Euro2020 Begins

Finally we get the tournament started. TheĀ 2020 UEFA European Football Championship, or simply Euro 2020, is starting off tonight with the first game to be played between Turkey & Italy. We only have one game being played tonight. The tournament, to be held in 11 cities in 11 UEFA countries, was originally scheduled from 12 June to 12 July 2020. The tournament was postponed due to theĀ COVID-19 pandemic in EuropeĀ and rescheduled for 11 June to 11 July 2021. The tournament retains the name “UEFA Euro 2020”.

UEFA PresidentĀ Michel Platini said in 2012 that the tournament was to be hosted in several nations as a “romantic” one-off event to celebrate the 60th “birthday” of the European Championship competition. The 11 venues for Euro 2020 are as follows:

  • Olympic Stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan
  • Parken Stadium in Copenhagen, Denmark
  • Wembley Stadium in London, England
  • Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany
  • PuskĆ”s ArĆ©na in Budapest, Hungary
  • Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Italy
  • Amsterdam Arena in Amsterdam, Netherlands
  • Arena Na?ional in Bucharest, Romania
  • Krestovsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg, Russia
  • Hampden Park in Glasgow, Scotland
  • La Cartuja in Seville, Spain

I think we can use this big scale tournament can act as a distraction from all the issues with the pandemic and we can celebrate and have some fun.

Bands & Artists I Was Into As a Child

I would like to specify that these are bands & artists that I was into as a kid until the age of 10 or almost 11. I usually listened to all music that my older sister listened to at that time. She played a bunch of music for me and we also watched music videos and some specials on tv & VHS. So from 1976, which is when I was born to 1986. I turned 10 in 1986 but I really came into my own music tastes by the time I was 11, although I started to branch out by the age of 10.

  • ABBA
  • Boney M
  • Michael Jackson
  • Jackson 5
  • Duran Duran

A Day For Donuts

So I missed out on National Donut Day (or is that the international donut day). Anyways, it was in the month of June, so that’s not too late. Many restaurants, including Dunkin’ Donuts and Krispy Kreme, are marking the annual made-up food holiday with fried freebies and other deals. Unfortunately we don’t get either franchise here where I live.

The day of the pastry was established in 1938 to honor the Salvation Army Donut Lassies, women who served the treats to soldiers during World War I. It’s traditionally celebrated on the first Friday of June. Krispy KremeĀ will give all customersĀ a free doughnut Friday but vaccinated customers can get two freebiesĀ when they present proof that they received aĀ COVID-19Ā vaccine.

Now I have had donuts from Dunkin & Krispy Kreme once in my life. I had a Krispy Kreme at the Chennai airport and Dunkin in New Delhi. I wish these franchises would open up outlets in Kochi some day soon. I really liked the Boston Creme donut from Dunkin and I wish I could have some here. Tim Hortons – you too please open up stores in India and my city soon.
