What Would You Rename Yourself?

I think I’ve mentioned a couple of times in this blog that I was almost named Sheffin instead of Roshan. My mom told me that she & my dad almost gave me that name just to match it with my sister Sherine. My lucky stars, a nurse who my mom befriended suggested ‘Roshan’ instead, stating that I looked like a ‘Roshan’! Whatever she meant, lady, I owe you a great deal of gratitude and am forever indebted to you. And that’s because I love my name!

It wasn’t always like that. I remember that at the ages of 8 to 15 I never did like my name. I thought that it wasn’t grand enough, if you can believe that at that age a boy can think those thoughts. I wanted to change my name to ‘Michael’ at the age of 8! Because of Michael Jackson and ‘Michael Knight’ – the character David Hasselhoff played in Knight Rider. That died out soon and then it was ‘Marc’. I also liked name ‘Joey’ over the years.

Robin is a name that I like a lot and think it would a cool name to have. If I ever have a son, I’d name him that. Rohit is another name that I like. Truth is that there aren’t that many names that I would even consider going by. This name of mine is special, it’s exotic enough and you can find lots of words to rhyme it with, you know, just in case any of you lovely ladies want to compose a poem or a sexual love ballad about me! Words like ocean, lotion (like how you want me to rub lotion all over you), motion, sensation, locomotion, trans-fixation. Just not loose motion or commotion.

Some people in my family & friends circle like to call me Rosh, a short version of Roshan. And that’s fine, cause it sounds quick, slick, it’s friendly, cool & trendy. And it’s the same as Roshan.

Cause, as the saying goes, “A Rosh by another name will still smell just as sweet!”

  1. I can’t imagine calling you anything other than Meleah. Sounds Southern US to me and I’ve grown to love the name as much as I love you!!
