Former Gunner Jeremie Aliadiere delivered another blow to Arsene Wenger’s flickering Premier League title hopes by denying Arsenal three precious points in a 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium. Stewart Downing was denied a second-half winner by a fine save from Manuel Almunia but the Gunners also had their chances through Robin van Persie and substitute Nicklas Bendtner. Arsenal looked lightweight in striking power, another showcase of the fact that Wenger needs to go out and spend.
Before the match against Boro, the transfer rumours started floating about that Wenger may allow both William Gallas & Bendtner to leave the club next month and freshen up his squad during the transfer window. Juventus has shown an interest in Gallas, who lost his captaincy last month when he critized his teammates publicly. AC Milan and Paris St. Germain have also enquired about the French international defender but Juve seems to be the favourite.
Bendtner has failed to impress at Arsenal and also could be on his way out, although it is not certain as to where. Wenger’s target for strengthening his squad seems to be Liverpool’s midfield Xabi Alonso as well as Salmon Kalou from Chelsea. In latest news winger Ryan Babel has expressed a desire to sent on loan to Ajax as he is not happy without a confirmed starting place and thinks he can sharpen his skills in Ajax. Babel could fit in well within the Arsenel squad and should be a target for Wenger.
