Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Belgian stopper Thomas Vermaelen on Friday evening. The deal is reported to be around 10 million pounds. The 23-year-old defender joins from Ajax Amsterdam on a long-term contract and has plenty of experience having played 143 matches for the Dutch team.
Vermaelen is experienced both at club and international level despite his young age, and he has made 21 appearances for Belgium already. After completing the move this afternoon he revealed that he is looking forward to playing in Europe with his new club.
Good move for the defence, I think, but Wenger – we now need to see attackers.
