Lack Of Music!

I am sadden to see a lack of rock music and instrument led music declining in most places. Everyone has hip-hop and rap and more dance oriented stuff which is ok for them but I don’t relate to that music. Everyone I see it’s hip-hop – in movies, on tv shows, Youtube videos. I want more musicians and people who spent years honing their musical skills playing guitar, bass, keys and drums till their fingers bled. Just my two cents. So when I see a rock band or music reference in a tv show or movie or whatever, it makes me happy.

I think that the world needs all kinds of music and I have a diverse musical collection. But when it gets saturated with one particular kind it becomes stale. No one wants to master an instrument anymore, they wanna just belt out the vocals and do suggestive dance movements on stage. Let there always be rock!

Unboxing The Ferengi Marauder (And USS Dauntless) Model

Quite a bit delayed but here is another Star Trek starship from the Eaglemoss collection.

IMG_20151024_101119

The D’Kora-class Marauder was a type of advanced starship utilized by the Ferengi Alliance during the 24th century. This class of vessel was, at times, referred to by several classifications, including both a warship and transport ship by the Federation, and as an attack vessel by the Ferengi themselves. During the early 2360s, Starfleet had no specific data on the design of the vessel, and at the time of first contact, possessed the general knowledge that Ferengi technology was estimated to be generally equal, but not identical, to Federation technology. Upon first view of this class vessel in 2364, Jean-Luc Picard described it as a “very impressive design.”

IMG_20151024_101207
The D’Kora-class Marauder was equipped with a variety of directed energy weapons, possessing placements for weapon ports at the “claws”, positioned on the port and starboard sides, and a torpedo launcher located at the peak of the ship’s primary hull. This class of vessel was also equipped with a forward missile launcher. In addition, the D’Kora-class was equipped with a form of energy weapon emitted from the aft of the ship, detectable by a marked power surge prior to discharge. The resulting electromagnetic pulse was capable of weakening the deflector shield power of a Galaxy-class starship, as well as the capability of depleting the fusion generator and batteries by as much as thirty percent in a single discharge.

IMG_20151024_101259

At least one D’Kora-class vessel was equipped with an embedded auxiliary vessel, the capabilities of which are unknown. The term “D’Kora-class” was first associated with this Ferengi starship class in “Force of Nature”, and again in display graphics appearing in the two above referenced Voyager episodes. With exception to Nog’s reference to Marauder-class attack cruisers in “Little Green Men”, the only reference to this design being referred to as a “Marauder” (outside of the Star Trek Encyclopedia) was in a display graphic appearing in “Inside Man”.

IMG_20151024_101309

It isn’t a design I loved that much and as for the model I had initially thought of skipping it. And to tell you the truth I got this one very cheap on eBay and thought Why not? But I am glad that I got it as it looks better once you get it in your hands though they definitely could have done much, much better.

Ok, so now you have seen the pics, here is the unboxing video. Enjoy! I got this one along with the Dauntless model (which arrived broken).

Replicate This

You’ve been granted magical engineering skills, but you can only use them to build one gadget or machine. What do you build?

I’d be repeating myself over and over again but this prompt is something that will give me the same answer again and again. I’ve said it before, I hate the fact that there are humans on this earth who do not get good food to eat 3 times a day or even food 3 three times a day. The poor, the hungry and the homeless without proper food, water or sanitation and no proper home to be safe at night. That is what I would like for us, humankind as a collective to change and get rid of the pain, hunger and thirst and poverty.

For this purpose, if I have been granted magical engineering skills I would built replicators. Food / drink, medicine, building materials, tools, other household items and clothes. And these replicators can be easily setup in every household around the globe and make it easy to build comfortable, stable and quick to build homes for everyone. So everyone – and each family can have a home – not only has a big comfortable house or apartment with great furniture, great food and drink and lots of it, medicine and stuff, clothes, some luxuries etc etc all at the press of a button. Brrrrr and it there for you. Need some stuff for the home or work – buzzzzzz and it’s there for you. All our needs met once it is installed.

And I will only need to make a few because a large one can replicate multiple replicators for people. Isn’t that great? That’s what I wanna make for people. Brought to you from the Star Trek universe. Courtesy me, your friendly neighbourhood Roshanman.

Mid-week Day Off

Back to work we go. Yesterday one of the big political parties called a state wide hartal (work and business strike) due to some incidents they had with one of their members being killed in one district and a fight in another. Hence I did not go to work and instead will be going to work on Saturday to compensate. I could have gone in at a later hour (the hartal was 6am to 6pm) and not worked on Saturday but I am needed on saturday for some other stuff anyway.

So yesterday was an unexpected day off and I couldn’t really enjoy it and go out due to the hartal. All shops and stores were closed until 7pm and I didn’t feel like going at that time. I instead had a chicken ham and cheese sandwich at home (my folks and sister did go out for a couple of hours) and lazed around all day – even managing an afternoon nap for 90 minutes or so.

It’s also getting warmed, especially in the late afternoons and evenings too. This afternoon I had hot water coming in through the pipes of my sink and shower for a while due to the hot sunny day. And mosquitoes abound. I hate that.

How is the year shaping up for you so far? Have your predictions come true, or did you have to face a curve ball or two?

I had a lot of expectations about 2016 as I felt that the last couple of months of 2015 were quite arduous and difficult to get through and the new year gave me a lot of hope. So I was looking forward to 2016 with a very optimistic view and eagerly awaited the end of 2015. But things haven’t gone all that great for me, mainly health wise.

I had a wonderful new year’s eve and new year’s day but on the 3rd (a Sunday) I felt ill and to be honest I have not completely recovered from that. Seems like a long time ago now but it is still fresh in my mind. I also need to start losing some weight and haven’t gotten round to start doing that other than cutting down on some of my meals during the week and trying to walk a lot more than I used to.

I continued working way too many hours in January that luckily for me hasn’t translated over to February (except for this Monday) that I often felt totally trained both physically and mentally and that isn’t what I expected would happen as well. I feel like 2016 can shape up to be a good year but it hasn’t had the great beginning I was expecting. Only great thing has been the little holiday I got this month and otherwise things have mostly been the same.

Money For Everything I Dreamed Of

If you’re like most of us, you need to earn money by working for a living. Describe your ultimate job. If you’re in your dream job, tell us all about it — what is it that you love? What fulfills you? If you’re not in your dream job, describe for us what your ultimate job would be.

There are several things I would rather be doing and I would love to be able to do that as my full time dream job. I would love to make money by doing something I love to do.

I wish I were a male gigolo! Catering to the sexual needs of hot & rich women around the globe. Sex sex sex sex sex! Getting proposed by all these rich women all the time and saying “no honey, I gotta work and I love my work!” That would be so awesome. Or I’d love to be the most famous and richest and hotly in demand porn stars – some of those lady porn stars are so hot and desireable and I’d love to make my living by banging them for your pleasure!

Jokes aside, I’d love to be able to do something with music. I can’t play any instrument and am only a halfway decent singer but I’d love to be working in the music industry as rock n roll is so close to my heart. Or the movie / tv industry, especially in science fiction. I just love the wonder of the science fiction and space aliens franchises in particular and would love to be part of a large scifi franchise. That’s what I would love to be doing.

Arsenal 2 Leicester City 1

Danny Welbeck threw the Premier League title race wide open when he scored a dramatic winner with only seconds left as Arsenal beat leaders Leicester City. The Foxes looked set to hold out for a vital draw as a thrilling game went into injury time, despite being reduced to 10 men after Danny Simpson was sent off for a second yellow card early in the second half. This was until Welbeck, playing his first competitive game since April last year, glanced Mesut Ozil’s free-kick past the magnificent Kasper Schmeichel to spark wild celebrations at Emirates Stadium as Leicester lost in the league for just the third time this season. Jamie Vardy gave the Foxes the lead with a hotly-disputed penalty on the stroke of half-time after he tumbled over Nacho Monreal’s outstretched leg.

Substitute Theo Walcott then set up a frantic final 20 minutes with a side-foot finish from Olivier Giroud’s superb knockdown. Leicester still lead the table – but Arsenal’s win leaves them only two points clear. In those closing seconds, with the Emirates awash with tension and anxiety, it looked like Leicester would secure a point that would feel like a victory to manager Claudio Ranieri and his players. It would have been a draw achieved with a numerical disadvantage at the home of a title rival – and would have given them four precious points from visits to Manchester City and Arsenal. Instead, Welbeck’s intervention left Ranieri and his men desolate after an outstanding backs-to-the-wall performance, exemplified by the brilliance of keeper Schmeichel as he kept Arsenal at bay, with one late save from Giroud world-class especially notable.

As for Arsenal, this result will revive their title hopes as the impact will be just as dramatic for them. It would have felt like a defeat had they not beaten a Leicester side reduced to 10 men for 36 minutes. So the title landscape has changed – but it is still Leicester at the top of the table. Walcott’s equaliser and that injury-time winner from Welbeck, who has been out for almost a year with a knee injury, was reward for their persistence and effort in the second half. It was not just vital in the context of this game, it was crucial in the wider context after a poor run of home form which had seen the Gunners fail to win in four league games – with three draws and a defeat – before last week’s win at Bournemouth.

Never Again

Have you ever gone to a new place or tried a new experience and thought to yourself, “I’m never doing that again!” Tell us about it.

I dunno, there are a few places that I will never ever want to go to again. Like religious places of worship; I don’t want to waste the only life I have in that stuff. Especially Guruvayoor – the last time I went there was back in 2004 I think and it was for my cousin’s wedding which was at the temple and the lunch part at a hall nearby. The smell of elephant urine was so strong that I felt faint and had breathing issues and I just gave up and moved away, missing the actual exchange of rings and the garlanding. Never again!

I also will no longer trust anyone completely. I have just had too many problems and even recent reminders of trusting someone too much or believing that some people are friendly and will not hurt you. I think it has to do with other people also being older and cynical and untrusting, which makes them untrustworthy. It’s a combination of things I guess but never again. The people who have earned my trust have really earned it and I’m not going to give away trust like it is a free snack.

Also something I would advise – do not drink more than one kind of liquor in one sitting. I mean drinking beer and then going onto hard stuff is fine, or even vice versa (though I feel that beer should be first) but don’t drink brandy and then rum or something else on the same sitting. I did that once – emphasis on once – and never again. Many years ago I had 4 rum and cokes and then switched to 2 brandy + cokes and late in the night I woke up from my sleep to puke all over the floor. Didn’t even make it to the loo. That was not a pretty sight.

Crimson Peak

Crimson Peak is a 2015 American gothic romance film by director Guillermo del Toro and written by del Toro and Matthew Robbins. The film stars Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Charlie Hunnam, and Jim Beaver. Produced by Legendary Pictures and distributed by Universal Pictures, the film was released on October 16, 2015.

The movie starts in 1887, after young 10 year old Edith, the daughter of wealthy American businessman Carter Cushing, has just lost her mother to an illness. Later at night she gets a visit from her mother’s ghost who warns her to “beware of Crimson Peak”. 14 years pass and a young Edith is a budding writer but her editor wants her to write more romance in the ghost stories that she prefers to write. Edith is introduced to Sir Thomas Sharpe, an English baronet, who is in the US to get investors for his clay mining invention. Cushing, who built his business the hard way, lightly insults Thomas’s privileged upbringing and mentions the Englishman’s previous failed attempts to get raise capital and rejects his proposal along with his fellow businessman.

Edith notices that Thomas and his sister, Lucille, wear expensive but outdated and somewhat-frayed fashions. Shortly after, Edith once again is visited by her mother’s spirit bearing the same warning. Thomas begins to court Edith, sharing similar passions in ghost stories and offers to read her manuscript. He and Edith become romantically attached, Cushing and Edith’s childhood friend, Dr. Alan McMichael, disapprove. Cushing hires a private detective to check into the Baronet’s background uncovers unsavory facts about the Sharpes. Mr. Cushing confronts the siblings and bribes them into returning to England. As Cushing insisted he do, Sir Thomas abruptly and cruelly ends his and Edith’s relationship, but the next morning, he sends her a note explaining his actions. That morning someone in a black coat brutally murders Cushing in the bathroom, making it look like like a possible accident. Thomas stays behind while his sister goes back to England and is at Edith’s side as she arranges for her father’s funeral. Edith and Thomas eventually marry and travel to Allerdale Hall, the Sharpes’ dilapidated mansion in rural England, which sits atop a red clay mine. As Edith settles in, she finds that Lucille acts somewhat cold toward her while Sir Thomas remains physically distant. Edith is left confused and uncertain by their behavior.

Edith starts encountering greusome ghosts in the mansion and she leaps at the chance to go into town with Thomas, where they spend the night in a rented room and consummate their marriage. When they get back home the next morning Lucielle lashed out angrily at Edith, saying she was worried sick before calming down. Edith learns from Thomas a little later that the estate is also referred to locally as “Crimson Peak,” due to the warm red clay seeping up through the snow and she remembers the warning. Edith starts to feel sick and coughs up blood but explores the mansion and begins piecing clues together, discovering that Sir Thomas previously married three wealthy women who were fatally poisoned for their inheritances. She realizes she, too, is being poisoned. She also discovers the siblings have had a long-term incestuous relationship, resulting in a sickly infant that died. Lucille, older by 2 years, murdered their mother after she had discovered her children’s incest. Thomas inherited the family manor that, like many aristocratic estates of the era, is no longer profitable; the siblings are almost out of money. The brother and sister began the “marriage and murder” scheme to support themselves and to fund Thomas’s inventions.

While this happens back in the US Dr. McMichael couldn’t let go of his suspicions about Cushing’s death contacts the detective that Cushing had hired, who tells Alan what he uncovered about the Sharpes, including Thomas’s multiple marriages and Lucille’s time in a mental institution. Alan goes to England and reached the mansion to rescue Edith. Lucille however stabs him and then demands that Thomas finish him off. Thomas, in love with Edith and does not want her harmed, inflicts a second, non-fatal stab wound to Alan before hiding him in the cellar. Lucille forces Edith to sign a transfer deed granting the Sharpes ownership of the Cushing estate and also confesses to her that she was the one who murdered Edith’s father. Edith signs the deed then she stabs Lucille in the chest with a pen and tries to flee. Thomas burns the deed and promises to protect Edith so that she and Alan can escape. Lucille, jealous over Thomas falling in love with Edith, murders him in a rage. She then pursues Edith. Aided by Thomas’ ghost, Edith kills Lucille with a shovel. Thomas bids Edith a silent farewell as his spirit departs. Edith and Alan are rescued, and Lucille’s ghost now haunts Allerdale. The end credits imply that Edith has written a novel titled Crimson Peak based on her experiences.

The story is kinda nothing new and even ends a bit predictable but it is a gorgeous set movie and acted well with a strong cast. I like horror stories and Gothic films and this one does most things well. I give it an 8 outta 10!

The Staycation Is Done

Well…………………………….it’s back to work we go. I had to cut down my requested days off / mini-vacation by a day. So instead of 9 days off I got 6 days off with me having to go back to work to for two reasons – one is for a client phone call discussion and training and two is that I am asked to do some work for new hire folks and they don’t want to wait till next week.

So as I sit at home and wait till 1:45 pm (which is usually when I go take as shave and a shower and then have lunch) and then once I get ready I still have a little rest period before the company cab comes to pick me up (usually at around 3:15 pm as I my regular shift is from 4:30 pm to 1:30 am. I am still in a lazy and holiday mood so I guess it’s a good thing that I only have to work the one day this week. Immediately after this day i have my weekend to rest and relax and laze about and watch more tv or movies or go out if I want to.

I wish every week could be like this one. One day of work and you get 6 days off after that. 3 days to rest and relax and 3 days to shop, eat out, drink and party! It will be so good! Ok, back to reality!

Quirk of Habit

Which quirky habit annoys you the most, and what quirky habit do you love — in yourself, or others.

I find a lot of habits annoying but I don’t let them bother me too much. Unless it is affecting me in a physical way or disturbing or disrupting me or someone else I don’t say anything. I might notice the habit and choose to ignore it or look away or tune out or something to get my mind off it. It shouldn’t bother you too much so ignoring it is the nicest thing to do. I hate it when it really becomes a nuisance but what can ya do?

I hate it when people smack their mouth as they eat and make loud chewing noises, say the god stuff to you even when they know that you are a non-believer and think that they are capable of changing your mind or worse, are judging you, talk to you about things you are not interested in no matter how many times you have told them that, ruin movies or tv shows you haven’t seen by giving away unasked for spoilers, poke you when they are talking to you, etc etc. Habits are nice and all but these ones are annoying.

Usually I can see past them but sometimes you are having a bad day and there comes along this one person who has that annoying habit and they want to sit next to you at the office dining room and there goes your 30 minutes of peace! Lovely, isn’t it? :D

No Fair

Tell us about something you think is terribly unfair — and explain how you would rectify it.

I don’t think it’s fair that some nations still struggle to feed their people and some others have so much to give. I don’t think it’s fair that a lot of people are still struggling to feed themselves and have no proper bed to sleep without four walls and a ceiling to protect them and have to sleep on the streets, on the steps of a closed shop or store. I do not think it is fair that some have it all while some have none.

I do not think any human or animal or bird should go hungry or thirsty or should be alone in the dark. Every being should be safe and secure and be comfortable in their own homes. And those homes should be as they want it to be and with comfort and even some luxury and filled with cool air when it’s hot and warmth when it’s not so outside. Every person has an nice apartment or house filled with food and drink and everything he or she needs. Every family has a nice big house and 2-4 pets. Every dog and cat and horse etc etc have a loving human or humans / family to take care of them and feed them and love them. Every one should have that as their family.

So I don’t think it’s fair that some live it up in luxury and get to have all the things they want while others still struggle to get the things they need. Someday this will become a reality where everyone will be alright and ok and no problems will occur.

Small Haul From Lulu Mall

I made my first visit to Lulu Mall (the largest mall in India) which is located just 7.5 kms away from me! Yeah, talk about procrastination; it took me almost 3 years to visit it since it opened. Oh well, it is huge and I must have walked a total of 5kms inside the 4 levels but it was fun. I bought a few things for the house (not shown in here) and the rest is for fun.
