Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy & their 7 year old son Daniel were all found dead in their home in Atlanta, Georgia. Benoit had canceled a pay-per-view appearance at “Vengeance” in Houston because of “personal reasons” a day before, where he was to have competed in the challenge for the EWC World Championship title. Friends of Benoit were concerned after they received some strange text messages from him and they informed WWE officials, who in turn called the cops in Atlanta. On the police reaching his house, they found Benoit’s body in the weight room. His wife & son’s dead bodies were also found in other rooms. The police are treating this as a double murder-suicide case and they said that at this moment they aren’t pursuing any other suspects. They will know more when the autopsy report gets published. Investigators believe Benoit, (pronounced ben-WAH) killed his wife and son over the weekend and then himself sometime Monday. The bodies were found Monday afternoon in three different rooms of the house on Green Meadow Lane, in a subdivision off a gravel road about two miles from the Whitewater Country Club. The District Attorney said that there was no gun involved but declined to state as to how they died.
How did this happen? Why Chris, Why? is the question on each & ever Chris Benoit fan. He seemed to have it all and there are many people out there who have theories about what actually happened. Things like, he snapped, his wife cheated on him and he killed her (but then why kill his son), she killed the two of them, etc etc. I can’t believe it and it won’t sink in for a long time. My current favourite wrestler and second fav of all time is dead and being accused of horrendous crimes.
Song for the day – “Whatever (the Chris Benoit theme)” – OUR LADY PEACE
Chris Benoit was found dead in his house along with his wife & son! Long live the memory of the rabid wolverine.
The Night Of Champions is upon us : WWE’s pay-per-view event, Vengence will take place later today, at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The reason it is billed as the Night Of Champions, is because all the titles in the WWE are on the line tonight. This includes :
- World Heavyweight Championship: Edge (c) vs. Batista
- If Batista loses, he will not get another chance at the title while Edge remains champion.
- WWE Championship: John Cena (c) vs. Mick Foley vs. Bobby Lashley vs. Randy Orton vs. King Booker (w/Queen Sharmell)
- WWE United States Championship: Montel Vontavious Porter (c) vs. Ric Flair
- WWE Cruiserweight Championship: Chavo Guerrero (c) vs. Jimmy Wang Yang
- World Tag Team Championship: Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch (c) vs. The Hardys (Matt and Jeff)
- WWE Women’s Championship: Melina (c) vs. Candice Michelle
- WWE Intercontinental Championship: Santino Marella (c) vs. Umaga
- ECW World Championship: Chris Benoit vs. CM Punk
- WWE Tag Team Championship: Deuce ‘N Domino (w/Cherry) (c) vs. TBA
The WWE Tag Team Champions Deuce ‘n Domino do not have an opponent at this time but it will be announced only just before the match is to start! And although the promotional poster for Vengence shows Lashley holding the ECW belt, he had to forfeit the title a few days ago, on account of being drafted to RAW!Â
This Sunday it will be Chris Benoit vs C M Punk, facing off against each other for the vacant ECW World Heavyweight Championship title. The title was left vacant after the recent draft, which saw Bobby Lashley, having to vacate his title belt on being drafted to WWE Raw. Although he had just won the title back from Mr.McMahon 8 days prior, Lashley had to forfeit his championship since a wrestler cannot carry the title when he moves from one roster to another. So, we have a veteran wrestler & former WWE Champion in Benoit (he won it on RAW) squaring off against a younger up & comer in Punk. Both wrestlers have the utmost respect for each other but each will want the title for himself.
Having just lead his Anaheim Ducks to Stanley Cup glory, the captain is thinking of hanging up his skates for good. Scott Niedermayer, who will turn 34 before the 2007-08 season begins, is thinking about retiring early from the sport while at the top. Despite him having premature grey in his beard during the playoffs, defenceman Niedermayer was the driving force behind his team and was chosen as the recipient of The Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP and by all accounts could play for another 5 to 6 years. However his former partner in defence, Scott Stevens, says that Niedermayer wasn’t planning on playing for that long. Scott is the only player in hockey history to have won the 6 championships any Canadian-born player cares about: Stanley Cup, Memorial Cup, world junior gold, men’s world gold, Olympic gold, and a World Cup of Hockey title. He has also captured a Conn Smythe Trophy and Norris Trophy to boot. And he also played alongside his brother Rob in winning the Stanley Cup (the fourth for Scott and first for Rob). It would be a double blow for the Ducks if he retires as forward Teemu Selanne is also contemplating retiring and heading home for Finland.
I was saddened to hear about the death of Sherri Martel. Most longtime wrestling fans would know her as Scary Sherri or Sensational Sherri. Her husband of 10 years confirmed her death and at this time the cause is not known yet. She was 49 and at her mother’s residence in Birmingham, Alabama at the time. This was on the 15th of June.
Sherri was a former WWF/WWE Women’s Champion and is inducted into the WWE Wrestling Hall Of Fame. She was also a valet & manager for several superstars like Ted Dibiase, Shawn Michaels & Randy ‘Macho Man’ Savage. She will be sorely missed.
I need to relax on my day off, be it Sunday or any other day of the week. I don’t care about the particular day but relax i must. And ‘relax’ can mean either going out to enjoy myself and have a few drinks or something or staying at home all day and watching a movie or two and listening to some cool tunes, while browsing the net at my leisure, reading a book and sleeping a bit during the afternoons.
Having fallen asleep only by 4 am, despite reaching home by 1:45 am, I was drowsy and tired as I woke up at 9 am this morning and went back to sleep for another solid hour without much trouble. I only wanted coffee (the stronger the better) and read the paper while having some. I watched two episodes of Star Trek : Voyager while putting my feet up on the bed and relaxed. By 1 pm I was in the shower and feeling hungry and thirsty, I headed out to Oberoi for some drinks and some grub. I stayed there for over two hours and enjoyed the afternoon. However during the last 30 mins or so, I was pissed off at the two assholes at the next table who were smoking cigarettes and blowing that second-hand stuff in my direction. A couple of coughs and a few glares made them put out their offending cigarettes and I could breathe a little better.

Ok, this guy pulls out all the shocks as far as the WWE is concerned. We in India get to see the WWE shows a couple of weeks late, so I got this from their official website. On May 7th, Edge, having goaded Mr.Kennedy to put his Money In The Bank title oppurtunity on the line in a match on RAW, beat the cocky & brash American. Now, Edge for the second time had the briefcase with him, with a contract to get a title shot at either of the three world titles on WWE. Everyone would have expected him to wait for his chance against WWE Champion John Cena. Edge has held the WWE Championship belt on two occasions, only to lose it to Cena. But the very next day, May 8th, Edge surprised and shocked the wrestling world. On Smackdown, World Heavyweight Champion The Undertaker had just beaten Batista in a defense of his title and was brutalised and bloodied. Edge was watching & waiting and saw his chance. He immediately cashed in on his Money in the bank title shot oppurtunity and entered the ring, speared the barely able to stand Undertaker and pinned him! 1 2 3! We have a new World Heavyweight Champion.
WWE pay-per-view event Backlash will feature a four way title defence for the WWE championship featuring two pairs of fighting tag team partners. Champion & rap scum John Cena has had issues with his tag team partner Shawn Michaels, also known as HBK (Homo Butt Kisser). They will enter the ring @ Backlash and face off for Cena’s belt and joining them will be two more former champions, Randy Orton & Edge. Now, I can’t stand “bad rapper cum worse wrestler cum worst actor” Cena or Michaels. I won’t be too bummed out if Orton wins it but I am cheering for Edge, who is my second fav current Wrestler after Chris Benoit.
Edge has had two stints at being the champ, as short as they were, and each time it was tainted with having lost to Cena. So at Backlash, I hope he wins it for the third time and we will never have to suffer through Cena’s bad acting & rapping on screen! Ok that is to much to hope for, but atleast I hope he never becomes champ again. Come on guys!
What indeed is so good about this day? If your are Christian and you believe in Christ, shouldn’t this day be named more appropriately? Good Friday…he died on the cross on this day didn’t he?
I think Malayalee Christians have it right – they call this day “Dhukha Velliyazhcha” (Sad or Mournful Friday) . Yuk, yuk, snicker
The Undertaker broke his own record at Wrestlemania by beating reigning champion Batista and winning @ the annual event for the 15th year in a row. No one comes close enough to that record.
This is the first World Heavyweight Championship for the Undertaker, his previous title wins all coming in the WWE Championship title. Batista, has been trying tactics to turn the confrontation in his favour ever since he found out that the dead man would be gunning after his title, as the winner of the Royal Rumble can chose which world title he wants to challenge for at Wrestlemania. The Undertaker decided that he would go after Batista and the two have had some seriously hostile meetings as the days passed. So now, the Undertaker reigns again.
Fine, the Royal Rumble actually got over more than a few days ago (january 28th to be exact) but I only got to watch it today. I also knew who the winner was, thanks to Wikipedia and WWE.com. But I didn’t want to comment on it until I had seen it and I did watch most of it today. This year’s Rumble was held in the city of San Antonio, Texas – home of that asshole Shawn Michaels. I was afraid that they were going to let him win the event but he only made it to the last two. This is the second time that it was held in San Antonio. This marked the first time the new ECW brand would participate in the Royal Rumble match. The winner could have a title shot at WrestleMania for the ECW World Championship as an alternative to the WWE Championship or the World Heavyweight Championship. And this year it was won by the legend The Undertaker who came in last at number 30 and eliminated Michaels, by dodging a sweet chin music and throwing him over the ropes to win the entire event and go on to Wrestlmania 23 as the challenger to Batista. At WrestleMania it will be Undertaker’s Streak of 14-0 versus Batista and his World Heavyweight Championship. Before that, the two team up in a tag team match versus Shawn Michaels & John Cena. Batista has said that he is in no way intimidated and looks forward to the “biggest match of my career”. Watch it on April 1st.
