Where Did The Years Go?

In a couple of days I turn 32.

32! I can’t believe it. Where did all these years go? How did I get here? I was told by a couple of people that I looked 27 or 28. I think I look older but I feel younger. Sometimes I feel as if I was robbed of a few years and I want them back. The years between 23-26 are a blur to me now.

I don’t think I have achieved much in my life or even anything good. I’m trying hard to rectify that. It’s a Life Wasted if you ask me. I’ve not got anything worthwhile to show for these 32 years. Can I rewind and a get a few years back please? No, its silly to even think that.

Now I can go by the line said in the movie The Snow Walker, where the Inuit girl asks Barry Pepper his age and if he was married and he says 32 and no, she replies : 32 and no wife!!

Friends Season 5

The shock & embarrasement of having the groom say another girl’s name at the wedding furiates Emily and she won’t talk to Ross. He tried to patch things up but fails. Chandler & Monica start laying the ground rules of their relationship and try to hid everything from the other 4. Chandler even has to pretend that he picked up a new ‘kissing his friends habit’ and kiss both Rachel & Pheobe, since they saw him kissing Monica. Pheobe’s water breaks just as they were headed out for a small trip and she gives birth to the triplets. Chandler (the baby) is a girl and Joey gets sick with kidney stones. Then Emily agrees to come to New York – if Ross promises to stop being friends with Rachel. Although Ross is torn and wants his marriage to work, he finally can’t agree to Emily’s demands, so their relationshio ends. Ross temporarily moves in with Joey & Chandler but later gets Ugly Naked Guy’s apartment as he (UNG) is moving out.

Chandler gets upset when Monica reveals her worst Thanksgiving story – in which Chandler loses a bit of his toe when Monica drops a knife. Ross has to take pills & counselling due to an anger problem. Everyone finds out about Chandler & Monica eventually and the two develop their relationship further. Joey meanwhile starts using a ‘man’s bag’ and dates a girl who punches him. Rachel starts working at Ralph Lauren but feels like she has to take up smoking as her boss & colleague smoke while they discuss work topics. Ross tries to flirt with a cute pizza delivery girl but fails miserably until Rachel feels bad and helps him out.

Ross, Joey & Chandler go on a drive along with Pheobe’s new boyfriend, who is a cop, on a patrol. Pheobe ends up breaking it off with the cop as he shoots a bird. Joey gets a part in a movie but as he reached Las Vegas for the shooting, it gets cancelled and he has to work in a casino for a while. The rest go to meet him there but – Monica & Chandler contemplate marriage but change their minds when they see a drunk Ross & Rachel coming out of the chapel, just married!!

Notes For 29th July

I am not happy at all regarding work & salary problems. But I am not getting any good offers from the ones that I have applied to.
I just got an email today, inviting applications for working on cruise ships. This looks very promising & interesting and the pay is amazing! I would love to get a job with them.
One of the biggest assholes is in our office for the next few days. He is such a dickhead!
I’m going to miss the really sweet & innocent girl who came to take a training for some of the executives in my office for 18 days. She has been a joy to be around and she has made many friends here. And she has learned so much Malayalam in such a short time.
No bomb explosions in Kerala so far and that is good news. It seems that it may have been a hoax but police are still on a vigil.

What Is Your Greatest Fear?

I have this fear that I will not have be able to get out my current situation. That I will always be just a lonely, fat guy. Who stays alone in his room for most of the time, clicking away in search of something to keep his mind occupied and to while away the time, drinking cups after cups of black coffee. And the greatest fear is of living all alone, without a woman to keep me company, growing old alone and waking up one morning and suddenly realizing that I am old, retired, haven’t achieved anything, living in a small place, with nothing to look forward to but advancing age & a slow death.

The Story Of The Bombs In India So Far

The last couple of days have been tense for Indians, especially those of us in the Southern part of India & the western state of Gujarat. First on Friday afternoon, I was at the office working, when I heard that there was an explosion in the city of Bangalore, Karnataka. Some turned on the tv that sits in our reception area, others tuned to their radios and some like me clicked online to find out if there was something about it. I was the first to find a webpage that reported on the incident, some guy named Sachin Uppal had seen the blast from a distance. He switched on his computer, logged into his blogger account download the island online and blogged about it immediately, snatching bits of news from his friends & neighbours. Turns out it was more than one – 6 blasts occurred in various parts of the city. The areas of Nayandahalli, Madivala, Adugodi, Mysore road, Mallya Hospital & Langford Road were the ones that were hit. A 6th & 7th explosion would follow.

My company has 3 big offices in Bangalore and I have a few friends who work in that city. We immediately tried to get in touch with them to see if they were alright. the phone lines were all blocked and the smses weren’t getting delivered. I was able to contact my friend Vinitha online – she was at home and on gtalk, having taken a leave from work. Another friend was in Cochin, having taken leave to come and visit her family.

Saturday, while Banglore began their slow process of recovering from the shock, the Gujarat serial Bomb blasts have rocked industrious Ahmedabad city of Gujarat in India. Till now 6 bomb blasts have been reported. The effected areas are Maninagar Chowk, Raipur, Bapunagar, Isanpur, Narol, Naroda, Juhapura. The 6 blasts later became 16, with 10 dead an over a 100 injured. An Islamic terrorist organization calling themselves the ‘Indian Mujahidden’ have claimed sole responsibility for the bomb blasts. All major cities were now told be be on alert as they could be next. And today in Surat (Gujarat) two cars with batteries & wires in the back seat were found abandoned.

This afternoon, an internet call was made to the number of a TV9 reporter, claiming to be from Pakistan and identifying him to be part of the Indian Mujahideen, said that Kerala was the next target and that it would happen at 7 in the evening. This information was soon replayed to all channels with the major cities of Cochin & Trivandrum on high alert. All cinema theatres have cancelled their evening shows and most stores & shopping malls have shut down. Police have surrounded most of the public areas and are combing through any areas that look like they could be harbouring detonating devices. Police dogs & bomb squads are everywhere. The police commissioner has asked for calm and for all citizens to be on the look out for anything suspicious.

As I type this, its a few minutes past 8 pm and so far nothing has happened in Cochin. That doesn’t mean to say that it won’t. This just brings to believe that Muslim fundamentalists are out to destroy the rest of the world and that religion and god will be the end of us. Hope to see a new day. Peace.

7 Minutes To 7

In a few minutes we will get to know if the threats are real or just a hoax to scare the minds of the common people. As I type this, police squads have surrounded the more populated areas and are combing for any devices, bags or packages that look suspicious. All hospitals, theatres, cinema halls, railways stations, airports & other public places are being searched with metal detectors and police dogs are being led to these areas to sniff out every nook & corner of the buildings.

And I as type this sentence, it is one minute to 7 pm.

Bomb The Country To Oblivion

Just a day after the multiple bomb blasts in Bangalore, the western city of Ahmedabad has been rocked by a series of explosions, killing atleast 29 and injuring over 100 people.
A little-known Islamist group calling itself the “Indian Mujahedeen” has reportedly claimed responsibility. More than 16 blasts hit residential areas, hospitals, crowded markets, a train station and a bus. Two of the 16 bombs targeted emergency hospitals trying to deal with the victims, many of them hit by flying nuts, bolts and ball bearings packed into the bombs. Officials say the bombs were detonated with timer devices and all exploded within the space of 36 minutes.

Many of the bigger cities across the country, including mine, have been put on a state of alert.

Cliffs Of Dover

Its so windy & cold that I haven’t kept the fan on…whereas a few weeks ago I was using a ceiling fan & a pedestal fan to keep me from sweating as I slept! How do you chase away the blues of a day that was cloudy & rainy & cold from the moment you woke up? Watching & listen to a song like Cliffs Of Dover by Eric Johnson and be overwhelmed by the rich violin like tone that the Austin Texas musician manages to coax out of his guitar. Recorded live somewhere around 1990/91 ish!

Throw It Up Against The Wall

Lisa Brokop is one of my favourite country singer. I just love her down-to-earth appeal that ebbs from her voice and she’s just a lovely lady. Lisa is also one of just two international celebs whose autographs I have – StormRider, a guy who I used to communicate often via email, had gone to the opening of a small music & arts hall in Surrey, BC, Canada, where Lisa was also one of the featured performers. He managed to get an signed photo from her and told her that I was a big fan of hers in India. It’s still with me in a box that contains some of my stuff Love you Lisa Brokop!

ScribeFire Blog Editor

My last entry and this one have been drafted using ScribeFire Blog Editor 2.2.10 marley me movie . ScribeFire is a Firefox plugin & is a full-featured blog editor that integrates with your browser and lets you easily post to your blog. It’s a cinch to install and it will be easy to drag & drop text from any website that you are currently browsing. You can take notes, upload images, and post to multiple blogs.

I have tried a couple of blog editors before but none met this kind of a satisfaction. It’s pretty easy to use and once you start, you will probably keep using it. Just by pressing ‘F8′ you get the editor opened and you can start posting. Excellent tool for Firefox, I give it a 5 out of 5.

Dark Are The Rain Clouds

These are the days when I really wish that I had a small digital camera. The clouds over Kalamassery this morning, while I made my way over to the office, were dark & ominous, much like it would have been in a epic Hollywood movie before a battle or a catastrophe. It looked like the entire area would be plunged into darkness and flooded by the impending rain that I was so sure would fall within the next 10 minutes or less. However it never lived up to the promise, rather just rained intermittently throughout the day.

It’s become quite cold and damp and people are falling ill all over the state. Jaundice and other diseases are spreading throughout and I hope that it dies out soon. Our office has already had 4 people getting ill.

Well, on my way back home it did rain and when it started I thought that it was going to go on for the entire night. But lo! and behold, it has stopped a mere 15 minutes later.

The Thrikkakara Monologues

While I was living in Thrikkakara I hated it for a long time. It was so far away from the places that I wanted to be near to. It was away from the city. So few buses plying through the route. You had to wait for one for ages and it was usually very crowded. Hardly any shops or stores near by. It could be so dull living there. No movie theaters near by, except for one with a questionable reputation and patronage. No bars close by, except one that I wouldn’t send my worst enemy to. No other places of interest within the town (if you can call it a town) borders. Nothing to do there!

And yet I do miss the place. I lived there in that house for 19 years, damn it! 19 years is a huge chunk of my Earthly existence. I miss the peaceful quiteness of the place, all the trees and greenery and the open spaces. Ofcourse I hated it that there was a big temple a stone’s throw away! I should know; I threw many stones at the temple (snicker, lol)! But I miss my old home, my house. I miss the clean(er) area. I do miss the fact that it was much cooler there. I think all those trees had something to do with it. Sigh! You can’t have it all, can you?
