Should the Drinking Age Be Lowered?

The legal drinking age in India varies by state and can range from 18 to 25 years old. The legal drinking age can change based on state government regulations and policies.

  • 18 years old: The legal drinking age is 18 in Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Sikkim, and Puducherry
  • 21 years old: The legal drinking age is 21 in Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand.
  • 25 years old: The legal drinking age is 25 in Maharashtra, Chandigarh, Meghalaya, and Punjab.
  • And in my state of Kerala it is 23!

It used to be 18 back in the day so me and my friends did not have an issue. I used to drink beer by the age off 17 but we weren’t allowed to drink in the small bars near our homes as they didn’t want to get in trouble for serving minors. We would go to a friend’s house and drink the beer there. By 19 I started drinking more harder liquour like rum but it was always mixed with cola and ice.

Does it affect me if the drinking age is now 23? No and I think it should be 18 like it as back then. If you can vote legally, you should be able to get a drink!
