Rumour Or Truth? Benzema Deal Almost Done

The latest ‘news’ is that Arsenal have reportedly chartered a private jet to bring Benzema to England and have arranged for him to stay at a ‘five-star hotel in London’ ahead of undergoing a medical with the club… on Monday! These claims are being made by Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli, who has become a familiar figure to Arsenal fans for his regular updates on the Benzema saga. His stance seems to be if you throw enough spaghetti at the wall, some of it might stick. Other reports too suggest that Arsenal are edging closer to signing Real Madrid’s French striker Karim Benzema, and a deal could be completed as early as next week. Indications are that a £48m fee has been agreed between the North London side and Real, with the deal to be completed and announced next week.

Rodney Marsh believes the deal is close to happening too. He told TalkSport: “I had a phone call from a mate of mine, and he’s been right on many things. “He said that he believes Real Madrid have accepted a bid somewhere in the region of £48m for Benzema from Arsenal.” Benzema has made almost 200 La Liga performances for Real since signing from Lyon in 2009, and scored 87 goals. He signed a new five-year deal at the Bernabeu in August 2014, and earned himself a little bit of Real history by Benzema scored Real Madrid’s 1,000th goal in European competition after netting a goal in a 5–1 victory over Basel in the first match of the Champions League Group Stage the following month.

Food Review # 44

My very first visit to a Starbuck’s – I had the Iced Caramel Macchiato & Basil, Tomato & Mozzarella Sandwich. I’m skipping quite a few videos to post this one here because my visit to Chennai was a short one and I just blogged about this visit to the famed coffeeshop franchise. So here is my review of the Starbucks food & coffee.

RIP Yvonne Craig

Yvonne Craig, an American ballet dancer and actress best known for her role as Batgirl from the 1960s television series Batman, and as the Orion slave girl Marta in the Star Trek episode “Whom Gods Destroy”. died this week after a long two-year battle with breast cancer. She was 78. Craig was a pioneer of female superheroes on screen. As an actress, she originated the role of Batgirl in the 1960s “Batman” television series. As a trained dancer, she did her own stunts. The cancer metastasized to her liver, and she died Monday in her home in Pacific Palisades.

She originally trained to be a ballet dancer and was a member of the corps de ballet of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo in the 1950s. Gradually, she moved into acting, and in 1959 appeared in three films: The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story, and Gidget. She also had a guest role as Beverly Mills in the 1959 episode “Little Miss Wow” of the television series Mr. Lucky. In 1960, she appeared with Bing Crosby in High Time. In the following year, she appeared with Cesar Romero in Seven Women from Hell. Romero would later play the Joker in Batman. Another connection to Batman occurred when Craig appeared in “The Case of the Lazy Lover”, a 1958 episode of the television series Perry Mason, which also featured Neil Hamilton as her stepfather. Hamilton would later play her father, Commissioner Gordon, in Batman.

Yvonne starred in roles with Elvis Presley in two films: It Happened at the World’s Fair (1963) and Kissin’ Cousins (1964). She also starred in the cult sci-fi film Mars Needs Women (1966), and appeared in In Like Flint (1967) as a Russian ballet dancer opposite James Coburn. In the 1960s, with film roles beginning to taper off, she moved into television, appearing in several shows, including The Barbara Stanwyck Show, Death Valley Days, Hennesey, and My Three Sons. Craig appeared five times on The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, portraying five separate girlfriends for the titular character between 1959 and 1962. One of her more memorable roles came in 1969 when Craig appeared on Star Trek as Marta, a green-skinned Orion slave girl in the third-season episode “Whom Gods Destroy”. Craig’s highest profile would come with the cult 1960s television series Batman as Batgirl (and her alter ego, librarian Barbara Gordon, Commissioner Gordon’s daughter). She appeared in the final season (1967–1968).

She eventually moved into private business. For a time, she was a co-producer of industrial shows, after which she worked successfully in the real estate business. She maintained her own internet Web site.

The Lonesome Stranger

So I just attended my cousin’s wedding, the one I blogged about a few days ago. The function was held in a nice airconditioned hall attached to one of the nicest hotels in the city. Having only slept by 3am and woken up at 7:30 am I was really in no mood to go early. I stayed in bed till 8:15 and lounged about in my room till 11 after which I showered and shaved and got ready to get to the venue. I reached there by 12 just before the bridegroom and bride reached.

I met my relatives and several people I rarely ever get to see. Including a cousin and his wife I see every 2 years or so, another younger cousin who I haven’t seen since 2000!! And boy has she grown up and changed but she treated me the same way she always did as a kid – a big hit on my shoulder! Sigh, being the big brother to little cousins never change! Several relatives who have gotten older and in some cases some who I may never see again unless there is a similar function. I tend to stay away from functions like weddings but this one I just had to attend.

I always feel sad after an event like this as I see all the happy faces. The inevitable question did pop up twice; by the same people who I expected to ask it as well. Actually 3 times but one person asked it twice. “When is yours”, “yours is next” and “shouldn’t you also tie the knot”. Questions I have no answers to at the moment. And that does make me sad. It’s not that I don’t want to but it’s not something I see on the horizon for me. It might never happen. So I the fine bachelor, the only one cousin remaining yet to be hitched. I am not in the mood to go to work now. I might leave early if possible.

It’s something I never foresaw when I was younger. That I would be a lonely guy scared to attend functions with family just so I could avoid the questions and the gossip.

My First Tattoo – Tribal Dragon Design

Ok so I have been wanting to get a tattoo done for ages. I think I was 15 or so when I wanted to get a tattoo done because most of my favouite rock bands and artists had one or more than one. I’ve even blogged about it on a couple of times. One reason is that tattoos, even as they are getting more and more common, are still frowned upon where I live. Sure a lot more guys and girls have them these days but even 10-15 years back it was seen as not normal. Unless ofcourse it was a religious symbol (hypocrisy at it’s finest)!

IMG_20150814_153806IMG_20150814_162954
Also from the age of say 21-31 I never knew of any tattoo parlours (a good one or even just a single one) in my hometown or in Kerala. I asked around and never found any. Most people here would go to Mumbai or Bangalore or Delhi to get theirs done and I never traveled. In the recent years a couple of tattoo parlours have sprung up in Cochin and other cities in Kerala but I just never got round to getting one done. This year I remember telling my cousin that we should go together and get inked but he wasn’t that enthused about it.

IMG_20150814_203852

In Chennai it is more common so while I was at the mall on Friday I asked around for any tattoo parlours. There weren’t any in the mall or nearby but a store owner, who had a couple of tattoos guided me to a tattoo artist and his shop in Guindy, which is the area I was headed to next, and gave me his card as well. So off I went and met the tattoo artist, selected one design upon knowing that he wouldn’t do colour tattoos like red as the weather and our skin turns it into an ugly brown in a few weeks or months. So I went for all black. He took about an hour to do this and yes it did hurt but it was bearable pain.

IMG_20150815_212843

Initially I could see a bit of red sores and swelling. I took care of it and applied the ointment he recommended to me. 2 days later on Sunday I took this snap, once I was back home in my apartment in Cochin. It’s starting to feel a lot like a normal tattoo. I am very happy with the tattoo.

Trying To Let Go

Tell us about a habit you’d like to break. Is there any way it can play a positive role in your life?

I’m not really sure if this can ever be positive in the least. The habit that I’d like to break is falling for the wrong girl. And by that I mean unattainable women and not that there is anything wrong with them. Other than the fact that I have no chance with them.

I guess that is why I am lonely and a still a bachelor at 39. The heart desires what the heart desires and I have no control over it (note – I know that it’s not the heart that chooses and that it’s actually the brain and chemicals but it’s a hard thing to change) and I guess that is a recurring thing for me. This time it’s probably the worst – I have fallen and fallen hard with a woman who is married and has a baby! Yes, I am that bad.

Yes she is gorgeous and beautiful but that isn’t what that attracted me to her and is making me feel this way. When I first met her, I thought “damn, she’s gorgeous” but nothing much beyond that. And I became her friend and started to get to know her. Now it’s almost 5 months later and I’ve gotten to know her pretty well and she’s amazing, funny, smart and she enjoys a lot of things that I enjoy and I can joke with her and make her laugh. I realized a few weeks ago that I had started thinking about her a lot and that I didn’t even realize that it has happened.

I even tried avoiding her for a while but it just made her think something was wrong with me. Two weeks ago I spent some time with her over two days and I enjoyed it so much and yet my heart was breaking inside as I knew that nothing would ever happen. I was away for a week for work purposes and all I could think of the whole journey to and fro and the days in between was here. About how I wish I had met her a few years ago. About how much I wish things were different.

I know eventually I will get over it and I have no plans of even giving her a hint of how I really feel about her. But it is tough to get over. I wish I didn’t feel this way. But while I am on the subject of wishing, can I wish to go back in time and be the one who wins her heart?

Hard Rock Cafe , Chennai

So last Friday was made even more awesome because I saw that the Chennai outlet of the Hard Rock Cafe was in the Phoenix Mall and that came as a total unexpected surprise to me. I also saw the merchandise store but wary of prices, I only decided to head to the cafe for lunch and stick to it. It is an awesome space and the restaurant has great ambiance and atmosphere and ofcourse great decor and music. They also have great staff who were so friendly and wanted to make my visit extra special when they found out that it was my first time there and that I hadn’t expected to see the HRC during my visit but that I was a fan of rock music and really wanted to check out their restaurant.

IMG_20150814_131206IMG_20150814_131234

As you can see the posters on the wall filled me with giddy delight and I took a brief video (which I will post up later) and snapped a few pics. So there was Jane’s Addiction, Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora – and yes that’s his signed guitar on the wall there – and boy does that guitar look awesome!

IMG_20150814_131242IMG_20150814_131254

IMG_20150814_131257IMG_20150814_131304

Next up were 70s & 80s classic bands Van Halen, AC/DC, Scorpions & Jefferson Starship. There was also a Sammy Hagar one but it came out all blurry on my camera. We also have Slipnot, Godsmack and a Corey Taylor signed acoustic guitar. I loved looking at the posters and guitars.

IMG_20150814_133313IMG_20150814_133317

But ofcourse the star of the cafe is their food. I settled on the huge bbq bacon cheeseburger, with caramelized onions, which came with a small salad and lots of French fries. I went with one of the recommended mixed fruit juices / mocktails (as they don’t have the license for alcohol yet, due to being in a mall in India) which was called the Liquid Lust. Delicious combo of grape, cranberry, orange and some other stuff I can’t remember.

IMG_20150814_133307

The bacon cheeseburger was amazing and orgasmic. Loved the burger and I rate it a 10/10. Excellent place and a shame they haven’t opened one in Cochin yet. I hope they do.

Crystal Palace 1 Arsenal 2

Arsenal recovered from their opening-day defeat by West Ham to record a hard-fought victory at Crystal Palace. Alexis Sanchez had three shots blocked as the Gunners began aggressively before Olivier Giroud got the opener. The Frenchman’s superb scissor kick put away a Mesut Ozil cross but the lead lasted 12 minutes until Joel Ward’s driven shot drew Palace level. Connor Wickham hit the post on his home debut before Damian Delaney sliced a Sanchez header into his own net. Jordon Mutch almost inadvertently grabbed a late equaliser when the ball struck his head and went over from a corner, while Petr Cech held a Ward header in a frantic finish. But despite Palace’s combative display, Arsene Wenger’s side ultimately deserved the three points for the quality of their movement and resilience in defence.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger said the way in which his side responded to the 2-0 home defeat by West Ham last Sunday would define their season. Sanchez returned for a first start since his extended break following the Copa America and injected the Gunners with an immediate dose of urgency in attack. The Chile international was a constant menace in the opening stages and his hard running set the tone, but Wenger will be more pleased by the way in which the Gunners reasserted their dominance after being pegged back. Ozil, Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey continued to pester Palace with their crisp passing and aggressive movement and Sanchez’s determination was the key factor in re-taking the lead. He leaped over right-back Ward at the back post to force Delaney into the own goal, but Giroud’s effort will live longer in the memory. The 28-year-old showed beautiful technique to retain his balance and strike the ball sweetly as he controlled his fall away from goal.

Arsenal definitely rode their luck at times. Wickham was close to putting Palace ahead after the break and Jason Puncheon finished tamely when presented with a brilliant chance. Francis Coquelin was perhaps fortunate to have picked up just the one yellow card before being replaced, with referee Lee Mason taking a lenient view of the Frenchman’s persistent fouling. Cech was at fault for both of West Ham’s goals but there was little he could do about Palace’s equaliser as Ward’s driven strike was clipping the inside of post by the time he had reached the full length of this dive.

A not so convincing win but a win nonetheless to get the Gunners off this season. Two games played, 1 win, 1 loss, 3 points, 2 goals scored and 3 let in. Arsenal sit in 11th place.

My First Ever Starbucks Visit

So…I have never ever been to a Starbucks in my life until this Friday. And that’s because they don’t have an outlet in Cochin or anywhere near here for me to visit. There isn’t one in Kerala at all but there are a couple in Chennai. So on Friday after I left the office post raising a request for my return flight back to Cochin, I called for a taxi and headed towards Phoenix Market City / Phoenix Mall in Vellacherri (which is part of the main city of Chennai). It took me almost 40 minutes to get there.

IMG_20150814_113706IMG_20150814_113713

I entered the mall after the elaborate security checks and immediately fell in love with the large mall. We need more malls! I walked into the ground floor and immediately saw a large banner for Dunkin’ Donuts. But I think that was just an announcement of the franchise opening (I didn’t bother to read it completely) and did not see an outlet in the mall. But I turned left at one end and saw……Starbucks! Yes, it’s like the mothership calling me home!

IMG_20150814_113721IMG_20150814_114113

So I didn’t know that they had a Starbucks here but I was happy anyways. Starbucks is one of the franchises that I really wanted to try (it was in my top 5) and I walked in, checked out their menu and settled on an iced grande caramel macchiato and a basil, tomato & mozzarella cheese sandwich on foccachia bread sandwich! Whew, that is a mouthful. And what a good mouthful it is!

IMG_20150814_114117IMG_20150814_114121

So here is the large elaborately lengthy named a basil, tomato & mozzarella cheese sandwich on foccachia bread sandwich. That bread is so delicious even on it’s own and I love the seasame seeds on it. It’s also got fennel on it, I think. The mozzarella was delicious but the tomatoes were a downer. The basil was more like a pesto but I like the combination so much anyway. It was really good and light. Not having had anything other than a coffee or two for breakfast, I was so happy for that sandwich.

IMG_20150814_115045IMG_20150814_115130

And ofcourse, the reason why I went in, a famed coffee from Starbucks. I had a hard time settling on one coffee to try and decided to go with the iced grande caramel macchiato. It was good but I expected much more. It didn’t blow my mind or anything and that could be because I built it up in my head for so many years before actually trying it out. But still good. I will have a review video out sometime soon. Enjoy the pics!

My Chennai Guest Apartment

Well I am back home in Cochin but I thought I’d give you an idea of where I was staying for the past 6 days. From the last Monday to Saturday I was put up at Apartment 47 of Desh Apartments in Urapakaam on the outskirts of Chennai. It really is a dumpy area and not at all like the city section of Chennai. There infact was a large garbage dump, filled with rotten & slimy, smelly shitty stuff and waste and who knows what else. Worse the dump was infested with flies and there were a bunch of stray cats, dogs, cows and crows scavenging the garbage for things to eat. Worse, I had to walk past that – gagging the whole time and trying not to lose my breakfast – to get to the junction and hail an auto rikshaw.

IMG_20150810_161223

Having said that, the large apartment complex – with 4 blocks – that is called Desh Apartments was an old but neat and clean apartment building with proper security at the gate. The buildings were quite old but the flooring was good and newish. Bathrooms were pretty old and could really use an upgrade. My shower was so powerful that I had to use the lowest settings or the needle like sprays would hurt my face and body.

IMG_20150810_161240

I lived in a 3 bedroom (2 with attached bathrooms) apartment, which was about 1600 sq ft in total or thereabouts. It had a spacious living room with a tv, a coffee table, chairs and sofas. They had cable tv for all 3 rooms as well but the tvs were pretty old and hence did not support any of the HD channels. I watched very little tv when I was there. It had a small kitchen, pantry area, the 3rd bathroom, and a small hall in between with a small table seating 4 on which breakfast, lunch & dinner were served. There were two small single beds in my room with a small bedside table and a tv stand with an old cathode ray tv. A built in cupboard / closet for your clothes and a small balcony competed the room.

IMG_20150810_173327

Here is a view from the back of the apartment. Rather lovely area there. Also I have a video tour as well of the apartment.

Day 5 In Chennai – Today Was A Great Day!

Day 5 in Chennai – ah I will forever hold you in the center of my fondest memories. This is what a day out visiting a city you have never been to should be like. I slept well, from 11 pm on Thursday night till 5:20 am on Friday morning when my alarm went off and I woke up. I lazed around a bit and had coffee and a leisurely breakfast after which I took a shave and a shower and got dressed. For the last time I went to the Chennai office in Shriram Gateway, via auto, and logged in to my system to book my return flick back to Cochin. I spent about 2 hours or so there, said goodbye to the people I interacted with and called Fast Track taxi services to get me to Vellacheri, which is part of the city area of Chennai.

The taxi came by in 10 minutes and a long ride later I was in Phoenix Market City or Phoenix Mall in Vellacheri. This is one of, if not the biggest, malls in Chennai and it came highly recommended. I had some coffee and then I roamed around the mall for a couple of hours before having lunch. Then I wandered around a bit more before stopping at a Cookie outlet (can’t remember the name but they say its an Australian cookie franchise) and bought some cookies to give to my colleagues at the office. After that I asked one of the guys at the stall where he got his tattoos done, if there was a tattoo parlour nearby and if so did he have a recommendation. He gave me the card of a tattoo artist who has a shop near my next destination which was the rather awesome Hablis hotel that has an Irish pub in their basement. So I got the directions and took an auto to that place. After getting the tattoo done I went to the Irish Pub which is called, The Moon & Sixpence, and had a couple of beers with some fries. I then called a cab and came back to my room, delayed due to heavy traffic.

So all in all it was a great day as I was not only able to see some of the city of Chennai but I also had some few firsts – my first visit to Starbucks and drinking my first coffee there, my first visit and meal in a Hard Rock Cafe outlet, my first visit to an Irish pub, my first pint of Guinness and my first stout, my first Hoegaarden & first Whit beer and —— my very first tattoo! What an awesome day it was! Pics to come in future posts.

Day 4 In Chennai

Waking up at 3:30 am seems to be a common thing for me these days. Day 4, this is Thursday, started off quite the same with me waking up at at that horrible hour and then trying to get back to sleep in vain for the next 2 hours. I tossed aside my blanket by 5:30 am and went to the loo. I waited till 6am, just watching Youtube for a while, and then woke up the caretaker / cook so he could make me some coffee. I also gave him some money so he could get some of my clothes dry cleaned at a nearby store, which he did later in the morning. I showered and shaved and ate breakfast and then walked up to the junction and got an auto to get me to the office here.

The day was boring and I also sense some hostility from a small section of the trainees in that batch. Hiring should be better and I think things could have been managed a lot better. I do like some of them and for lunch I ate a sandwich and a coffee and later at 3:30pm I enjoyed a nice milkshake and by 4:30 I took a cab from the office and came back to my room for some coffee and a snack for the evening. By 6pm I got word that they had finally come to their senses and the manager of my department here called me and said that it would be crazy to keep me back here for nothing and that I could go back. I called up my boss who said he would confirm it and later that night he did. I was told that I could come back by Saturday and I asked for a day off to go and see the city a bit.

So Friday, today, I just have to go in for a couple of hours and raise a request to get me a flight back home. After that I will say goodbye to the team I have spent time with over here these past few days and then head out to the city for some shopping or sightseeing and checking out a few places. I also have a surprise coming up. Tomorrow should be a great day!

Day 3 In Chennai

Day three in Chennai and things aren’t going that great. Ok let’s get the good thing out of the way; as stated last post the caretaker / cook bought some chicken to make as a curry for our dinner. I have an apartment mate now – his name is Mark and he is from one of the offices in the Philippines. He arrived late on Tuesday night / Wednesday morning at around 1 am and went to his room. I ofcourse was fast asleep having started my day at 2:30 am. So he apparently is here for a longer period than I am and will be staying at this guest / service apartment for a while.

Anyway Mark wanted chicken for his lunch and was particular to chicken curry Indian style, minus the heavy spices, so the cook asked me if I was ok with it as well. I said sure fine and so dinner on day 3 was a nice chicken curry with chappathy and white rice. Ok, now back to the office stuff. Once again I paid Rs.200 to get to the office and got to the office by around 8 am. The session started and by now I was feeling bored as I had nothing to do and hence faded out from time to time but offered some inputs wherever needed. Lunch at the office was by now a standard single sandwich – I had egg and cheese – with a banana shake. By 3 pm I was tired and sleepy so I snuck out for some strong coffee.

I managed to get a cab back to my home and stopped at a small shop to get a snack and some coffee. I came back to my room, put on some music, drank my coffee and then another that the cook made for me, watched some Youtube and blogged and went on Facebook. Dinner was good, I was chatting with a colleague or two and by 10pm was tired and sleepy so I shut down my laptop and watched an episode of the Mentalist before I fell asleep, like clock work at 11 pm. However I did wake up, yet again at an early hour, at 3:30 am and couldn’t get back to sleep again so I just lay in bed, wrapped up in my thick blanket and thought about things. At 5:30 am I woke up to go to the loo and start the proceedings for another day at work.

Day 2 In Chennai

So I was in the office by 7:45 am and waited at the lounge area. Neither of the two senior officers in my department and who I was supposed to report to were there yet. I continued to wait and kept checking with the front desk. By 9:45 am the front desk staff took me to one of the training rooms where my counterpart was conducting a session. He was held up and could only get to the office by 11:15 am I spent some time with this batch, and finally one of the two called me back, saying that he would be working in the evening shift and hence said he will try to come in a bit early so he can work out my schedule.

After the trainer and his batch left I waited in the cafeteria – they do have a nice big cafeteria by the way and I had a mushroom & cheese sandwich and a banana shake for lunch – drinking coffee until 6 pm when the guy I was supposed to meet with came by. I had to go home by myself, as these guys hadn’t sorted out my cab situation and I have to pay a huge amount to get an autorikshaw here. Chennai auto drivers are the worst in the world! Or atleast in India. I came back to my service apartment and drank some cool water and changed my clothes. I relaxed for a bit, watching Youtube and a bit of tv. I spoke to my colleagues back home in Cochin, sent emails to my boss and superboss and started feeling a bit lonely. Only a phone call with a colleague of mine kept me sane. Dinner was chappthy and rice with some daal and an awesome eggplant curry. I fell asleep by 11 pm and woke up early, 3:30 am. I couldn’t go back to sleep at all. By 6 I got some coffee and shaved, took a bath and got ready. Post breakfast I went to the office and stayed there till 4:30 pm.

Today was a much better day but I still feel like coming here was a waste and I would like to get back home next week. I am gonna miss my cousin’s wedding on Wednesday otherwise and Onam is next weekend. I would like to go out and see the city a bit, so if I am here this Saturday I will try and go to a mall and find a brew pub as well and try some cool beers. Dinner tonight is a chicken curry with rice that the caretaker / cook is making for me and the fellow guest at the service apartment. Cheers folks!

First Day In Chennai

My first day in Chennai went like this:

I had arranged a cab to pick me up at my apartment and take me to the airport at around 8:30 am My Air India flight to Chennai was at 12:20 pm and I wanted to be early by atleast 2 hours as I had never been on a flight since 1988 and wasn’t sure of what I would do before getting in the plane. I was ready by 8 am and called the cab company to check on the arrival. At 8:35 am I said goodbye to my folks and got into the taxi and it started to rain. Heavily too! We took almost 90 minutes to reach the airport in Nedumbassery and I stopped at an ATM to get some cash out. I paid the taxi guy and got into the airport to get to the check in section.

As the check in counters for Air India weren’t open yet, I took a seat and waited for a bit. Then 10:30 a, I had my luggage go through the conveyor belt for checking and then got myself checked in. I carried my laptop bag with me but the big bag went through. Then it was onto security check before I went to the lounge area. As I got in i got a message that the plane was delayed till 1:20 pm, an hours delay so I thought I might as well get some coffee. It said that it was a mochaccino but it tasted nothing like one and I bought a chicken cutlet as well and as I was leaving I also bought a Snickers bar for later. As I sat back on a comfy sofa I met a guy who I had worked with in Idea and he was in the same flight as me, taking a connection flight at Chennai to Dubai. We sat and talked until it was time for us to board the flight.

IMG_20150810_135405

We got into the coach and were taken to the plane. I had an aisle seat and we waited for takeoff. I must say that having seen all the gorgeous chicks who are staffs of Air Asia, Jet Airways and IndiGo Air, Air India is such a disappointment with the older ladies with too much makeup. One of them was surely my mom’s age! We had just over an hour’s flight, slightly shaky and a bit noisy for a plane that looked awesome from the outside. Lunch was half a sandwich ???!!!, a box of juice and a small bottle of water which everyone finished in 2-3 minutes flat. I got off at Chennai, got my luggage, called the contact at the Chennai office and then got a prepaid taxi to my guest house. I got there and the caretaker let me in. I have a room with a bathroom attached, two bed (but only I will be using this room). It’s a really old building / apartment complex with they have air conditioning in each bedroom, an old tv with cable and most importantly, WIFI!

Dinner was chappati, rice, daal and a veggi kofta which was good. I tried watching some tv but was mostly online till 11pm when I went to sleep. A stupid cat in heat woke me up at 2:20 am after which I couldn’t get back to sleep so I laid back till 5:30 am. I got some coffee and then went to the loo and shaved, took a shower and got ready for going to the office. I needed to get there earlier than usual. Here we go!

My First Airplane Flight Since 1988

All my bags are packed, I’m ready to go
I’m standing here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye

But the dawn is breaking, it’s early morn
The taxi’s waiting, he’s blowing his horn
Already I’m so lonesome I could die

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you’ll wait for me
Hold me like you’d never let me go

Cause I’m leaving on a jet plane,
I don’t know when I’ll be back again
