A Salute To Balut

That is a balut egg. A balut is a fertilized duck embryo that is boiled and eaten in the shell. Popularly believed to be an aphrodisiac and considered a high-protein, hearty snack, balut are mostly sold by street vendors in the regions where they are available. It is commonly sold as streetfood in the Philippines. They are common, everyday food in countries in Southeast Asia, such as Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. They are often served with beer.

I remember watching a program on freakiest food on AXN. While this certainly is one of the weirdest looking and yuckiest ever food, I would like to try some. Egg  = good, duck = good!

  1. That is gross, Roshan. I truly couldn’t eat it. The only thing worse would be sheep’s testicles. Ewwwwww.

  2. It is tempting to me. I’ve also wanted to try Prairie Oysters which are bull testicles batter fried! But that might be too graphic an image for me.

  3. NO NO NO!!!! That would be revolting.. so is the thought of eating testicles of any animal.. Actually come to think of it there a lot of revolting things eaten around the world!

BTW I am still getting very irritated by your Captcha.. I’m having to refresh it about 6-8 times before I can find one I can just about make out Sorry Roshy Rosh..

  4. Food is food. I keep telling my mom “There are people in the world who would hate some of the local stuff we have regularly.” I would like to try some balut and grasshopper fries.
Sorry about the captcha. I can’t find anything that is better; almost all of them are the same style.
