moisturizer, shoeshine strip, all-purpose kit, free internet access, daily choice of complimentary newspaper, shoe shine machine, valet parking, health club, guest stationary, shaving Kit, Shower Cap, Hair Dryer, Iron & Iron Board, Safe Deposit lockers, luggage room and Wheel chair.

They have a cafe where I can take my book and go and enjoy a few coffees. Beer and wine are available throughout. It doesn’t look like they have a license to serve hard liqour but yeah beer will be fine. I cannot wait for Thursday noon!

Bizarre Chelsea Power Struggle

This was one of the most bizarre incidents I have ever seen in football! A player refusing to go off – and his manager losing the plot. Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga resisted Maurizio Sarri’s attempt to substitute him late in extra time of the Carabao Cup final, which left his manager seething on the touchline. Kepa had just been treated for cramp and, with the game at 0-0, Sarri was preparing to bring on reserve keeper Willy Caballero in his place before a penalty shootout.

But after some furious finger-wagging and screams of “NO!”, Sarri was forced to give in. Referee Jonathan Moss ran over to confirm whether Kepa was going off or not and Sarri, begrudgingly, backed down and then stormed off down the tunnel before quickly returning, leaving Caballero a bemused spectator. Kepa went on to save Leroy Sane’s spot-kick – prompting a fist pump from Sarri – but Raheem Sterling netted the winning penalty as Manchester City won the shootout 4-3 to lift the Carabao Cup for a second year in a row. Sarri didn’t react at full-time and went straight off the pitch, while his players looked dejected in defeat.

Arsenal 2 Southampton 0

Arsenal punished struggling Southampton with two first-half goals to move back into the top four of the Premier League. The Gunners led when Alexandre Lacazette reacted quickest to turn in Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s shot, with the Saints’ claims for offside proving futile. And they doubled their lead shortly after when Mkhitaryan drilled a shot into the bottom corner. Arsenal should have scored more in a dominant first half, but ultimately it mattered little as those goals were enough to move Unai Emery’s side above Manchester United, who drew at home to Liverpool. Saints, who missed good chances through Nathan Redmond and Matt Targett before each of Arsenal’s goals, offered more resistance after the break.

But they remain in the bottom three, a point adrift of fourth-bottom Cardiff, after failing to win for a fourth successive league game. Arsenal have struggled for consistency under Emery in the second half of the season, alternating between wins and defeats in each of their 10 previous matches before Southampton’s visit. In truth, anything other than a home win against the Saints looked unlikely. However, Emery may be concerned with his side’s inability to demolish their lowly opponents. The Gunners looked potent every time they burst forward, particularly in the first half, and in the closing stages, against a Southampton side which looked fragile at the back. Lacazette was allowed the space to turn in the opener, with the visitors’ defence unorganised and too concerned about appealing for offside, for his 13th goal of the season. After Mkhitaryan doubled the lead, the France striker should have added another but somehow scooped over the bar from a few yards out.

Arsenal’s dominance was illustrated by the 11 shots which they attempted in the first half, nine of which came from inside the Saints area. After the break they failed to assert themselves in a similar fashion, until Pierre-Emerick’s Aubameyang’s introduction as a late substitute stretched the visitors again. The Gabon striker was unable to add to his 18 goals for the season, tamely side-footing at Saints keeper Angus Gunn from close range and seeing another effort blocked by Jannik Vestergaard’s sliding challenge. Ultimately, they still had enough to see off Southampton, but are likely to need to be sharper in the final third if they are to stay ahead of United and Chelsea to secure a return to the Champions League next season. That is also particularly pertinent as, despite keeping a rare clean sheet, they still needed keeper Bernd Leno to be alert to prevent Southampton finding a foothold in the game.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is a 2018 fantasy film directed by David Yates and written by J. K. Rowling. A joint British and American production, it is the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016). It is the second installment in the Fantastic Beasts film series, and the tenth overall in the Wizarding World franchise, which began with the Harry Potter film series. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Zoë Kravitz, Callum Turner, Claudia Kim, William Nadylam, Kevin Guthrie, Jude Law, and Johnny Depp. The plot follows Newt Scamander and Albus Dumbledore as they attempt to take down the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, while facing new threats in a more divided wizarding world.

In 1927, the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA) is transferring the powerful dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald from their maximum security prison to London to be tried for his crimes in Europe. Grindelwald escapes during the transfer, aided by his follower and MACUSA employee, Abernathy. 3 months later in London, Newt Scamander appeals to the Ministry of Magic to restore his revoked international travel rights following his misadventure in New York City. While at the Ministry, Newt runs into Leta Lestrange, an old Hogwarts classmate who is engaged to his brother, Theseus, an auror in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. The Ministry offers to restore Newt’s travel rights if he assists Theseus in locating the obscurial Credence Barebone, who has resurfaced in Paris.

They believe Credence may be Leta’s long-lost brother, Corvus Lestrange, the last of a long line of pure-blood wizards. Grindelwald believes only Credence can kill his “equal”, Hogwarts Professor Albus Dumbledore. Newt, however, declines, refusing to choose a side, and the auror Grimmson is dispatched instead. Dumbledore meanwhile has another meeting with Newt to convince him but does not give him an answer. Newt’s American friends, Queenie Goldstein and Jacob Kowalski, arrive at his house and finds out that Jacon remembers his time in New York as only his bad memories were wiped but his time with Newt, Queenie & Tina were good. Tina is in London to search for Credence. Seeing Jacob’s odd behaviour, Newt realises that Queenie has enchanted him into eloping to Europe with her to circumvent MACUSA’s marriage ban between wizards and muggles. After Newt lifts the charm, Jacob and Queenie quarrel about the marriage law, and an upset Queenie leaves to find Tina. Newt realises Tina is in Paris, and, ignoring the travel ban, he and Jacob follow the sisters to Europe.

Credence and Nagini, a young female circus attraction who can transform into a snake, while searching for Credence’s birth mother, locate the servant who put him up for adoption. However, Grimmson, who is secretly working for Grindelwald, arrives and kills her. Meanwhile, Tina meets Yusuf Kama, who is also hunting Credence. Later, Newt and Jacob also encounter Yusuf and follow him to Tina. Yusuf, revealed to be Leta’s maternal half-brother, says he made an Unbreakable Vow to kill Credence, whom he believes is his step-brother, Corvus, and the last of the Lestrange family. Newt and Tina sneak into the Paris branch French Ministry of Magic to retrieve documents confirming Credence’s identity and reconcile. Leta joins them reveals that Credence cannot be Corvus Lestrange: as a child, she inadvertently caused the death of her infant brother by switching him with baby Credence while on a doomed New York-bound passenger ship, thereby sparing Credence and leaving Corvus presumably drowned. Meanwhile, a fabricated trail has lured Credence to the Lestrange tomb where Grindelwald is holding a rally for his followers. Jacob finds Queenie, now seemingly aligned with Grindelwald, in the audience there.

Grindelwald preaches the abolition of laws concealing wizards from muggles, and utilizes images of the imminent Second World War to justify worldwide wizard supremacy and domination. Aurors surround the rally, led by Theseus, but Grindelwald fends them off while unleashing his emissaries to spread his word across Europe. Grindelwald casts a circle of blue flame to divide followers from enemies. Credence and Queenie cross over to join him, while Leta sacrifices herself to save Newt, Tina, Jacob, Yusuf, Nagini, and Theseus. As Grindelwald escapes, the remaining heroes unite alongside the immortal alchemist Nicolas Flamel to fend off a curse that Grindelwald directed at Paris. Seeing the devastation, Newt realizes he must join the fight.

At Hogwarts, Newt gives Dumbledore a vial, secretly taken from Grindelwald, that contains a blood pact that Grindelwald and Dumbledore made as teenagers. Newt correctly surmises that the pact magically prevents the two from combatting each other; Dumbledore believes it may be possible to destroy the pact. In his base at Nurmengard in Austria, Grindelwald tells Credence that he is actually Albus Dumbledore’s long-lost brother, Aurelius, and the only person powerful enough to defeat him. Queenie uses her mind-reading ability to advise Grindelwald on ways to control Credence. A baby bird that Credence had been caring for is revealed to be a phoenix, a bird associated with the Dumbledore family. Grindelwald then provides Credence with his first wand, and the film ends as Credence casts a spell for the first time.

Again this is a spectacular movie to watch and there are some good performances. It is hard not to like the lead characters and, for me especially, Queenie who is so sweet but the story is unnecessarily over-complicated and messy. I felt a little bored much like in the first film. I must say that even though I gave the first movie a 6.5 outta 10, on second viewing I would raise the rating to an 8. Much like that for this one too I guess. I give it a 6.5 outta 10! A second viewing might change my mind.

Leave Applied

Well I have applied for my leave for 3 days and I have received the ok. So next week Wednesday to Friday I am on leave and then combined with my weekend, I will have 5 days of relaxation.

I have been looking at nice hotels to book a room in and I had settled on one but when I checked earlier today they are all booked for the days I want a room. So I found another one, equally nice looking and they have great ratings, and the room is cheaper. I will have free Wifi, complimentary breakfast and a 32 inch tv. Plus tea & coffee maker  in the room, etc.

I plan to put my feet up, kick back with a book or two, watch lots of tv, enjoy the air-conditioned room and chill. I will not do anything major, no traveling or sight seeing. I will order in room service and listen to music. No headaches or thinking about work or home. It will be nice to get away and forget about everything and everyone else.

Arsenal 3 Bate Borisov 0

Arsenal powered into the last 16 of the Europa League with a comfortable second-leg victory over Bate Borisov at Emirates Stadium. Trailing 1-0 from the first leg, they scored inside four minutes when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s cross was turned in by Bate defender Zakhar Volkov. Centre-back Shkodran Mustafi made it 2-0 before the break with a powerful header following Granit Xhaka’s corner. Substitute Sokratis Papastathopoulos headed in the third goal after an hour. After a disappointing performance in losing the first leg in Belarus, Arsenal needed to score at least twice to go through.

Bate were denied an equaliser just four minutes after Arsenal had taken the lead, when Stephan Lichtsteiner slid in to make a goalline clearance from Stanislav Dragun’s header. The visitors also went close when Maksim Skavysh hit the side-netting in the first half, but Arsenal had better chances through Alex Iwobi, Xhaka and Aubameyang. The Gunners looked full of energy in the opening stages – winning two early corners and forcing a save from keeper Denis Scherbitski when Iwobi pounced on Lichtsteiner’s cross. They were rewarded when the ball bounced off Volkov’s shin and into the back of the net to give them a crucial equalising goal in the tie.

Arsenal continued to press high up the pitch and created chances in both halves. They had 22 shots – including 15 in the box – and put in 24 crosses from open play. Xhaka forced Scherbitski into a smart save with a powerful long-range effort in the first half, while Mesut Ozil – making just his second start of 2019 and first in four games – poked a shot wide of the left post and Aubameyang’s free-kick was saved after the break. Bate did come close on a few occasions – Skavysh got in behind Nacho Monreal only to slam the ball into the side-netting, before Dragun’s header was kept out by Lichtsteiner. But Arsenal were dominant throughout and never really looked like conceding a costly away goal.

Two Blonde Jokes

A blonde and a redhead have a ranch. They have just lost their bull. The women need to buy another, but only have $500. The redhead tells the blonde, “I will go to the market and see if I can find one for under that amount. If I can, I will send you a telegram.” She goes to the market and finds one for $499. Having only one dollar left, she goes to the telegraph office and finds out that it costs one dollar per word. She is stumped on how to tell the blonde to bring the truck and trailer. Finally, she tells the telegraph operator to send the word “comfortable.” Skeptical, the operator asks, “How will she know to come with the trailer from just that word?” The redhead replies, “She’s a blonde so she reads slow: ‘Come for ta bull.'”

=========================================================

There are 11 people hanging onto a rope that comes down from an airplane. 10 of them are blonde, and one is a brunette. They all decide that one person should get off because if they don’t, the rope will break and everyone will die. No one can decide who should go, so finally the brunette delivers a very touching speech, ending with the words, “I’ll get off.” The blondes, all moved by the brunette’s speech, start clapping. Problem solved.

Packing For A Trip

How do you pack for a trip?
How do I pack for a trip? Well I go on so few of them (3 times in the last few years) that I am not used to it. But hey, how hard can it be right?

I usually get my bag or suitcase, whichever it may be, open on my bed. Then I start putting things in it. Pants go right to the bottom. Then shirts, undershirts and underwear. Socks, handkerchiefs on top of that. I usually keep my lungis (coloured dhotis) on top of them. I usually have bags or suitcases that have a separate section on the top side / lid. That’s where I would keep things like medicines, toiletries, shaving set and stuff.

I usually will have a carry on or laptop bag where my laptop, phone charger and anything else can be stuffed into. Some additional cash to be used in an emergency. Maybe a novel or two.

Where Do You Want To Be In 10 Years?

Where do you want to be in ten years?

Retired. With lots of money. In a nice apartment or house. With no need to worry about another day of working, having won a large amount in a lottery.

With a hot babe 20 years younger than me in my arms. With a dog or two that I keep as a pet. With all the luxuries that come with this lifestyle. With all the things that I have wanted to buy till now and enough money to buy what I need in the future. And going on holidays and staying in the finest hotels and seeing the sights and sceneries that every place has to offer.

Sounds like a nice dream. I would love that.
