When was the last time a movie, a book, or a television show left you cold despite all your friends (and/or all the critics) raving about it? What was it that made you go against the critical consensus?
It’s not the opposite of what most people or friends or critics say but yeah there are several books / movies / tv shows that I am “meh” about. Some I don’t even care to watch beyond an episode or clips that I have seen. I’m usually like this – if people keep telling me “This is awesome, you must watch it” and if critics kiss that book/movie/tv show’s asses all the time; chances are I won’t watch it for a long time and will wait for all the hoopla to die down to check it out. But these are just a few of the big name stuff that I haven’t yet watched as I feel they are over exposed and “pushed” and hence I have no interest in watching them at the moment.
- Harry Potter movie & books series
- Twilight (I will never watch them)
- The Wire
- Dr. Who
- Breaking Bad
- Curb Your Enthusiasm
- Hunger Games
Of these I have the first Hunger Games movies but haven’t watch it yet as I got a bad copy. I’ll eventually watch it. And I got a copy of the first Twilight movie when it came out and before the hype & the hate started over that movie but 20 minutes into it I hated it and stopped watching. After a few months I gave it to a friend and haven’t asked for it back. I was meh about The Hangover movie for a long time and when I finally watched it I was like “Is this what people here are so fixated about?” The 3 movies were ok, I liked the 22nd one better.
I tried to watch Lost when it first was shown here but I didn’t enjoy the first couple of episodes and “lost” interest. Of the rest I might check out Breaking Bad sometime soon, it’s just that I don’t really know what I’m going to get as value from it. I know it’s really good acting and cast and it’s great black comedy – I’ll probably get to it sooner rather than later. The rest, I don’t know if I ever will.
