I Have Vertigo!

To be specific I have Benign paroxysmal positional vertigoĀ (BPPV). Ā the sudden sensation that you’re spinning or that the inside of your head is spinning.Ā BPPVĀ causes brief episodes of mild to intenseĀ dizziness. It is usually triggered by specific changes in your head’sĀ position. People can experience dizziness, a spinning sensation (vertigo), lightheadedness, unsteadiness, loss of balance and nausea.

This past Sunday when I woke up and got outta bed, I had the shock of my life as I had a sudden dizziness and the feeling that the room was spinning vertically. It scared me. I fell back onto my bed in a seated position and grabbed onto the sheet in order to avoid falling either forwards or backwards. It passed away in a minute or two. I was surprised but waved it away and went about my day as normal. I went to the loo, brushed my teeth, shaved, showered and had a light breakfast. I went out to get some money, go to buy some groceries, buy some beer and then had a quick lunch at Dominos.

I came back home and I tried to watch some movie but I fell asleep. When I woke up 90 minutes or so later, I had the same dizziness. I had coffee and then told my family. My sister came here and picked me up and we went to the hospital. Being a Sunday evening I could only see the casualty doctors. They said it would have to be vertigo and gave me a medicine. They took blood and an ECG and then sent me home, asking me to see the general physician the next day. I went home and after dinner took more of the medicine. The next morning it was a bit less but it was still there and I saw the physician.

He said that I have BPPV and took my BP as well. He gave me medicines for a week and asked me to take some rest and come back in a week. I asked for a leave on Monday and then asked for a work shift that is a bit earlier as it would be better for me. Also I have been given a medicine for my allergies which causes drowsiness and that is a problem as I am supposed to take it a bit after dinner. So it has now been a week and on Monday I will go again to see the doctor. I have had the dizziness every morning though it has been decreasing in intensity but I am still very scared. I also seem to be having a heavy head. Odd sensation and sometimes feel a bit nauseous.

Let’s see what the doc says on Monday.
