Replacing Your Front Door With A New One

Everyone knows the importance of making a good first impression and extends to the front door of your house. Properly maintained, a quality door can last for decades, but there comes a time when it makes more sense to replace it than to repair it. Buying a new front door is an important investment to your home. If you’re trying to figure out whether or not that time has come for your entryway, take a close look and ask yourself the following questions:

• Is your front door weathered, scratched, or dented?
• Are there cracks or breaks along the door’s edges or within its panels?
• Does the door let in drafts?
• Have you encountered difficulty getting the door to hang level on its hinges?
• Is it often a hassle to close and lock the door?

Can you replace it yourself? You can replace any exterior door in your home without removing the jamb if the jamb is in good shape and not out of square. You just need the same size of door without the hinge cutouts. You don’t need special tools, you can cut the hinge mortise with a chisel and a hammer.

Out of 11,916 projects analyzed by HomeAdvisor, the average cost of replacing a front door was between $477 and $1,389, for an overall average of $916. The lowest price reported by a homeowner was $100, while the highest price reported was $4,200.

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga is a 2020 American romantic musical fantasy comedy film directed by David Dobkin, written by Will Ferrell and Andrew Steele, and starring Will Ferrell, Rachel McAdams, Dan Stevens, Melissanthi Mahut, Mikael Persbrandt, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Graham Norton, Demi Lovato, and Pierce Brosnan. The film follows the personally close Icelandic singers Lars Erickssong and Sigrit Ericksdóttir as they are given the chance to represent their country at the Eurovision Song Contest. The Story of Fire Saga was initially scheduled for a May 2020 release to coincide with the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 contest was cancelled, and the film was subsequently released a month later, on June 26, on Netflix.

The Story of Fire Saga received mixed reviews from critics (who praised the original music but criticised the two-hour runtime), but had a positive reception from many Eurovision fans. The film received a nomination for Best Original Song at the 93rd Academy Awards (for “Husavik”).

Arsenal 5 Sunderland 1

Eddie Nketiah continued his prolific form in the Carabao Cup with a clinical hat-trick as Arsenal saw off League One Sunderland to book their spot in the semi-finals. The forward turned in from close range to open the scoring after Rob Holding’s header was palmed into his path and Nicolas Pepe soon doubled the hosts’ lead. That looked to have put the Gunners in control only for Sunderland to hit back when Nathan Broadhead coolly clipped over the onrushing Bernd Leno from Elliot Embleton’s superbly-weighted pass. But Nketiah cleverly turned in a low Nuno Tavares cross straight after the break to re-establish the lead. The 22-year-old saved his best until last, though, flicking Pepe’s pass between his legs and beyond goalkeeper Lee Burge.

Arsenal’s 18-year-old debutant Charlie Patino then capped a superb night for the Gunners with an injury-time fifth at Emirates Stadium. Sunderland were competitive but, despite Embleton curling against a post from distance, the visitors struggled to contain their top-flight hosts and it was a comfortable victory for Mikel Arteta’s men. Arsenal will discover their last-four opponents on Wednesday when the draw takes place after Tottenham host West Ham. Arteta celebrated his two-year anniversary as Arsenal boss on Monday and, while he has already delivered silverware in the form of the 2019-20 FA Cup, it feels for the first time like the Spaniard is beginning to see his desired philosophy take hold. Without the distraction of European football, the Gunners are fourth in the top flight and can now look forward to a cup semi-final too.

Despite having Albert Sambi Lokonga, Pablo Mari and Calum Chambers missing after positive Covid tests, and Ainsley Maitland-Niles absent with illness, Arteta was still able to make nine changes from the side that beat Leeds 4-1. League Cup specialist Nketiah was one of those to come in and produced a goalscoring performance that will have him knocking on the door for more first-team involvement. The forward has now scored five in three games on Arsenal’s run to the last four, but has only seen 38 minutes of Premier League action this season and reportedly turned down a new contract, with his current deal ending in the summer. Nketiah netted all three of his goals from around the six-yard box as the poacher bundled in the opener with his knee, got across his marker to steer Tavares’ whipped ball in for his second and then added a delightful third.

Pepe got Arsenal’s second in the 27th minute, finishing smartly after combining down the right with Cedric Soares, and it seemed Arsenal were cruising, only for Sunderland to respond four minutes later. Embleton had almost scored a bizarre own goal earlier, diverting a pass onto his own crossbar, but measured an excellent pass into Broadhead’s path for the Everton loanee to finish a swift break. That was the first time Arsenal had conceded in the competition this season and they seized control after the restart as Nketiah completed his treble in the 58th minute. That allowed Arteta to bring on highly-rated teenager Patino, born during the Gunners’ Invincibles season of 2003-04, and the midfielder slotted into the corner from Pepe’s ball just 11 minutes into his first senior appearance.

3D Wall Panels For Home Interiors

3D wall panels are a type of decorative wall material with three-dimensional surface patterns and rectangular shape. They’re used to cover walls, making up visible or exposed wall surfaces. Designed for decorative and functional use, wall panels offer soundproofing and insulation, atop giving a uniform appearance. Wall panels are built for durability and ease of installation and replacement. Buying beautiful 3D wall panels is a good idea for holiday shopping. Although they’re available in varied sizes, the maximum dimension for commercially available panels is 2700mm x 600mm to enable easy transportation.

Designed to eliminate the need for adding a finishing material on walls or applying paint, 3D wall panels give a consistent appearance and reduce costs of construction. The panels are usually finished on a single side only because they’re often installed on concrete walls or bricks with rough surfaces. The panels can also be assembled to a proper framework for use as walls. It’s possible to drill holes into 3D wall panels for wiring and installation of electrical outlets. The versatile panels can be made from different materials for installation in residential or commercial (shopping centers, hotels, retail space, offices, hospitality) buildings.

The 3D wall panels are made from high performance and durable polystyrene material with a minimum thickness of 100mm. It proffers low absorption levels and excellent prevention against moisture and condensation on the walls making it suitable for both interior and exterior usage. It is a good way to decorate the interiors of your home and give it a different look.

Should You Interlock Your Backyard?

Backyard interlocking services make your home more comfortable. Interlocking pavers are also extremely durable. If they are properly cared for, they can last for decades. Paving stones can be covered with a protective seal which helps to prevent discoloration and chipping. We have even seen interlocking pavers that have lasted without any repairs for 40 years! Although stamped concrete is not as expensive, if you’re looking for something high-quality, interlocking stone is the best option. Interlock pavers, while typically more expensive, yield longer-lasting, higher-quality results.

Interlocking tend to be more expensive as the labour required is more extensive than the others since each individual stone needs to be placed. Re-paving your existing backyard or getting a freshly paved backyard is a great way to increase the overall look of your home. If you are planning to do it yourself, building an interlocking patio is like any other DIY project – without proper planning at the beginning, you’re setting yourself up for a complicated process.

Decide on the shape of your patio, and whether you want to keep it simple or achieve a more intricate design. Some popular backyard patio styles would be:

  • keeping everything modern with straight lines and 90 degree corners;
  • having it in the shape of a circle or kidney; or
  • going with a random shaped patio.

Bear in mind that curved patios can cost more on the labour and wasted material as everything will need to be cut manually.  Also, where there are curved cuts, you will notice more imperfections.

Choosing Fiberglass Doors For Homes

A fiberglass door is made of compression-molded fiberglass. The compacting of this strong material gives a door ample durability without losing the needed flexibility and visual appeal. Fiberglass can be compression-molded into almost any shape, so it is an excellent material for entry doors, which look better if they match the look and feel of a home. Fiberglass doors might be a little expensive, but they add more wood texture. When used for a front door, the manufacturer creates the two sides of the door separately and places them on a frame. They then fill the hollow between the two pieces with a household-safe, highly-insulating foam core. Some of the most popular fiberglass entry doors have a wood grain-like texture, so when painted, they give the illusion of a much more expensive solid hardwood front door.

Fiberglass doors work well in almost any climate, even extreme cold and damp conditions. Unlike wood, fiberglass doors do not warp, crack, or rot. And unlike steel, the doors don’t rust, scratch, or corrode. Fiberglass is built to last and will not require yearly re-finishing to stay in top shape. For a stylish door that looks like wood but isn’t as hard to maintain, fiberglass is worth considering. Fiberglass can closely mimic many wood grains, such as cherry, oak and mahogany, creating a beautiful appearance. Fiberglass usually comes prepainted or stained to achieve a unique, customized look. In a reasonably protected location, a fiberglass exterior door will never need painting or staining and can last 15 to 20 years.

Although it feels lighter than wood or steel, it is extremely durable and features an extremely durable coating that is difficult to breach. In terms of price, fiberglass exterior doors fall between wood and steel. Most models that are sold at the big box stores range in price from $150 to $600. Though this material is considered as the best material for the front door, still, it gets hot in summer and cold in winter. Fiberglass is secure as the steel doors and it offers better insulation than wood and steel.

Pets Are Family – No Questions About It

Do you think pets are part of a family? Why or why not?
What a question? Pets are family! They are part of your family, they are brought to your homes to make them even more loving and brighter. Well I suppose there are some people who do not consider pets to be family and are just animals you keep around because they entertain either you or the kids or maybe both. I do not want to see people in that camp. I want you to see pets as part of your family. They might not be related to you by blood but a cat or dog especially will make your family that much more loving. I also believe that it is very advisable and even sensible to have dogs or cats at home when you have kids. Like from the age of 8 or 9 atleast. The kids will grow up not just loving the pet but they also learn to take care of them, nurturing the caregiver instincts that are there in us humans.

I have had 2 cats for a while – Chocolate & Lollipop – and then ofcourse I had Shawny my golden Retriever for 11 years. You think I don’t miss them? The cats came into my life when I was 12 and died before I turned 17. I got Shawny when I was 18 and she passed away when I was about to turn 29. For a year at age 29-30 I also took care of Junior Shawny who was a black Labrador & Dalmatian mix, and who actually belonged to my sister & brother-in-law. That dog also passed away I think around 2013-2014. While I had restrictions for the dogs, the cats had the run of the house. Do you think a day goes by without me wishing I had those 4 back in my life and all at the same time? My life would be so much better.

In dreams – I can always dream of those futuristic dreams, can’t I – I have these 4 pets and a loving wife and 3 kids. 1 daughter who is about 12, fraternal twins who are a boy and a girl aged 9. And we have some robots to help us and who are part of the family as well. And in this futuristic world, my family and I are going off into deep space in a spaceship that kinda looks like a big home on the inside. After we take off, it’s bed time and I’m shooting a vlog about where the kids and animals sleep. Chocolate, the mostly ginger male cat, sleeps in the same room as my 12 year old daughter, right at the foot of her bed. Shawny Junior sleeps with my 9 year old daughter, while Lollipop the female mostly white sleeps in the bedroom of my son. And ofcourse, Shawny sleeps with me and my wife in our bedroom, snuggled up in the blankets at the end of our bed.

That’s family!

Winter Solstice : The Shortest Day Of The Year

The winter solstice, also called the hiemal solstice, hibernal solstice, and brumal solstice, occurs when either of Earth’s poles reaches its maximum tilt away from the Sun. This happens twice yearly, once in each hemisphere (Northern and Southern). For that hemisphere, the winter solstice is the day with the shortest period of daylight and longest night of the year, when the Sun is at its lowest daily maximum elevation in the sky. Either pole experiences continuous darkness or twilight around its winter solstice. The opposite event is the summer solstice. Depending on the hemisphere’s winter solstice, at the Tropic of Cancer or Capricorn, the Sun reaches 90° below the observer’s horizon at solar midnight, to the nadir.

This year, the astronomical winter season lasts until spring starts on Sunday 20 March 2021, the date of the vernal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. Under the meteorological definition, which splits the year into four seasons of three full months each based on the Gregorian calendar, winter starts on 1 December every year. There’s not an exact recorded time when humans first started observing the solstice, but monuments like ChichĂ©n Itzá, Stonehenge, and the Goseck circle indicate that people have been honoring the astronomical seasons for years. The origins of Christmas trees and wreaths can be found in the 12-day pagan holiday of “Yule”, which centred around the solstice.

The festival was observed by the early Germanic peoples of Northern Europe, who gathered to celebrate the the revival of the sun bringing brighter times ahead. Celtic druids would mark the winter solstice with the cutting of mistletoe and lighting a “yule log”, believed to banish darkness and evil spirits. The ancient Roman festival of Saturnalia is perhaps the most closely linked with the modern celebration of Christmas. This festival happened around the time of the winter solstice and celebrated the end of the planting season. There were games and feasts and gift-giving for several days, and social order was inverted—slaves did not work and were briefly treated as equals.

Leeds United 1 Arsenal 4

Two goals from Gabriel Martinelli helped Arsenal sweep past an injury-hit Leeds at Elland Road to secure their third successive Premier League victory. Martinelli’s double and Bukayo Saka’s deflected effort made it 3-0 before half-time as the Gunners ruthlessly capitalised on an error-strewn Leeds performance. Raphinha pulled one back from the penalty spot in the second half, before Arsenal substitute Emile Smith Rowe wrapped up an emphatic victory for Mikel Arteta’s side late on. “I think we did our job and we played so well. It was a great performance,” Martinelli told BBC Sport. “I was trying to score more but the most important thing is the victory.”

The scoreline could have been greater but for an impressive performance by Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier, who made fine stops to deny Saka, Alexandre Lacazette, Thomas Partey and Kieran Tierney. On Christmas Day last year Arsenal were 15th in Premier League and only four points above relegation zone. Twelve months on and they are guaranteed to be in the top four on 25 December for the first time in five years. Mikel Arteta is looking to build his side around a core group of young players and the fact all four goals were scored by players aged 21 or under suggests that policy is starting to bear fruit. They were helped by some sloppy Leeds defending, but the Gunners front four of Saka, Martinelli, Martin Odegaard and Lacazette ruthlessly capitalised on any mistakes. They managed 11 shots on target in the first half, the most by any side in the opening 45 minutes of a Premier League match since Opta started registering such statistics in 2003-04.

All this was achieved without striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was left out of the squad following a disciplinary breach. Martinelli is one of the players to benefit from Aubameyang’s absence, starting five successive Premier League games for the first time in his Gunners career. For Leeds, the defeat caps a difficult week that has included a last-gasp defeat at Chelsea and 7-0 hammering at Manchester City, though their cause has not been helped by a crippling injury list which has now robbed boss Marcelo Bielsa of 10 players. If little could be done to prevent their long casualty list, their problems on the pitch were largely of their own making. Leeds players were guilty of repeatedly giving the ball away in dangerous areas, with only the impressive Meslier preventing Arsenal from scoring more. They showed spirit to fight their way back into the game in the second half, and the Elland Road crowd continued to loudly back the players and manager Bielsa.

What Are Some Of Your Favorite Holiday Season Traditions?

What are some of your favorite traditions during the holiday season?
I have absolutely no traditions during the December holiday season. I work though the entire month, unless I am unwell and have to take a couple of days leave.  I think last year it was pretty great as both the 25th of December & the 1st of Jan were on Fridays and hence we got 2 three day weekends which was awesome to have. This month no such luck.

I do like to have some good meals during this time of the year, instead of just the usual burgers and pizzas or fried chicken. Like some Chinese noodles with pork and chicken or prawns. Or perhaps some tandoori chicken, butter chicken and naan. I will also want to want a bunch of movies and if possible some movies set in the snow of not the holiday season. I dunno why but since I do not get snow here in Kerala and I associate the holiday season with snow and firewood and hot chocolate with marshmallows, I atleast want to see that in my movies. And again, if possible, I also want to watch a few holiday themed episodes from Frasier & Friends.

Other than that, I won’t be doing much and I haven’t done much in years gone by. I guess in the 80s & 90s I used to go shopping with my family and sometimes my cousins. Going to the main commercial areas and seeing the decorations and layouts of the various shops and stalls and people going about looking for the best deals and things to buy for their family. That’s a nice feeling but I haven’t been doing that in ages. And I don’t think that I will be doing that any time soon.

Why Do Fellow Indians Post The Dumbest Questions On Quora?

I love social media and I am very active on Facebook & Youtube but a little less on Twitter. Recently, I think mainly in the last 2 months or so, I have been very active on Quora. Quora – if you didn’t know – s a place to gain and share knowledge. It’s a platform to ask questions and connect with people who contribute unique insights and quality answers. So if you had some questions on a particular subject on anything, you can ask about it. Be it literature, politics, science, medicine, science fiction, sports, religion, atheism, festivals, mythology, etc etc.

What I have noticed is that there are some really bad questions out there. They assume so much and ask the stupid questions that we have heard a lot and have shown it to be silly many times over – but they are still out there. If it comes from a place of genuine unawareness and ignorance and they want to learn I guess it’s a good thing but a lot of them aren’t and it is really bad. And Indians in particular are so bad at it. Why are a lot of my fellow Indians asking the most obvious questions that are so obviously just to increase the number of questions that is asked from them? It is so obvious when an Indian is asking what is the reason for a religious festival that is so huge in India and everyone knows what is is about?

Or things that are easily answered via google? Like on what date will Christmas or Diwali be in a particular year? Or the reason for this or that – Google this stuff? If you have access to the internet you have access to Google. And everyone who has access to internet is aware of Google, especially in India (just in case Bing or something else like Yahoo is more popular in another country). But no – they just want to increase the number of questions their account has asked. I respect the genuine ones not the ones I am seeing on a regular basis.

Arsenal 2 West Ham United 0

Arsenal overtook opponents West Ham and moved into fourth place in the Premier League by winning an eventful match at Emirates Stadium. Gabriel Martinelli scored the opener early in the second half before substitute Emile Smith Rowe confirmed victory for the Gunners late on. Arsenal captain Alexandre Lacazette also had a penalty saved by goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski in the second half. West Ham’s Vladimir Coufal was sent off for a second booking in conceding the penalty as he was judged to have fouled Lacazette in the box.

Coufal had been booked in the first half when his flailing arm caught defender Kieran Tierney in the face, inciting protest from the Arsenal players. Tierney later hit the crossbar, while there were further chances for Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel as Arsenal were the better side throughout. The significance of this result on the league standings was felt in an intense and feisty encounter. Coufal’s unintentional foul on Tierney in the first half incited protest from Arsenal’s players, before referee Anthony Taylor quickly defused the situation with a yellow card. A few heavy tackles followed before Taylor had to speak with Arsenal’s coaching staff near the touchline. The hosts began to dominate on the field though – as well as Tierney’s strike clipping the crossbar, West Ham centre-back Craig Dawson was forced to make numerous blocks.

Saka was Arsenal’s biggest threat down the right and he was involved in the build-up to Tierney’s effort, before he teed up Lacazette’s shot which was parried into the path of Martinelli and poked inches wide. In the second half, Saka himself came close too, while West Ham’s best chances fell to Pablo Fornals and Jarrod Bowen – neither really troubling goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. The sending off of Coufal – which West Ham understandably felt was unjust – did not make too much difference and despite a late surge from the visitors, Arsenal were able to see it off through Smith Rowe’s late goal.

Netflix Slashes It’s Prices Across Plans In India

Streaming giant Netflix has reduced its prices in India across all plans. Prices now start from Rs 149, instead of Rs 199. This price cut comes amid stiff competition from other streaming platforms that offer their plans for a significantly lower amount than Netflix. The 25 per cent price cut across its four plans in India is the second time the streaming giant has slashed prices in the country. Netflix launched its cheapest plan for India at Rs 199 per month in July 2019, which industry experts said led to attracting subscribers on the streaming platform.

The cheapest plan Netflix was for mobile-and-tablet-only viewing for Rs 199, which has been slashed to Rs 149. The basic plan, which can be viewed across mobile phone, tablet, computer and TV, has been slashed to Rs 199 per month from the earlier Rs 499. The standard plan that can be watched across all the four kinds of devices but has better video quality and 1080p resolution is now available for Rs 499 instead of the earlier Rs 649 per month. The top tier plan or the premium which is also available across the four kinds of devices but has the best video quality with 4K + HDR video quality is now available for Rs 649 per month instead of Rs 799.

The price cut also comes as the American streaming giant has been announcing a host of new titles, international and Indian, such as Red Notice, The Harder They Fall, and The Princess Switch, etc. Meanwhile, competition like Disney+ Hotstar offers their premium plan at Rs 1,499 annually. Amazon Prime Video membership is priced at Rs 1,499 annually. The price cut comes even as arch rival Amazon Prime has increased its annual plan from Rs 999 to Rs 1,499. The gap is narrowing as the most basic Netflix mobile-only plan now works out to about Rs 1,800 a year. But Amazon Prime offers other add-on features such as free delivery and a music service.

Research firm Media Partners Asia in January this year, said Netflix is estimated to have 5 million subscribers in India with rival Amazon Prime Video commanding 17 million paid users. As per another report by the research firm, Netflix commands 14% of India’s total online video revenue market while Amazon takes up 7%.
