A Temple Of Rainbow

What song from your childhood reminds you a lot about those years? One of them for me is Rainbow’s Temple Of The King. For me it is Ronnie & Ritchie’s best song that they have performed on and my introduction to each of them. I think it was on a compilation album on cassette that I first heard of the band and then soon proceeded to get my own copy of a Rainbow best off. This was my favourite song of Rainbow and still remains so.

Off the band’s 1975 debut album Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow, it is the quintessential Rainbow song, boasting Ronnie James Dio’s vocals and Ritchie’s epic and instantly recognizable riff and the cream on the top is that haunting guitar solo. We also have Micky Lee Soule on piano, mellotron, clavinet, organ, Craig Gruber on bass & the late awesome Gary Driscoll on drums. Although the song & album was released in 1975, I first heard it as a 11 year old in the summer of 1988. It has stayed with me since then.

Funnily enough the solo actually reminds of some Indian movie music that I must have seen in the early 80s. Which is odd but still the song retains a high position is my list of favourite songs.

Rum & Pepsi

So usually I am a vodka guy when it comes to harder liquor – because vodka is delicious – and enjoy drinking a few but rum and Coke or Pepsi is also delicious. While I usually drink Old Monk which is an Indian rum, I have had more Bacardi White rum more often in the last 10 years.

Light rums, also referred to as “silver” or “white” rums, in general, have very little flavor aside from a general sweetness. Light rums are sometimes filtered after aging to remove any colour. The majority of light rums come from Puerto Rico. Their milder flavors make them popular for use in mixed drinks, as opposed to drinking them straight. Light rums are included in some of the most popular cocktails including the Mojito and the Daiquiri.

While I love cocktails, I find that mostly I just like the rum with Coke or Pepsi with a few chunks of ice. That in itself is delicious enough for me. Today I had some Bacardi white, which I haven’t had in over a year, while I ate some sausages for starters and a pizza for lunch in a bar.
