Sicario: Day of the Soldado

Sicario: Day of the Soldado (titled Sicario 2: Soldado in the UK) is a 2018 American crime-action film directed by the Italian filmmaker Stefano Sollima and written by Taylor Sheridan. A sequel to 2015’s Sicario, the film features Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, and Jeffrey Donovan reprising their roles, with Isabela Moner, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Catherine Keener joining the cast. The story relates to the drug war at the U.S.-Mexico border and an attempt by the United States government to incite increased conflict among the cartels.

The investigations into a terrorist attack by Islamic suicide bombers in a Kansas City grocery store, leads the United States government to respond by authorizing CIA agent Matt Graver to apply extreme measures to combat Mexican drug cartels who are suspected of having smuggled the terrorists across the border. United States government responds by authorizing CIA agent Matt Graver to apply extreme measures to combat Mexican drug cartels who are suspected of having smuggled the terrorists across the border. and stage a fake rescue with the help of the DEA and local police, trying to make her think she was kidnapped by her father’s enemies.

They take her to Texas where Gillick bonds with Isabel and the team makes plans to transport her back to Mexico. They plan to leave her in territory controlled by her father’s rivals to further escalate the inter-cartel conflict. However, after they cross into Mexico, the Mexican police escorts double-cross them and attack the American vehicles. Graver and his team kill 15 Mexican policemen to escape the ambush. Isabel runs away in the chaos and Gillick follows her Meanwhile, the American government determines that at least two of the suicide bombers in Kansas City were actually domestic terrorists, not foreign nationals, and thus were not smuggled into the United States by the cartels. To quell tensions with Mexico, the Secretary of Defense orders the CIA to abandon the mission.

Isabel, having been a witness, is the Secretary orders the team to erase all proof of American involvement by killing Isabel and Gillick. Graver in turn orders Gillick to kill Isabel, but Gillick refuses and turns rogue to keep her alive. Graver and his team fly covertly into Mexico using a GPS tracker hidden in Isabel’s shoe while Gillick disguises himself and Isabel as  illegal immigrants and pays human traffickers to help them reenter the United States. However near the border, Miguel, a young Mexican-American who has been recruited as a coyote, recognizes Gillick from an encounter in a Texas parking lot two days earlier. He alerts his boss, and Gillick and Isabel are captured. Miguel is forced to shoot Gillick, and the gang leaves him for dead. Miguel however is fed up with the gang and leaves them to go back home.

Graver and his team track down the Mexican gang and kill them all. Graver decides to bring Isabel back to the United States and put her in witness protection rather than follow his orders. Meanwhile, Gillick regains consciousness and discovers he has been shot through the cheek. He finds the dead gang members and their cars, takes a car, and drives for the border. One year later, Gillick has recovered from his injuries. He locates Miguel at the mall and tells him they are going to have a talk about Miguel’s future.

It’s not as good as the first one but I also thought that the first film was boring in most parts. This one though didn’t have the same stylized impactful scenes which I thought the first one did. Confused? While Soldado was more fast paced it didn’t feel as impactful as the original film. The girl who plays Isabel, Isabela Moner, I thought was really good. Brolin and Del Toro were their usual high standards for acting but there was so much more that I felt we could have gotten from such a film. 7 outta 10 for me!

Huddersfield 1 Arsenal 2

Arsenal manager Unai Emery said finishing in a top-four spot will be “difficult, but we can” after his side’s first away win since November at Premier League strugglers Huddersfield. The result saw the Gunners, who remain sixth, move within a point of fourth-placed Manchester United and level on points with fifth-placed Chelsea, who face Manchester City on Sunday (16:00 GMT). “We have played 26 games and there is one point between Manchester United and us,” Emery said. “If we ask ‘is it easy or difficult for us?’ then yes, I think it’s difficult, but we can. We are on our way.”

Once Alex Iwobi’s strike deflected into the bottom right corner off defender Terence Kongolo, the visitors rarely looked like relinquishing the points in Yorkshire. Alexandre Lacazette’s tidy finish from Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ cross ensured victory despite a late Huddersfield fight-back. After Iwobi and Lacazette had squandered chances to increase Arsenal’s winning margin, Adama Diakhaby and Laurent Depoitre both went close to scoring for the hosts. And while Saed Kolasinac’s own goal represented the Terriers first, in 597 minutes of football, it was not enough to retrieve a point. Huddersfield remain marooned at the bottom of the table, 13 points from safety with 12 games remaining.

Arsenal arrived in West Yorkshire in the middle of an indifferent period of form, with three defeats in seven outings during 2019 underlining long-standing defensive issues. Unai Emery’s side was able to brush off the absence of top scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and win without being at their best. In attack, Arsenal’s thrust was generally provided down the flanks courtesy of right wing-back Ainsley Maitland-Niles and team-mate Kolasinac on the opposite side.

WhatASale Experience

Last week India’s first cashless store, WhatASale, launched a vending in our office building. What is WhatASale? It is India’s first cashier-less store that’s opened up in Kochi, Kerala. You need to follow three simple steps: download its app, open it and scan the unique QR code while entering the store. That’s it. You can now pick the items you need, and you can pay for via different online payment options.

Subhash S, CEO & CTO, Watasale, shared that he was inspired to attempt this because of the media attention received by Amazon Go. Using a combination of QR codes, computer vision, sensor fusion, deep learning, and AI this concept of pick up and go has been made possible. While they have an actual store, my experience is limited to the vending machine. You download the app and enter a one time password of 4 digits on the keypad. This will open the door.

Then you check and pick up what item or items you want. So far I and my colleague have only picked up Lays and Orea cookies. You know, when you get peckish 4 to 5 hours after dinner. You get the bill sent to the app and you pay later. You can use your credit/debit card or online payment apps. So easy. Best thing – this is a local company!

Dependence

Who Is The One Person That You Definitely Couldn’t Live Without? And Why?

None. I do not believe in this sentiment that you cannot live without someone or some people in your life. You may not want to live without that someone or some people, but you can. You do not need anyone else but yourself to live and survive, as long as mentally & physically you aren’t dependent on anyone for your sustenance & daily activities.

That’s a far cry from what I used to believe many years ago. But that’s the truth as far as I can make it out to be. I could go on until my time is up without anyone in my life. As long as my needs are met – like food, drink, entertainment, clothing, shelter and the other basic needs that most people need – I do not need to be dependent on anyone else. I could go on until the day that I die.

It might not sound very romantic or sweet or feel goody but it’s the truth.

Aquaman

Aquaman is a 2018 American superhero film based on the DC Comics character of the same name, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It is the sixth installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Directed by James Wan, with a screenplay by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Will Beall, from a story by Geoff Johns, Wan and Beall, it stars Jason Momoa as the title character, with Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Nicole Kidman in supporting roles. It is the third live-action theatrical film featuring Aquaman, following Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017), and the first full-length feature film centered around the character. In Aquaman, Arthur Curry, the heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, must step forward to lead his people against his half-brother, Orm, who seeks to unite the seven underwater kingdoms against the surface world.

  • The special effects are awesome. They create a whole new world or two underwater and they didn’t spare any effort to make it look amazing. The details are there to be seen.
  • Choice of cast – I’ve heard this being said several places that Jason Momoa was born to play Aquaman. I could have said that about his role in Stargate : Atlantis and in Conan The Destroyer remake. Maybe even Khal Drogo in Game Of Thrones. But he does a great job here, though he is becoming a one-dimensional actor or typecast. That’s what it seems to me with his roles.
  • Amber Heard – she had kinda disappeared for a long time, if I am not mistaken. Post her films in 2009-11, the most noise has come from her tumultuous marriage & later divorce from Johnny Depp. She does a good job over here though that red hair looks so fake.
  • The supporting cast – good jobs by Patrick Wilson (who I thought was an odd choice for a villain but was convincing), Dolph Lundgren, Nicole Kidman, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II & William Dafoe. I especially liked Nicole Kidman’s performance.
  • Temuera Morrison portrays Thomas Curry, the lighthouse keeper who is Arthur Curry’s father – and I was wondering, hey he looks a lot like Django Fetta and the voice for the stormtropper clones in the Star Wars prequel movie  Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002) and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005).

Action & fight scenes are really well done. It’s mostly good ole fun and entertainment without thinking much about anything deep and light on the science fiction. I knew very little about Aquaman the comic character in comic books or otherwise until the 2016 appearance by Momoa in Justice League though I had some idea about this character. It’s a good afternoon of fun but I was surprised as to how much money it has made so far. 8 outta 10 for me!

3 Reasons Why Knowledge Really Is Power in Your Business

Everyone is undoubtedly familiar with the phrase “knowledge is power.” It’s the kind of thing that used to get served all the time on TV shows, when we were kids, and likely many of us had our parents constantly reminding us of the importance of education, on the basis that it would enable us to live fruitful, successful, and happy lives.

Of course, this statement has many profound truths to it. The more you know about health, fitness, and nutrition – the better able you are to keep yourself in top physical condition, optimise your mood, and avoid health crises down the line. Or, to give another example – the more you understand about DIY, the less reliant you are on potentially expensive repair services.

But, of course, one of the key areas in which the statement applies is in the realm of business.

Here are a few reasons why knowledge really is power in your business, and why you should commit to continual education, and depth of understanding, if you’re interested in long-term professional success.

Your analytics can show you the right path to take

There are many various types of data analytics which are likely to be relevant to any given business. One of the key metrics that is often tracked, for example, is “bounce rate.” This is a metric that refers to how long the average visitor spends on a given page, or section, of your website.

If you notice that your primary sales page has a “bounce rate” of three seconds – you can assume that there is a real problem there, that needs to be addressed if you want to have any hope of actually making any sales via your website and all.

Then again, your analytics can also show you what’s going right. Perhaps you have embedded certain links in a newsletter email, which gets automatically sent out once a week via MailChimp, and have noticed that one of these links seems to yield a disproportionate number of engagements.

It would then be, by far, in your best interests to try and identify what it is about that particular link which is appealing to customers and clients – and to apply those principles to other dimensions of your marketing.

Simply by measuring and reviewing your analytics, you can often completely transform the course of your entire business for the better.

Specific goals, targets, and strategies get results – non-specific ones don’t

It has been said, time and time again, that “if you don’t know where you want to go, you’ll never get there.” On one hand, this is an injunction to pay attention to the importance of goal setting, generally.

In another sense, however, this quote – and ones like it – hits at a more nuanced truth. That is, that specific goals, targets, and strategies get results – and non-specific ones don’t.

You have likely heard of “S.M.A.R.T.” goals – an acronym that stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-Bound.

The point of this acronym is that when you set goals, they should be as focused as possible. You should know exactly – not broadly – what it is you want to achieve. You should know when you want to achieve it by, and you should have a clear idea in mind of what metrics you are going to track to see whether or not you are progressing down the right path.

Of course, being specific involves – almost by definition – having more information. The more information you are able to bring to bear on the goal-setting and planning process, the more likely you are to actually be able to bring your dreams to fruition.

The more you know about your field, and industry, the better able you will be to navigate it masterfully

Here’s a no-brainer question; if a potential employer had to hire one of two people for a given role, and one was an expert in the field, and had a proven track record of being masterfully insightful in that domain, and the other knew absolutely nothing about the field and all, who do you think would get the job?

Of course, this is an exaggerated situation. It is rarely, if ever, the case that out of any two applicants for a job – one will know everything, and the other will know nothing.

Nonetheless, the point stands. When you know more about your field and industry, you’re invariably going to be more attractive to potential employers.

More than this, though, you are also going to be better able to navigate the industry on your own terms. An entrepreneur who knows more than his competitors, for example, is in a very advantageous position.

Could Sports See That Your Kids Are Fit For The Working World?

Any parent knows that encouraging their kids to take part in active hobbies is a good thing. If nothing else, this is a fantastic way to encourage fitness. No parent could sniff at that in a world where more than 1 in five children are overweight or obese. Even if your child isn’t suffering with their weight, ensuring that they keep on top of exercise can see them living a happier and healthier life. If you haven’t already signed them up for some sport, then, that alone should see you reaching for your pen.

The benefits don’t end there, either. A regular sporting habit can also set children up for their futures in a lot of ways. That’s because the mentality sports induce isn’t dissimilar to the way we need to think in the working world. Sports are more than physical activities. They also teach a set of values which kids can take forward with them. You could go as far as to say that sporting is a way of life, not just a hobby. But, how exactly can a local sports club set your kids up for proper behavior in the workplace? Keep on reading to find out.

Let’s talk teamwork

You can’t mention sports without talking teamwork. With few exceptions, the two go hand in hand. Group options like baseball and football can certainly teach kids a few things about working with others to get a job done. They can’t very well score all those goals on their own, after all. Instead, every member of the team plays a set and crucial role towards the team’s overall success. And, everyone has to respect those positions to reap the rewards of them. If that doesn’t sound familiar to you, it should. It’s precisely the kind of dynamic we see in workplaces across the world. Again, there are exceptions, but most of us need to work with our colleagues to achieve results. An office is all about different departments working towards a united goal. In industries like retail, you rely on various team members to complete different aspects of a transaction. In a field like construction, an ability to work with others becomes a matter of life or death. Whatever industry your child chooses to work in, then, you can bet they’ll thank their days on the sporting field. Start them here early enough, and they should be able to forge decent relationships in any environment. All thanks to those sports.

You don’t get anything if you don’t work hard

Sports are also all about working hard to achieve results. Most teams will meet at least twice or more a week to work on their game. Leading up to big matches, these practices may even increase to an hour or more every morning. That’s because you can’t win without working for it. And, you can’t achieve a decent career without doing the same. Time on that sporting field will show your child how their efforts impact the results they see. If they skip practice, they’ll lose a game. It’s that simple. This direct correlation is sure to teach them invaluable lessons about the importance of hard work. The teachings of those early morning practices could see them arriving at the office first or staying after hours to ensure that perform to the best of their ability. That outlook alone is sure to see them going far in whatever they opt to try their hand at. It could even see them climbing the ranks pretty sharpish. People who go the extra mile always come to the attention of the right people, after all.

How do you deal with pressure?

Any sport also brings a fair amount of pressure and stress. Often, this is seen as a bad thing. And, there’s no denying that overbearing parents who pile on the pressure to win can do more damage than good. But, in general, a little pressure when you’re young isn’t all bad news. The working world is a high-pressure environment every single day, after all. If you wrap your kids in cotton wool and make everything too easy for them, that shift is going to come as a real shock. So much so that they may be unable to cope with even the slightest pressure on their shoulders. In extreme cases, this can lead to mental struggles such as anxiety. It could even see them avoiding any career which threatens to challenge them. And, that isn’t good. But, it needn’t happen if they’re used the pressure of regular sporting events. The training and day itself are sure to stress them out but in a safe environment. They’ll have you and their coach to see them through and make sure the pressure doesn’t get too much. Gradually, they’ll develop their own coping mechanisms for those stressful situations. And, when they do head out to work, they’ll be able to turn to those methods to see them through the worst meetings or sales pitches.

The importance of dressing the part

Any sporting activity going requires a uniform of some kind. Often, this is a case of ease. In team sports, it’s to do with being able to spot your fellows on the field. And, it could well be the first time your child has ever had to wear a uniform for anything. While some schools in the U.S. do require uniforms, many don’t. As such, your child may only know how it feels to wear clothes they’re comfortable in. That can be problematic when they have to dress the part for work. Even if they aren’t working in a uniform-based space, there will be an expectation for them to dress to impress. And, surprise surprise, this is also a lesson they can learn from all those sports. Whether they’re going to practice or playing a match, they’ll need to have a clean uniform ready to go. And, they’ll need to wear it. Otherwise, they’ll get turned away and miss out. Whether they have to wear youth baseball uniforms or football kits, this will get them into a positive habit. When the time does come for them to head to work, then, they won’t resent that uniform need at all. In fact, they’ll embrace it with fond memories of their early sporting days.

Respect for authority figures

Early sports can also teach kids about respecting authority figures. Their respect for you and their teachers should already take them halfway here. But, the relationship between players and coaches is often far more like that of employees and managers. That sports coach will work those kids to the bone, and there will often be a lot of resentment. Some players may even rally against the workload, or resent their coach at times. But, when they make those winning goals, they’ll be able to see clearly why all that work was necessary. And, this can lead to strong levels of friendship and respect which they won’t experience elsewhere. That’s a good thing considering that this is a lot like the relationship they’ll later have with their bosses. Managers work us hard, and the relationship isn’t always a happy one. Ultimately though, a positive working environment involves some understanding between managers and employees. No matter how much we hate our bosses during the day, we need to put those feelings behind us during  those after work drinks. It’s also important that we bite our tongues if we want to keep our jobs. And, those are all skills that time working with a sporting coach could provide your kids.

How to lead

While this isn’t applicable to every kid who does sports, some will also learn the ability to lead along the way. Those who go on to become team captains or managers will learn what it takes to keep a team in check. They’ll learn about the need to keep everyone onside while maintaining a healthy level of control. They’ll also learn about the need to push themselves harder than their team to ensure the best results. And, these are all qualities which could lead to a future leader in the workplace. If a management position came up in their workplace, they probably wouldn’t think twice about taking it. The chances are that they would do a pretty damn good job, too. And, that’s all because you encouraged them to join the local baseball team. You could go as far as to say that joining a sporting group early can improve their quality of life for the rest of their days. When you think about that, there really is no time like the present to sign them up.

For these reasons and more, you should do what you can to find a sport which suits your child’s needs. Even if they aren’t outwardly sporty, options like yoga or horse riding could still see them experiencing all the benefits they need. One thing’s sure; you can bet they’ll thank you for this when they’re achieving their dreams as an indirect result.

My Fav Season

Write about your favorite season.

Despite the pleasant few weeks we had in late December and the first 2 weeks of January of lower temperatures, my favourite season is the monsoon. I love the rains, as long as I do not get too wet or catch bad colds or fevers. I love the monson seasons because that means as long as it rains we have cooler days and nights and less mosquitoes.

The mosquitoes go away during the heavy rain falls and that means, cool nights sleeping between the sheets. I love falling asleep to a nice heavy rainfall (as long as we don’t see the awful floods we had last year) and it’s a great feeling. The earth gets a cleansing and a bath and it gets refreshed.

Plus the cold rains are awesome for grilled chicken and drinking vodka!

Confessional Jokes

A man enters the confessional in a Church: “Father, I have sinned. I have been unfaithful to my wife. I’m a film producer and about two weeks ago I slept with Jennifer Lopez.” “Anything more than confess son?” replies the priest “Yes father. Last week I was weak and I also slept with Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts.” The very calm priest asks: “Any other sin, son?” “Yes father, this week I could not contain myself and participated in a threesome with Gal Gadot and Brie Larson.” “Sorry, son, but I can not absolve you,” the priest replies. “Why not Father, if the mercy of God is infinite?” “Yes, but God will not believe you’re sorry.

An old priest who became sick of all the people in his parish who kept confessing to adultery. One Sunday, in the pulpit, he said, “If I hear one more person confess to adultery, I’ll leave the priesthood!” Well, everyone liked him, so they came up with a code word. Someone who had committed adultery would say they had “fallen”. This seemed to satisfy the old priest and things went well, until the priest died at a ripe old age. About a week after the new priest arrived, he visited the Mayor of the town and seemed very concerned. The priest said, “you have to do something about the sidewalks in town. When people come into the confessional, they keep talking about having fallen.” The Mayor started to laugh, realizing that no-one had told the new priest about the code word. Before the mayor could explain, the priest shook an accusing finger at the mayor and said, “I don’t know what you’re laughing about, Your wife fell two times this week.”

The new priest is nervous about hearing confessions, so he asks an older priest to sit in on his sessions. The new priest hears a couple confessions, then the old priest asks him to step out of the confessional for a few suggestions.\ The old priest suggests, “Cross you arms over your chest, and rub your chin with one hand.” The new priest tries this. The old priest suggests, “Try saying things like, ‘I see”, ‘Yes, go on’ and ‘I understand.’ ‘How did you feel about that?'” The new priest practices, saying these phrases. The old priest says, “Now, don’t you think that’s a little better than slapping your knee and saying ‘No shit?!? What happened next?'”

Ava Lounge @ Radisson Blu

One of my wishes for this month was to try out one or two bars in 5 star hotels. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to Radisson Blu. It was back in 2015 when it was still called Dreamz Hotel before the Radisson group took over, that I was in the place for attending an office function and lunch.

So I finally I joined my cousin Sujith, who has been here a couple of times before, to visit the Ava lounge bar. We had Amstel beers, a Long Island Ice Tea each then a 340 ml Budweiser while munching on a couple of plates of delicious Afghani chicken tikka, chicken seekh kabab and tempura prawns.

When we went in at 12:34 pm the place was empty and we enjoyed the corner table and comfy cushiony seats we had. About an hour later some folks from a wedding party downstairs came in for some wine and beers and other stuff and were making a ruckus. But we still enjoyed the afternoon and I want to come in for more. Enjoy the pics!

5 Days To Live

If You Were Told You Were Going To Die On Friday And Today Was Monday, What Would You Do?

Hmm, 5 days to live. Dying on a Friday. What would I do?

I honestly do not know. Quit my job ofcourse. Go to a nice hotel and rent a good room and relax for a couple of days and enjoy their room service. Eat at all my favourite restaurants and drink a whole lotta booze.

Hey, maybe that is what kills me? LOL!

And then come home and sell most of my stuff. On Friday, I’ll say goodbye to the people I love and a big FUCK OFF! to the people I hate.

I really like the Conjuring Universe that started off with The Conjuring (2013)  distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures and heralded by James Wan. The two main films and its three spin-offs have proven themselves to be successful at the box office, having combined earnings of over $1.568 billion worldwide, against a combined budget of $103.5 million, making it the highest-grossing horror franchise in history and one of the most critically acclaimed.

This below is my ranking of the films.

Plan For February

I’ve wished for it, I’ve thought about it many, many times but I’ve never done it. So the plan for February is to take a few days off and book a room in a nice hotel or resort and chill out for a few days. I’ve wanted to get out of here for a while, really get away from home and especially from work and to unplug from these two worlds. I really could use some time away.

The folks at home and the BS I have to take at work. Well, who wouldn’t want to get away from work right? I now have some money and therefore booking a nice, air-conditioned room in a nice hotel or resort with a big comfy bed and a large tv and enjoy some room service and not worry about much other than what tv show or movies to binge during that time. Or take a book with you and just read it from cover to cover. Maybe two books!

So I dunno if I can do it for 2 or maybe 3 days but definitely 2 at the least. If I get a good deal then it can be 4 days. But 3 will do.
