What’s the household task you most dislike doing? Why do you think that is — is it the task itself, or something more?
I think most people are going to say that they hate doing the dishes the most out of all the household chores. Atleast those of us who do not own a dishwasher in our homes. I don’t and yeah, I hate washing dishes even though I know that they are important and I am also very particular about doing the dishes. Like I wash them very thoroughly and I have this pet peeve of not using a plate that has just been used by someone else – no matter who – until a few hours have passed by, even if I have washed it 2 or 3 times with that washing stuff.
Oddly enough I now enjoy washing clothes in the washing machine. Doing laundry is never fun but I enjoy the fact that I do not have to wash them by hand and remember the times when I lived, temporarily, in a rented place without a washing machine I enjoy the process of dumping in the laundry, adding the washing powder and the spin cycle. Hey, that can also be a little fun. Hang the clothes out on the clothes line (we don’t have a dryer) and you’re done in a few hours. Even changing my bed sheets, which I hated to do since I always mess up putting the new sheets on my bed, is not a chore anymore.
But I think the worst is cleaning and dusting! There is just no way around it. It sucks and it blows – even without a vacuum cleaner. And where I live I get a lot of dust into the apartment, even on the 7th floor. My computer desk and it’s sections are dusty as heck in just 3-4 days after I clean them. I hate cleaning up. Oh look, more dust. Fuck off!
