I am an atheist. I do not believe in any supernatural deities. I believe in Science, not the death cult superstitions of bronze age nomadic tribes in the Middle East.
I believe in Logic and Reason, and not in vengeful gods that demand unthinking worship. My “Bible” is the ‘CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics’ and ‘Mark’s Standard Handbook for Mechanical Engineers’. My “Concordance” is ‘The Pocket Ref, 3rd Edition’.
The symbol of my “faith” is not an ancient torture device, it’s a slide rule. The simple three part device that helped build the Brooklyn Bridge, Hoover Dam and the Empire State Building, as well as sending humans to the Moon and returning them to Earth. Algebra and Calculus are my “liturgy”, and Physics is the celebration of all that exists, from the smallest subatomic particle yet to be discovered, to the Universe as a whole.
The “Saints” of my faith are legion. Galileo and Einstein, Sagan and Asimov, Eratosthenes and Fermi, Hawking and Feynman, Dawkins and Darwin, Jefferson and Franklin and Paine, and countless others who have sought and still seek to expand the knowledge of how the Universe works, for the betterment of all, to free the minds of humanity from the shackles of superstition and ignorance, and, finally & simply, “To Know.”

And yet, despite my lack of fawning obeisance to the judeo/christian/islamic deity, I do not rape nor rob nor murder my fellow man or woman. I do not defraud them nor seek to enslave their bodies or their minds. I do not turn my face from them if their beliefs differ from mine, nor do I condemn them if they choose to love someone of the same sex or of a different “race”.
My friends include the gay and the straight, the atheist and the deeply faithful, Caucasian, African and Asian. I help the less fortunate in this world as best I can, and do not seek to convert them to my way of thought by my actions. I help merely to ease their suffering.
I choose to stand in the Light of Knowledge and Reason. I oppose the Darkness that is ignorance and superstition.
And I KNOW that, in the end, it IS Knowledge and Reason that will triumph over ignorance and superstition, and triumph over those who would use ignorance and superstition for their own evil and ego-driven ends.

Ariane Sherine is a 29 year old British comedy writer & journalist. She is also an Atheist.
In June 2008, Ariane saw a red London bus featuring a Bible quote and the URL of a website. When she visited the website, it told her non-Christians would burn in hell for all eternity. Ariane then wrote an article for The Guardian’s Comment Is Free site, “Atheists – Gimme Five”, At the end of her article, keen to suggest a solution, she proposed: [if all atheists reading this] contribute £5, it’s possible that we can fund a much-needed atheist London bus ad with the slogan: “There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and [enjoy] your life.”
Thus was born the Atheist Bus Campaign! You see the link provided in the header of this blog? Ok, so many Atheists responded and in January of this year the buses with the ads were running around in London. By now, it has spread to cities Germany, Canada, Finland, Holland, Switzerland, Croatia, Spain, Italy & the US.
I want to ride that bus. Only thing is I would change the slogan to “There is no god. Ok, now get a life!”

I wonder how the oath taking happens in legal courts. I mean, cause I’ve never actually been to court and seen it first hand. Whatever I have seen is in movies or tv. Weather in Western movies or Indian, it always seems the same – before you testify in a trial, a clerk of the court brings you the bible and asks “Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?” or something along the same lines.
So the person wouldn’t have planned on telling the truth but just because he does swear on the bible or some holy book, he or she will do so! “Oh dear, now I can’t lie. I’ve sworn on the bible! Dammit!” Or the koran or the torah or the gita! And that’s more than enough until the person testifying is proven to be lying while on oath.
What happens when an Atheist is called to testify? Like me! “I swear to tell the truth… On what book will we swear? The Da Vinci Code? The Encyclopedia Britiannica? Science or Math text books? Playboy? We wouldn’t need any. But I would love to see a clerk bringing the bible or some holy book to a testifying atheist and the guy or gal say loudly “No thanks, I’m an Atheist!” (Gasps from the crowd)

While watching the episodes of Star Trek : TNG on tv, I used to be struck by the predominant characteristic theme of atheism. In the world of Star Trek there is no need for money, materialistic possession, hunger, famine, diseases are almost non existent (other than the ones that the crew encounter on their trips) and instead there is a brotherhood of humans. And there is no god for humans! If you want to live a peaceful life bettering yourself, its possible. But from time to time, a human has been mistaken for a god.
Like in this case, Jean-Luc Picard is thought to be a God by a less advanced race. Saying he has no desire to send them back into the “Dark Ages,” Picard is determined to repair the cultural damage as much as possible while not further violating the Prime Directive. It finally takes the witnessing of the death of a human at sickbay for them to realize Picard is just as mortal as they are and that his godlike powers are nothing more than a technological advancement.

My company’s client are going through a huge changeover today, something that means big bucks and lots of opportunities. I also hope that this means much better quality standards in the way that they run their business. That is needed a lot.
We are planning a huge event at the office premises and once again I have been roped in as a volunteer. Or better put, I was ‘volunteered’ by a senior manager. I guess there is no way for me to weasle my way outta this. But it can be fun, provided things happen properly.
One of my colleagues sent some of us in an email an old joke about an atheist professor who gets humiliated by one of his students who is a believer. The lines in it are lame; you can’t see the professor’s brain but it’s supposed to be there, so therefore there is a god. Ha ha ho ho, very funny! So I sent him back some anti-Christianity emails and stuff that has been done in the name of religion & god!
He has promised never to send me such bullshit again! 
Christian fundamentalists would have you think that Norwegian Black Metal, which denounces all things about Christ and is anti-Christianity at it’s core, is evil & should be stopped at all costs. Black Metallists in Norway & other Scandinavian countries started due to a deep hatred of the history of how Christian crusaders brutally murdered thousands of Vikings in those countries and forcefully converted the remaining In May, 2007 an article by the BBC, The Global Peace Index, compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit, looked at 24 factors to determine how peaceful each country was. Norway is rated as the ‘most peaceful country’ in the world. In 2005, a survey conducted by Gallup International in sixty-five countries indicated that Norway was the least religious country in Western Europe, with 36% counting themselves as being religious, 9% as being atheists, and 46% neither.
