Holy Messed Up Weather

For such a beautiful, somewhat cold & lazy morning yesterday, things did get a lot hotter in the afternoon. That peaceful easy feeling turned into “man is it hot & sunny” by later afternoon. I didn’t leave the apartment but the hot sun’s rays came bearing down on me through the open windows as I lay on my bed after lunch trying to read a book. I had to get up and draw the curtains so that my face & arm wouldn’t burn.

download the burbs By late evening it was so hot & humid, mosquitoes hovering around & biting and no breeze. It was getting so hot that I was sweating doing nothing. But then it rained! However not the good rain. Not the kind of rain that I like. Since there was no wind, as I stood near the window it actually felt like it was even warmer as the rain fell. Shit! I hate this kind of weather. Can’t it make up it’s fucking mind?

It only rained for about 35-40 minutes or so and then I decided to get some sleep. It was hot & sticky for most of the night and I think it must have rained a bit more but I can’t be sure. This morning was warm until about 15 minutes back – there’s a light, cool breeze and it’s cloudy & dark. I think it’s going to rain within the hour. Hope the day turns out to be better.

Toasty Goodness & Coffee

Bread – Wheat or otherwise is the best thing to have for breakfast according to me. I just love lazy, cold mornings like today for example. And I love to spend my morning with a giant cup or cups of coffee and toasted bread for breakfast. I laze around with it, listening to music (the Blues for this morning).

Last night on my way from the bar I stopped at a Varkey’s supermarket to buy some Nescafe coffee. I spotted this big loaf of what was supposed to be garlic bread with a brand name I had never seen before – Iris. So I bought a loaf of that. This morning I toasted 4 slices of the bread and chopped up some cuccumber to go along with it. Coffee & toasted bread!

The bread didn’t taste garlicky, just a hint of it, more like… like an aftertaste. But it was soft, fresh and tasty. A light but satisfactory breakfast.

I’m Relaxing & I’m Content

Hmmmmmm! You know that sound? I can best put it in that format. It’s the sound of me stretching my body and muscles after a long sleep. It’s also the sound of contentment and laziness.

Why contentment & laziness you say? Well check out my last few days, starting Thursday. We’ll forget about the last week’s Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, which were all work. Thursday I left the office early (6:15 pm) and had a few drinks & good food with my buddies. Came home & slept. Friday was a holiday on account of some bearded guy getting crucified all those years ago (and it’s called Good Friday?). So I was at home relaxing.

Saturday I went to work and it was boring. Nothing much to do, so I sipped coffee and some other hot beverage (Boost I think) and browsed the internet for a few hours on my work station until it was time to go home. Then it was Sunday, so more laziness at home. Monday I went back to work from 9 am till 6:30 pm, conducting an induction. Nothing heavy to work on. I left the office, had a couple of beers with some fish & veggies and came home.

Tuesday is Vishu – the Malayalam New Year and begining of the harvest season in the state of Kerala. So I have an off day from work! I wish it could be like this all of the time. Work one day, get an day off the next! That would be a wonderful life!

And guess what? I have to go to work tomorrow but because of the elections being held on Thursday, we may get an off on that day as well. It’s not finalized yet, we’ll only get to know for sure tomorrow. But that would be superb! Work one day, take an off the next! :D

Cochin City Drenched In Rain Water

vexille dvd watch dead man on campus online Well I am back from work. I left the office at 6:30 pm and took a bus to Kacheripady. On the way I could see the effect that the heavy downpour of rain has had on the city of Cochin. From Edapally till Kacheripady, rain water filled the roads and the gutters of the city was overflowing.

Edapally toll bus stop seemed to have been  drowned in the high level rain water. People waded in calf height water and struggled to get to buses or into buildings. Kalloor was about the same as it has been in years – pathetic road maintanence means that the area will be filled with water no matter how heavy the rain fall is.

My destination was Oberoi bar to have a couple of beers before I head on home. MG Road was not much better off – the road sides were filled with water and it made walking on the road a task much akin to deep sea diving. I laboriously made my way to the bar and enjoyed my drinks in peace, had some fish & veggies and waited for the rain to stop. By 9 pm I was at my pc, cool & mostly dry. Surpsingly for all the rain that has fallen today, I have managed to stay away from getting soaked, even without the use of an umbrella.

Induction Tomorrow

Tomorrow, since my usual TRT (Training Relationship Team) SPOC is on leave, I will be hosting an induction program for about 25-28 new joinees to the call center. The other guy who has been backing up the girl who normally does this for our center will be taking a training batch. Some of the older readers might remember that I used to conduct these induction programs until I got promoted about 9 months ago.

It’s no big deal and since I am used to it I know what to expect. But the caliber & behaviour of the recent inductees have left a lot to be desired. Due to the financial recession, we’ve had to take in fresh call center executives at a lower salary package and it has not been good for us. A lot of them, it seems, are not serious about the job and have come to us as a stop gap arrangement between academic courses. Or while waiting the results of an interview at a higher paying salary, both here and outside the state.

This has caused me sleep and lots of tension for my trainers. I think it’s tough but I have to find a way to weed out the riff raf and chuck out any potential idiots who will ruin things in the long run. It’s true that we need people as our business is increasing but the college crowd that we get are not up to the mark. And they don’t know how to dress for an office. Oh well, c’est la recession! I will let you know how it goes.

Arsenal 4 Wigan Athletic 1

When I heard the half time score of 1-0 to Wigan, I was afraid that Arsenal would succumb as they had been doing to much less talented teams as they been prone to in the last year.

Andreyi Arshavin would setup Theo Walcott for the equalizer and score another goal himself. Substitute Mikael Silvestre would also take a pass from Cesc Fabregas and score and a final minute dancing around the defence would net a rare goal for Alexandre Song.

The only downside for Wenger was that Johan Djourou sustained a knee injury and is likely to miss the Champions League match against Villarreal on Wednesday.

Bones Is Back On StarWorld!

One of my favourite tv shows is back on regular showing here in India. Bones has resumed on StarWorld; it’s 3rd season premier having been shown on this Wednesday and the repeat shown at 9 pm tonight. Which I just saw.

The show, for the uninitiated, is about a is based on forensics and police procedurals in which each episode focuses on an FBI case file concerning the mystery behind human remains brought by FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) to the forensic anthropology team of Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan (Emily Deschanel) – the rest of the cast includes Michaela Conlin, T. J. Thyne, Tamara Taylor & Eric Milligen.

american pie presents band camp online download The series is very character driven, spurred on by the excellent chemistry between the charcters of Booth & Seeley. The rest of the cast fill that supporting role to a T and provide more than enough comic relief at just the right times. It is more of a detective show and less science driven like the CSI shows.

Instead of the flashbacks scenes of CSI, Bones has brought us the Angelator; a holographic projector whose use is to replace flashbacks that are often used by other procedural shows. In addition to their expositional purposes, the holographic images, which are created by visual effects, brought a unique visual style to the show that the producers were looking for. My Saturdays are a lot happier.

Coffee @ The Window Watching The Rain

the black pimpernel online For the entire morning & afternoon it was cloudy and gloomy today. By 2:30 pm the clouds blocked the sun and it was quite dark outside. I lay on my bed and watched Star Trek episodes on my computer. It was a big humid and I knew that rain was in store.

By around 5 pm you could hear the rumblings of thunder and there was lightning. I switched the pc off and went to get some coffee. I took my cup and went to sit in the common room which is opposite my bedroom. There was a lovely breeze blowing in through the open windows and onto my face as I sat at the desk and sipped my coffee.

I sat there and enjoyed the breeze while it rained outside. I watched the clouds glide through the sky, the roads getting a wash, a few vehicles making their way to their destination and people walking under umbrellas. It was quite & peaceful and I was content for that 30 minutes or so that I spent there.

In one word : bliss.

The Wrestler Aka Mickey Rourke’s Comeback

I finally got round to watching one of the best movies that I have seen – ever! The Wrestler is a movie about a fallen star, a one time top wrestler now a fading relic of the excess that was the 1980s. Randy ‘The Ram’ Robinson’, the guy who headlined arenas now is a weekend wrestler, strutting his stuff in small halls with opponents who are fans of his and remember his glory days. He is booked to fight a rematch of his crowning moment, a 20th anniversary celebration of his sold out match against the Ayatholla. We see Randy getting locked out of his trailer for not paying the rent, working behind the meat counter at a supermarket, puke and collapse after a heart attack, looking very aged as he puts on his glasses to read the instructions on medicine bottles, get’s insulted by his boss and breaks down in front of his estranged daughter as he begs her not to hate him for abandoning her.

We see him smitten by a stripper named Pam (Marisa Tomei) and see him try to woo her. She suggests that he tries to speak to his daughter, who takes some convincing but agrees to build back a relationship. After Pam gets scared of getting too close to him and says that they keep their distance, he gets angry and insults her. Then after a night of partying, drinking, snorting cocaine & having sex with a wrestling groupie, he forgets to show up for a night out with his daughter & their first dinner together after patching things up.

His daughter Stephanie  (Evan Rachel Wood) throws him out of her house and says that she never wants to have anything to do with him. Broken and devastated he finds himself embarrassed at where he is working when a wrestling fan recognizes him at the meat section and quits his job. He quickly arranges for his comeback match against the Ayatholla and understands that he can only be truly happy in the ring, cheered on by his fans. Randy’s heart strains in between the match and even the Ayatholla is concerned but Randy ploughs on and gets on top of the ring post.

We expect he dies of a heart attack after the match, post the final dive from the top. His heart wouldn’t have been able to recover. The movie ends as Randy jumps but that would have been fitting. He was a loser, couldn’t make a life for himself and screws things up. So in the moment of retained glory, it would have been fitting for him to die just after. And as the credits roll, a wonderful song by Bruce Springsteen plays.

“I’m an old, broken down piece of meat and I’m alone. And I deserve to be alone. I just don’t want you to hate me.”

The Simpsons Stamp On Your Mail

The yellow family will be featured on US postage stamps come May 7th. Yes your favourite animated family is going places, all around the world in fact, on the corner of an envelope or a parcel!

The U.S. post office wants folks to vote early and often for their favourite among the five new stamps honouring the funny dysfunctional family.You get Homer, Marge, Bart, Liza & Maggie. The characters, created by cartoonist Matt Groening, have become pop culture icons in 20 years on Fox television. The 44-cent stamps will go on display at 8 a.m. Thursday at www.usps.com/simpsons

Hot & Humid On The Rooftop Bar

After 3 days of heavy rain (but hardly any wind or breeze) there was a lull yesterday. I didn’t know that it would be so hot & humid until I had left my home to head to work. The day did not look like it would be pleasant.

Anyways, I was thinking of getting a quick bite to eat and maybe a cold shake before I headed off home but my buddied Anil & Madhu had other things planned. Madhu wanted to treat us to drinks & dinner @ Malabar House roof top garden. The occasion was that he had snagged a much better paying job with a higher profile. Good for him!

So I left the office a little after 6 pm and headed straight to Menaka. I got down there and had a quick soft drink, since I was parched. Then I got into an auto and headed to the bar. They had already started on a beer each and were having fried prawns. I ordered some Romanov vodka and we had some fish masala, more prawns and then moved on to french fries. The cooks over there really know how to make french fries; long, crisp, thin and plentyful on a plate. Madhu moved on to whiskey and Anil opted for brandy.

However, pretty soon I was getting really sleepy. I hadn’t been sleeping well the past 4 days and I was almost dozing off. We left the bar a little after 10pm and squeezed our asses into an auto and I reached home in a few minutes. I ended up spilling almost a quarter of a jug of water on my sheets and had to dry it off before I slept.

Firefox Add Ons – Twitter Fox

I have just installed TwitterFox on my system. TwitterFox is a Firefox extension that notifies you of your friends’ tweets on Twitter.

This extension adds a tiny icon on the status bar which notifies you when your friends update their tweets. Also it has a small text input field to update your tweets.

After installing TwitterFox in your Firefox, TwitterFox icon appears on the status bar with gray icon. Click the icon to open setup preference panel. Click ”Add account” button to enter your user name and password. Then click OK button to login Twitter. When your friends update their tweets, TwitterFox pops up small balloon on right bottom corner on your browser window.
