Perfect Companion

If you could have any pet, what kind of animal would it be? Why?

I think this should be a given by now and one of the least secretive things about me but I love dogs. As much as I love cats and would love to have a couple in my family, I prefer dogs. I have had 2 cats as pets and at one point my sister and I took care of 4 strays who’s mother birthed them inside out storage room for a few days. But I have had a dog for 11 years and take care of another dog for 1 year and I miss having dogs.

So if I could have any pet I would get a dog and I would want a Golden Retriever. They are the best. Second would be a Labrador retriever as they are very alike. Ah, to have the love of a dog with you. You know what, since we are making wishes, I just want my Shawny back. I wish I could get her back once again as a puppy and we can spend all her life making sure she is loved and pampered. She really was the best.

When I see pics or videos of dogs and the relationship they have with their humans, I get a twinge in my heart. It’s a combination of envy and jealousy with a big dash of missing what I used to have. Someday I guess I will have another dog in my life. And I want it to be a female dog, because the two dogs that I have taken care of were both female and I guess I associate that companionship, loyalty & love to the female of the dog species.

Did You Eat Cafeteria Food?

Not in school. When I was a kid in school until the age of 11 I lived in Kuwait and we had an early start to the school day. My sister and I came home and ate lunch by 1pm-1:30 pm with mum, who would usually have the food ready for us or would be deep into cooking it when we came home. At times dad too would have lunch with us, since he could walk to the bank he worked at.

We did have a snack which is usually a packed food that our mum made and sent us to the school with. When my family moved back to India, the times changed to a more regular time and half way though the school day we had a 45 minute lunch break. However my school was in the process of still building part of the school and there was no cafeteria at all. Hence each and every student brought their lunch packed from home.

I took would bring a packed lunch and that’s how it was until I went to a college. There I used their cafeteria for lunch purposes and ate whatever they had on the menu. It was usually good as they had a really good cook and manager who ran the place.

Some Day, I Too!

Why Do We Like to Watch Rich People on TV and in the Movies?

It’s the very human behaviour of trying to think of ourselves as being in that position of wealth and fame. We look at rich people, they way they live and spend money, their cars, the way they dress, the way they travel and play and we want that as well. It’s simple and it’s the reason why people strive to do better.

Why do we buy lottery tickets? It’s the glimmer of hope that someday, with a lot of luck, I too may win the big bucks and then I will swim in it. I want a whole lotta money so I can buy a big, new house. Or a couple of large apartments. Give my family a break and buy them all the things that they want. When the pandemic is finally over, take them on a holiday. Give them luxuries that they deserve. Have a big party, the party to end all parties!

That’s why we love to see how the rich people live. Cause we also want to live that way or do it bigger & better.

How To Make Red Wine Sangria

INGREDIENTS

2 medium apples
2 medium oranges
1/2 cup brandy
1/4 cup orange liquor, such as Cointreau
1 (750-milliliter) bottle red wine
2 to 3 cups sparkling water, chilled
Ice

INSTRUCTIONS

Cut up the fruit. Cut the oranges and apples into thin slices or wedges. Leave the peels on. Transfer the cut fruit to a pitcher.

Add the brandy. Measure the brandy and pour it over the fruit.

Add the orange liquor. Measure the orange liquor and pour it into the pitcher as well.

Add the wine. Uncork the wine and pour it into the pitcher.

Stir to combine. Stir the liquor, wine, and fruit together.

Cover and refrigerate. Do not taste the sangria now; you will be disappointed! Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or preferably overnight. The sangria gets softer, sweeter, and much more delicious overnight in the fridge.

Top with sparkling water. When ready to serve, top off the sangria with sparkling water. Stir gently to combine. Taste and add more if desired. Scoop a few pieces of fruit into each ice-filled glass when serving.

Scream (Movie Review)

This is a horror franchise I didn’t get much into other than the first movie. I remember watching this film back in the late 90s maybe once or twice but that’s it. I haven’t watched it since then nor have I seen any of the sequels. It’s time to rectify that and I plan to watch all of them before the new one comes out or I can get to watch it.

Arsenal 0 Aston Villa 3

Ollie Watkins said it was “unbelievable” to score against the team he supports as his double helped Aston Villa claim an impressive victory at Arsenal to move up to sixth in the Premier League. The visitors took the lead midway through the first half when Bukayo Saka turned Matt Targett’s cross into his own net. Watkins, who scored a hat-trick in a 7-2 win against champions Liverpool earlier this season, made it 2-0 with a header towards the end of the second half and scored his second soon after, slotting the ball under Bernd Leno after a quick break. The 24-year-old, who has now scored six goals this season, added: “I think I have another level.

The Gunners had gone into this game looking to build on their impressive 1-0 win against Manchester United last time out, but despite dominating possession they created very little, with Alexandre Lacazette going closest when he headed over Kieran Tierney’s cross. Instead, it was Villa who always looked the most likely to score and they could have won by an even bigger margin. The visitors had a goal ruled out inside the first minute when John McGinn thumped home Jack Grealish’s cross. However, after a lengthy check by the video assistant referee, it was ruled out as Ross Barkley, who was in an offside position, was adjudged to have been in goalkeeper Leno’s way.

Egypt midfielder Trezeguet forced a good save from Leno early in the second half before the Arsenal keeper denied Grealish at the near post with a strong hand, while the Aston Villa captain also had an effort cleared off the line. Defeat leaves an inconsistent Arsenal 11th in the table while the win maintained Villa’s 100% away record so far this season. This defeat will prove particularly concerning for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, who appeared to have rectified issues with a defence that conceded goals far too easily last season. Going into the match they boasted the Premier League’s best defence, having conceded just seven goals in seven games, and it was the Gunners’ struggles at the other end of the pitch that Arteta would have been hoping to see an improvement in. But once again the hosts lacked creativity and managed just two shots on target all game, neither of which posed any real danger to their former goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

RIP Alex Trebek

Alex Trebek, the genial¬†“Jeopardy!”¬†host with all the answers and a reassuring presence in the TV game-show landscape for five decades, has died. He was 80 years old. “Jeopardy! is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends,” said¬†a statement shared on the show’s Twitter account¬†Sunday. “Thank you, Alex.”The cause of death was not immediately announced. Trebek revealed in March 2019¬†he had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, triggering an outpouring of support and well wishes at the time.

Over 37 seasons, Trebek hosted more than 8,200 episodes of “Jeopardy!,” the most by a presenter of any single TV game show, according to a statement from Sony Pictures. But despite the 35 years he spent on “Jeopardy!,” the syndicated quiz show where answers are presented in the form of a question, Trebek wasn’t exactly an overnight success. Born in Sudbury, Canada, he studied philosophy before becoming a journalist, working as a reporter for the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.

In 1966, while still in his mid-20s, he switched from journalism to hosting game shows, starting with a quiz show titled “Reach for the Top,” and followed a few years later by another, “Jackpot.” It wasn’t until 1984 that Trebek landed what turned out to be his big break, when producer-host Merv Griffin chose him to emcee a revival of “Jeopardy!,” which was paired with another hit game show, “Wheel of Fortune.” His longevity was reflected in a personal milestone, when he passed “The Price is Right’s” Bob Barker in the Guinness Book of Records as the person who had hosted the most game-show episodes.

Trebek had multiple guest appearances on other television shows, ranging from Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2008 and 2011 to the The Colbert Report series-finale. In August 1995 in a return to his broadcast-news roots, Trebek filled in for Charles Gibson for a week on Good Morning America. Trebek was a guest star in season 3 of The X-Files, playing one of two “Men in Black” (human agents charged with the supervision of extraterrestrial lifeforms on Earth, hiding their existence from other humans) opposite Jesse Ventura, in the episode “Jose Chung’s From Outer Space”, which first aired on April 12, 1996. Trebek also appeared in multiple television commercials.

Trebek married broadcaster Elaine Callei in 1974. The couple had no children and divorced in 1981, although Trebek adopted Callei’s daughter Nicky. In 1990, he married Jean Currivan, a real estate project manager from New York. They had two children, Matthew and Emily.

A New Frontier

I often dream science fiction situations. I am crazy like that and I love it. At times, just when I am about to go to sleep, I can almost feel myself in that situation, in that futuristic world and I can see myself commanding a starship. But this time, a few nights ago I had a different dream around the theme of space and spaceships and traveling to distant planets.

I dreamed that we had visits from a horde of large spaceships and the world panicked. Can 2020 get any worse; we are getting an alien invasion now? Turns out it isn’t an alien invasion. A few of the spaceships hail us and land in major cities. They are humans in these ships. And they are from the future, take a large undertaking of coming up with creating a way to travel back in time to 2020 from way out in the future. Like well over a couple of thousand years from now.

The reason they have come is that the feel that humans from this era can be saved from the pandemic. The pandemic becomes worse in 2021 and kills off huge chunks of our population. It takes decades for us to recover and this brings our scientific advancements down for the next hundred years. However our descendants eventually thrive and achieve the ability to easily travel the stars and leave the planet behind to settle elsewhere. Now they have developed easier methods to travel in space and then discovered the option to travel back in time. They meet with the governments of the world and say that they will take back as many people as they can and it will have to be in several trips.

They bring smaller ships that can connect to one another and can have a small number of people, each from a family, in it and they have to be secluded due to the pandemic. Once we reach the star system that they are in they will help us to settle in comfortable homes that they have setup for us on a couple of earth like planets.. And during the trip we will also see a slowing down of our aging to the point that even after several months in space and then years on the new planets, we would age only by a few weeks.

The future humans pick individuals who can represent a large group of related humans and one of them is me. After I get lessons on flying the spaceship and the controls for the working of the ship (food & drink dispensers, coolness and heat, air & water generators, it’s time to inform my family members including parents, uncles, aunts, cousins and their spouses. However some spouses relatives will be traveling in other units. The first unit handed to me consists of a couple of living quarters, hall, bridge and dining area. The remaining units will have the same minus the bridge as their units will all connect to mine. Dad, mom & surprisingly Shawny, who is alive in this dream, are with me.

In the next unit will be my sister and her husband and their 3 kids plus their dog. Another uncle and aunt and their children, my cousins with their spouses and kids respectively in another unit and so on & so forth. Since I am the representative, I will pilot all of them to the star system we are supposed to go to, just by following the future humans vessels. It is an exciting and scary time but we have to do it. As night falls, all the units are getting connected to my main unit one by one and off we head out into space.

Scream (1996)

Scream is a 1996 American slasher film[5] directed by Wes Craven and written by Kevin Williamson. The film stars David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Matthew Lillard, Rose McGowan, Skeet Ulrich, and Drew Barrymore. Released on December 20, it follows the character of Sidney Prescott (Campbell), a high school student in the fictional town of Woodsboro, California, who becomes the target of a mysterious killer in a Halloween costume known as Ghostface. The film combines black comedy and “whodunit” mystery with the violence of the slasher genre to satirize the clich√©s of the horror movie genre popularized in films such as Halloween (1978 ), Friday the 13th (1980) and Craven’s own A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). Scream was considered unique at the time of its release for featuring characters who were aware of real-world horror films and openly discussed the clich√©s that the film attempted to subvert.

High school student¬†Casey Becker¬†receives a flirty phone call from an¬†unknown person, during which they discuss horror movies. However, the caller turns sadistic and threatens her life. He reveals that her boyfriend¬†Steve Orth¬†is being held hostage and demands she answer questions about horror films. After Casey gets one wrong, Steve is murdered. When Casey refuses to answer more questions, she is murdered by a masked killer as her parents come home. Shortly after, they find her corpse hanging from a tree. The following day, the¬†news media¬†descend on the town and a police investigation begins. Meanwhile,¬†Sidney Prescott¬†struggles with the impending first anniversary of her mother,¬†Maureen’s, murder by her lover¬†Cotton Weary. While waiting at home for her friend¬†Tatum Riley, Sidney receives a threatening phone call. After she hangs up, she is attacked by the killer but evades them. Sidney’s boyfriend¬†Billy Loomis¬†arrives shortly after, but after he drops his cell phone, Sidney suspects him of making the call and flees. Billy is arrested and Sidney spends the night at Tatum’s house, where she receives another threatening call.

The next day, Billy is released and suspicion shifts to Sidney’s father¬†Neil Prescott, as the calls have been traced to his phone. School is suspended in the wake of the murders. After the students have left the school, the killer stabs¬†Principal Himbry¬†to death in his office. Tatum’s boyfriend¬†Stu Macher¬†throws a party to celebrate the school’s closure. The party is attended by Sidney, Tatum, their friend¬†Randy Meeks, and many other students. Reporter¬†Gale Weathers¬†attends uninvited to cover the situation, as she expects the killer to strike. Tatum’s brother¬†deputy sheriff¬†Dewey Riley¬†also looks out for the murderer at the party. The killer corners Tatum in the garage and murders her by crushing her neck with the garage door. Billy arrives to speak to Sidney privately and the two ultimately consummate their relationship, while Dewey and Gale investigate a nearby abandoned car. Many party attendees are drawn away after hearing news of Himbry’s death, leaving only Sidney, Billy, Randy, Stu, and Gale’s cameraman¬†Kenny. Gale and Dewey, having discovered that the car belongs to Neil Prescott, return to the house.

After having sex, Sidney and Billy are attacked by the killer, who ostensibly kills Billy. Sidney narrowly escapes from the house and seeks help from Kenny, but the killer slashes his throat; Sidney then flees again. Gale and Dewey believe Neil is the killer and has come to the party to continue his spree. Gale tries to escape in her van but drives off the road to avoid hitting Sidney and crashes. Meanwhile, Dewey is stabbed in the back while investigating in the house, and Sidney takes his gun. Stu and Randy appear and accuse each other of being the killer. Sidney retreats into the house, where she finds Billy wounded but still alive. She gives Billy the gun; he lets Randy into the house and shoots him. Billy reveals that he feigned his injuries and is actually the killer, with Stu as his accomplice.

Billy and Stu discuss their plan to kill Sidney and frame the murder spree on her father, whom they have taken hostage. The pair also reveal that they murdered her mother and framed Cotton for it, as she was having an affair with Billy’s father, which drove his mother away. Gale, who survived the crash, intervenes, and Sidney takes advantage of this to turn the tables on her attackers, knocking out Billy and dropping a television set on Stu’s head; Billy then awakens and attacks Sidney, but Gale shoots him. Randy is revealed to be wounded but alive, and remarks that the killer always resurfaces for one last scare. Sidney takes the gun and shoots Billy in the head, killing him for good. As the sun rises and police arrive, Dewey, badly injured, is taken away by ambulance and Gale makes an impromptu news report about the night’s events.

Made on a budget of around $15 million the movie made $173 million at the box office and has had a huge run at cable tv channels and dvd/bluray sales. It has also spawned 3 sequels and 4th one in production. It has also stood the test of time and I found it mostly enjoyable. I give it 7.5 outta 10!

Is Vinyl Windows The Best For You?

Vinyl Windows¬†are¬†windows¬†made out of a plastic material, PVC.¬†Vinyl windows¬†were first developed in the 1970s, to compete against costlier wood¬†windows. Either way, both¬†vinyl¬†and¬†wood windows¬†will give you the energy efficiency you and your home needs. Lets’ look at the pros and cons.

Vinyl Windows Pros and Cons

Do You Need A Dryer?

Doing laundry is a two-step process. While washing may take a little amount of your time, drying is process that takes hours and even days when the weather outside is humid or cold. Dryers ensure that clothes get dried almost instantly-along with saving your electricity and eventually money over a period of time. Nothing feels as great as wearing freshly washed clothes that are just out of the dryer. Before buying a dryer for home, make sure you have enough space to store it. With a number of features available in the market, choose one that is the best pick for your needs and also pick a good appliance repair service.

Many dryers consist of a rotating¬†drum¬†called a “tumbler” through which heated air is circulated to¬†evaporate¬†the moisture, while the tumbler is rotated to maintain air space between the articles. Using these machines may cause clothes to¬†shrink¬†or become less soft (due to loss of short soft fibers/lint). A simpler non-rotating machine called a “drying cabinet” may be used for delicate fabrics and other items not suitable for a tumble dryer.

Drying at a minimum of 60¬†¬įC (140¬†¬įF) heat for thirty minutes kills many parasites including¬†house dust mites, bedbugs and¬†scabies¬†mites and their eggs; a bit more than ten minutes kills ticks. Simply washing drowns dust mites and exposure to direct sunlight for three hours kills their eggs.

Modern Furniture

Let’s talking about modern furniture Toronto. Modern furniture¬†refers to¬†furniture¬†produced from the late 19th century through the present that is influenced by modernism. Post-World War II¬†ideals of cutting excess,¬†commodification, and practicality of materials in design heavily influenced the aesthetic of the furniture. It was a tremendous departure from all furniture design that had gone before it. There was an opposition to the¬†decorative arts, which included¬†Art Nouveau,¬†Neoclassical, and¬†Victorian¬†styles. Dark or gilded carved wood and richly patterned fabrics gave way to the glittering simplicity and geometry of polished metal.

The forms of furniture evolved from visually heavy to visually light. This shift from decorative to minimalist principles of design can be attributed to the introduction of new technology, changes in philosophy, and the influences of the principles of architecture. Modern furniture is usually made from natural materials. These include wood, linen, and leather. Some pieces, such as chairs, will also use polished metal and plastic. The trend toward open space continues with the furniture, which is typically raised.

Arsenal 4 Molde 1

Arsenal, with two games to spare, could secure a place in the last 32 of the competition with victory in the return fixture in Norway on 26 November. Arteta has now seen his side win three successive games in all competitions since they were undone by Leicester’s counter-attack last month. Despite falling behind, Arsenal were able to brush aside their opponents without the need to bring on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette or Thomas Partey. Arteta was all smiles at the end, fist-bumping Willock on the pitch after the full-time whistle, the 21-year-old pushing his claims for a first Premier League start of the season with a performance full of hunger and desire.

The Gunners had fallen behind after failing to close down Ellingsen, whose excellent strike had Molde dreaming of one of the greatest results in their history. It was the wake-up call the hosts needed, Arteta’s side playing with a higher intensity after equalising. Arsenal’s future looks in good hands, Nketiah also impressing with his speed and work-rate while substitute Saka played a highly-intelligent pass to pick out Pepe for his goal. Mikel Arteta called for the introduction of the video assistant referee in Europa League group games despite Arsenal running out comfortable winners against Molde.

The Gunners reached the halfway point of Group B with a 100% winning record courtesy of a solid victory. But it could have been more as Eddie Nketiah had what looked like a legal goal ruled out for offside after Nicolas Pepe’s pass, with Molde leading 1-0. Unlike the Champions League, VAR is not being used in the group stages of the Europa League.
