I woke up this morning with a nasty cough that feels like my chest is being ripped out from the inside without the aid of an anesthetic. It’s that bad! I coughed so much in the morning that by 12:30 pm I was dead tired and I wanted to lie down for a while. So much for planning on going this Sunday. I’ll just enjoy my day off resting on my bed and browsing on the internets.
I’ve had loads of black coffee today. I watched Star Trek III : The Search For Spock today afternoon and enjoyed the banter of the original cast. They can never be replaced and they probably are the most beloved cast of any tv series. I’ve also found a link that let me download a few music albums in mp3 format. They are zipped and free for download. I got a couple of albums of Steve Morse, a Rush album & I’m currently dowloading a Jeff Beck classic.

Black magic may have worked for the Ottawa Senators. Back in Black and back to winning games. Last night the Sens, debuting their new black 3rd jerseys, came out and won their first game after 6 loses. A fresh new outlook was what we probably needed and against the New York Rangers, it worked in a 4-1 win. The goals came in from Jason Spezza, Daniel Alfredsson, Jesse Winchester & Nick Foligno. Alex Auld made 18 saves but couldn’t get the shutout as Markus Naslund slipped one through.
This was their first win since a 4-1 victory over Philadelphia on Nov. 6. Ottawa had lost each of its last two games in a shootout, including a 2-1 setback against the Rangers on Monday. Wade Redden was greeted with a video tribute at the 6-minute mark of the first period, and the crowd of 19,619 at Scotiabank Place gave the defenseman a standing ovation after the retrospective was finished. Redden spent 11 years in Ottawa before joining New York.
Arsenal’s Woes Just Got Worse
Things just went from bad to worse. Arsenal can’t seem to get over their recent run of poor form. They lost 0-3 to Manchester City. Goals from Robinho, Stephen Ireland had sunk Arsenal to a 2 goal deficit when substitute Daniel Sturridge completed a miserable day for the London side by scoring from the penalty spot in stoppage time.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger stripped William Gallas of the captaincy at Eastlands and the French defender did not travel with the rest of the squad after making critical comments about the team in midweek and goalkeeper Manuel Almunia wore the armband instead. The France defender questioned their fighting sprit and also spoke of squabbling behind the scenes. It is understood he was omitted from the team as Wenger was dismayed by the player’s comments. Arsenal went into this match without the likes of Theo Walcott, Cesc Fabregas, Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor as well as Gallas and it showed – without Gallas at the back, the Gunners looked vulnerable and their title hopes look a distant dream after their fifth defeat in the league.
4 Loses, 2 OTs – 2 Pts Out Of A Possible 12
That is the track record that the Ottawa Senators have had since my last update on my fav team. They lost to Carolina, Montreal & twice to the New York Islanders. The only points have come in the over time loss to New York Rangers & the last game to Montreal. We’re languishing at the bottom of the conference. Only the Florida Panthers have a worse record than us. 19 games played, only 6 wins, 9 losses and 4 OTs.
Only Dany Heatley is playing as expected. Jason Spezza is under fire. Problems at the back. Injuries to boot. We need wins and we need them now.
Quantas Airline Humour

I may have problems with the rebooting and recasting. I may not have liked some of the cast choices. I may never ever be able to accept anyone else in the roles of Kirk, McCoy, Spock, Uhura, Scotty, Chekov & Sulu. I may never embrace the new cast as anything other than substitutues!

A Work Related Question
Hot, hot evening. Had a somewhat productive day. I usually enjoy working on Fridays but I just wish that we had two days off in a week. I stayed at the office till 8 pm after which 3 of us took a company cab that dropped us off at our respective homes.

Gmail Has Themes For You & Me
Gmail has themes! I had already read about it in Miss604’s blog but it took Google a further 2 days to offer it to their subscribers in India. That’s ok!
I signed in to my Gmail account this morning and saw the option for themes bright and shiny at the top of the inbox. I said to myself “let’s give it a try” and clicked on it. There’s minimalistic themes for those people who prefer the basic Gmail look albeit with a little different colour scheme. There’s also picture backgrounds, animations and a couple of natural settings.
You can access the theme browser by going to Settings -> Themes. The nature themes are created to change scenery over time. Take a look at the various themes that they have and decide for yourself if you want to add some colour to your Gmail. With my Star Trek mind, I’ve chosen the Planets theme and it’s cool.
But I wonder how long it will take for most people to grow weary of the themes and go back to the old reliable but drab default one!

- It seems like the recession has hit every industry and it could get even worse. The automobile industry seems to be hanging on by the skin of their teeth. GM, Ford, Chrysler – these are massive giants in business! And they are faced with lots of cut backs and will have to let some employees go.
- It rained a whole lot today late afternoon – but we didn’t know about it! Sheltered inside a closed air-conditioned enviornment leaves you in the dark. I wish I had known; I would have stood in the car park for sometime.
- Idiotic project is pissing me off – some numbnuts do a dumb project and expect you to do all the dirty work. Sig Sigma is a shame in India. Everything is just at face value. They are so stupid.
- Nickelback’s latest album, Dark Horse, was released 2 days ago. The first single is really catchy and it’s already making waves.
- Guns n’Roses long awaited Chinese Democracy will hit the world in 3 days time! At long last! But for the purists at heart, it’s GnR only in name. With only Axl as the original member and Dizzy Reed who was there from 1991, this version of the band will have to prove themselves.
That Is Not India
One of the things that annoys me is that newspapers, magazines & online sites in India take a small poll in cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Bangalore & Calcutta and the results are meant to represent the whole of India. It’s like taking a few hundred answers to represent a billion strong nation. And the rest of the nation is completely ignored. They want to pass those answers off as what India is, likes, does not like or thinks!
And another thing is that the answers are so cliched, just like a dumb, stupid, mind-numbing Bollywood movie. You just know that the answers are so fake. Show a camera or a journalist to these idiots in these big cities and everyone becomes a fake! The worst is when they get opinions from models & actors and show them to be representative of India. This country is not that easy to understand. So be yourself and dig deeper. A whole lot deeper!!
Girl Murders Abusive Parents
What makes a person go off? Here’s a story about Priyanka Singh who could no longer take the abuse and the insults and just snapped and murdered her parents.
She was born & raised in Meerut to a father who suspected his wife of having an extra-marital affair and believed that Priyanka wasn’t his child but the outcome of that affair. Growing up, her father vented his anger & frustrations onto his daughter. Even her brother taunted her about being illegimate and asked his friend to sleep with Priyanka. The father otherwise ignored the girl and named his son as the sole inheritor of the family estate.

Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women have sent a notice to the police for not heeding to Priyanka’s complaints regarding exploitation at home.
Weather I Don't Like
A couple of days back at work after my fever and what do I get? A bad cold!
A cold that wraps itself around you head and makes you want to do nothing but sleep. Makes every sneeze feel like it’s the end of you nose & lungs as you know them. And I blame the weather.
It’s hot at times, cloudy and somewhat cool at times and it didn’t rain when it was supposed to. Add to this, when I step out of the hot sun, I go into the air-conditioned confines of my office and this sudden drop in temperature is not helping. The evenings are hot & sweaty. I hate this weather.

As the story develops, narrated by Quinn, we learn of his birth, childhood and his falling in love with Mona, a witch from the Mayfair clan. We also learn of how he gets turned into a vampire. Finally Quin learns from his unloving mother that Goblin is in fact the spirit of his dead twin, Garwin, who died a few days after being born. The child did not leave this world; he is bound to Tarquin and is relentlessly jealous to experience what Tarquin does. Lestat asks the powerful witch, Merrick, to fashion a ritual, using the corpse of the dead twin, to exorcise Goblin. During the ceremony, Merrick joins herself with the flame and the corpse. She carries her spirit and that of the child to the Light and perishes. Lestat is forlorn at the loss of Merrick but he has a new vampire companion now in the form of Quinn.

To Beard Or Not To Beard
That was the question faced by me this morning. I had last shaved on Friday, 7th November and didn’t shave on Saturday before going to work. Then I fell sick and I didn’t shave at all. So when I went back to the office on Saturday, 15th Nov, I had a good growth on my face that people at work had never seen. My beard grows fairly swiftly, considering the fact that I have been shaving since the ripe young age of (wait for it) 15 and I’m 32 now!
Usually, twice a year I let my beard grow out for about a month before I take a visit to the barber and have a shave along with a haircut. I feel liberating at that point and I always look 5 years younger once I have that shave. When I was 21, I had stopped shaving for 30 days and then I had to have an operation, so I didn’t shave for another month while I recovered. When I finally had it shaved at the barber’s, I came out a new man or rather a young boy. I have also grown a goatee or French beard twice in my life – once when I was 19 almost 20 for about 2 months and then when I was 26 and living in Calicut for another 2 months. I love growing a goatee and people normally say that I look dashing with it.
So today I stood there under the shower and wondered what to do. Ultimately I decided that I don’t feel so good growing a beard while dressed in office formals, so I took my single blade razor (kept for days like these) and put it to good use. Felt like a million dollars as I splashed a generous dose of Old Spice on my face afterwards.

Even after 18 plus of watching the series and being a big fan of the Simpsons, something or the other always astounds me about the show. First of all, before I go into the topic for today, let me just say that despite all the text stating that the Simpson‘s best season were the 1st 10 or whatever, I would still prefer to watch this show than most that are currently being shown on tv.
Ok, now to the fact that I just read – I always knew that Bart was actually voiced by a lady actress but what I didn’t know which other characters owe their voice to her. Nancy Cartwright, pictured here along with the drawing that made her famous, also does the voice for Nelson Muntz, Ralph Wiggum, Kearney & Todd Flanders!
Ofcourse she’s always been known more for El Barto. However, I remember how much of a bummer it was for me as a teenager to find out that the michievious Bart was voiced by a woman. It actually sounds cool to me now. Eat my shorts aye carumba!
