6 Benefits Of Eating Avocados

1. Rich in nutrients

Avocados are a source of vitamins C, E, K, and B6, as well as riboflavin, niacin, folate, pantothenic acid,  magnesium, and potassium. They also provide lutein, beta carotene, and omega-3 fatty acids. Avocados contain high levels of healthy, beneficial fats, which can help a person feel fuller between meals. Eating fat slows the breakdown of carbohydrates, which helps keep blood sugar levels stable.

2. Healthy for the heart

In every 100 g of avocado there are 76 milligrams of a natural plant sterol called beta sitosterol. Regularly consuming beta sitosterol and other plant sterols may help maintain healthy cholesterol levels, which are important for heart health.

3. Great for vision

Avocados contain lutein and zeaxanthin, two phytochemicals present in eye tissue. They provide antioxidant protection to help minimize damage, including from UV light. The monounsaturated fatty acids in avocados also support the absorption of other beneficial fat-soluble antioxidants, such as beta carotene. As a result, adding avocados to the diet may help reduce the risk of developing age-related macular degeneration.

4. May help prevent osteoporosis

Half an avocado provides approximately 18% of the daily value of vitamin K. This nutrient is often overlooked but is essential for bone health. Taking in enough vitamin K can support bone health by increasing calcium absorption and reducing the urinary excretion of calcium.

5. Components may prevent cancer

Studies have not yet assessed a direct link between avocado consumption and a reduction in cancer risk. However, avocados do contain compounds that may help prevent the onset of some cancers. Research has associated an optimal intake of folate with a reduced risk of developing colon, stomach, pancreatic, and cervical cancers. However, the mechanism behind this association remains unclear. Half of an avocado contains roughly 59 mcg of folate, 15% of the daily value.

Avocados also contain high levels of phytochemicals and carotenoids, which may have anticancer properties. Studies have shown that carotenoids, specifically, may protect against cancer progression.

6. Supporting fetal health

Folate is important for a healthy pregnancy. Adequate intake reduces the risk of miscarriage and neural tube abnormalities. Consume at least 600 micrograms (mcg) of folate per day when pregnant. One avocado may contain as much as 160 mcg. Avocados also contain fatty acids that are integral to a healthy diet and fetal development.

Specialized Oil And Gas Fibreglass

So much of our lives are built around oil and gas. Millions of people everywhere rely on these resources in order to heat their homes, help them get from point A to Point B, and so much more. There are a number of benefits to using fiberglass in oil and gas production and knowing the specialized oil and gas fiberglass components.

Fibreglass or glassfibre is material made from¬†extremely fine fibers of glass. It is used as a reinforcing agent for many polymer products; the resulting composite material, properly known as fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) or glass-reinforced plastic (GRP), is called “fibreglass” in popular usage. Fiberglass is a strong, lightweight material that can be used to make pipes and other equipment that is resistant to corrosion. Additionally, it can be used to help seal off areas around wells and other production infrastructure in order to prevent leaks. Finally, fiberglass can also be burned as fuel in certain applications, making it a versatile material for the oil and gas industry.

Fiberglass is used extensively in the oil and gas industry as a means of preventing corrosion. It can be found in everything from production tubing to flow lines and separators. Glass-reinforced plastics are also used to produce house building components such as roofing laminate, door surrounds, over-door canopies, window canopies and dormers, chimneys, coping systems, and heads with keystones and sills. The use of fiberglass helps to protect metal surfaces from the extreme conditions that are often found in these environments. The glass fibers form a barrier that prevents corrosive fluids from coming into direct contact with the metal, which can cause severe damage over time.

Five Fun Facts About The Slurpee

The Slurpee was invented by accident

In 1959, the soda fountain in Omar S. Knedlik‚Äôs Kansas Dairy Queen franchise was often malfunctioning, so he started storing his soda in the freezer instead. Customers loved the semi-frozen pop (the high sugar content means that the soda does not completely freeze), and began requesting it.  Realizing he had a slushy phenomenon on his hands, Knedlik began tinkering with a car air conditioner and eventually created an all-in-one machine that could create the drinks. He called it the ICEE. But that was just the beginning of Slurpee‚Äôs invention story.

What’s in a name?

The ICEE Company, which first distributed Knedlik‚Äôs ICEE drink, allowed businesses to license a specified number of ICEE dispensing machines and own exclusive distribution rights in their territories. One of these businesses was 7-Eleven, which started using the ‚ÄúICEE machines‚ÄĚ in their store, with drinks of the same name.

However, executives soon decided they would brand the drinks as a new product. In a May 1966 brainstorming session with 7-Eleven‚Äôs ad agency, director Bob Stanford was drinking the product through a straw when he commented that it made a ‚Äúslurp‚ÄĚ sound as it was coming through the straw, and the Slurpee was born. By the 1970s, there was a Slurpee machine in every 7-Eleven in the country.

What’s your flavor?

Although there have been over 300 flavors of Slurpee sold worldwide, including in Canada, Australia, and Japan, the most popular flavors in the U.S. are Coca-Cola and Wild Cherry. Limited-time flavors have included Peach Perfect, Major Melon (Mountain Dew with watermelon), a lemonade-flavored collaboration with Vitaminwater called Squeezed, and many more!

Some Slurpee lovers like to DIY their drink by mixing together different flavors, such as Lemonade and Blue Raspberry. There’s even an extreme version, where you mix a little of every flavor together to make a monster Slurpee!

Slurpee revolutionized the straw

If you’ve ever tried to drink a milkshake through a regular straw, you know the struggle. Slurpees, with their thick, icy chunks, are even more challenging. In 1968, MIT mechanical engineering grad Arthur A. Aykanian invented the spoon straw: a straw with a little spoon on the end so you can sip and spoon with just one utensil.

Over the years, 7-Eleven has had various novelty straws including edible candy straws, animal straws, tongue straws, and mustache straws, while some have switched to biodegradable or paper straws.

The Slurpee Capital of the World may surprise you

You might not think of our neighbors to the chilly north, Canada, as lovers of the world‚Äôs iciest drink. But in 2019, Manitoba was crowned the Slurpee Capital of the World‚Ķ for the twentieth year in a row. Apparently, they serve them at summer weddings, at winter football games, to new mothers, and for breakfast year-round‚ÄĒwhen you arrive at the airport in Winnipeg, your friends and family might even greet you with a Slurpee. That‚Äôs some Slurpee love! Remember, Free Slurpee Day is July 11!

Recovering From The Coronavirus

So it has been a week since I fell sick and have been on leave from work. I was on my own for a couple of days until my sister brought my parents back to the apartment (she has to leave town for work for a the weekend) and then it was the three of us but my mother had recovered quite quickly. We’ve been resting at home and avoiding other people, making and eating simple meals and getting the basics delivered with avoiding contact.

I’ve cut my coffee drinking to just 2 large cups a day though and I’ve been taking my medicines and cough syrup. I don’t eat much food but find that I can enjoy an apple as usual. I usually get up at around 9:30 am or 10 am and after brushing my teeth and washing my face, I get coffee and relax in front of my laptop for football news. I then have a light breakfast and relax until lunch time. I will try to blog or keep myself occupied by watching vlogs or music on Youtube.

Post lunch I will get back in bed and watch tv and or nap. Evening I will have some biscuits and coffee and do inhalation and continue to entertain myself until dinner time. Post dinner and medicine, I will continue to be online until I feel tired enough to lie down and watch some more tv before falling asleep. And the cycle starts again.

5 Tried & Tested Ways To Promote Your Blog

Share your blog on social media : This is likely not your first time hearing about¬†social media promotion. Sharing your blog post on social media will always be one of the best ways to promote your content. Of course, you’ll want to take the time to cultivate a strong social media presence, and ensure you aren’t posting swipe-up links to your content daily. Instead, try creating a diverse¬†social media content calendar¬†with a variety of engaging posts, and have 3-4 a month drive traffic to a new or relevant blog post.Even if a social media post doesn’t explicitly mention a blog post, you can still aim to increase followers on your social media accounts, and over time, those followers will become naturally curious and take a look at your blog for themselves. Additionally, try leveraging a¬†social media automation tool¬†that helps you share and manage all your social media accounts from one dashboard.

Answer questions on Quora : Quora is one of the best platforms for engaging with people that might be interested in topics you discuss on your blog. And, as a new blogger, Quora can be a great promotion opportunity. Create a Quora account and make it a daily obligation to go on Quora and answer questions relating to your niche. Don’t simply copy-and-paste your blog URL into each Quora answer, though, which can come across as spammy and might even get you blocked on Quora. Instead, try to genuinely help Quora users with useful answers, and simply keep the URL of your blog on your profile for users to find on their own if they’d like.

Post on subreddits: Subreddits on Reddit are another good place for sharing your knowledge with a ready audience looking for more information on a topic. Just like Quora, Subreddits are topics in which you can join and add to the conversation. This is another way of sharing your post and building your influence.

Guest post on popular blogs : Guest posting is one of the oldest marketing techniques around, and it’s still as effective as ever. Guest posting requires you to reach out to similar blogs in your niche and then pitch ideas for them to publish to their blog. This is a win-win for the two parties involved ‚ÄĒ it provides a high-quality, unique piece of content for the blog host, while giving you a backlink to your own website. However, guest blogging isn’t easy and requires a lot of work. Other than sending outreach emails to the bloggers in your niche, you also need to take the time to craft high-quality guest blog posts. To do this on a larger scale, you will need to hire freelance writers that can help you write the blog post while you conduct the outreach process.

Network on related or similar blogs : Many bloggers have neglected to leave a comment on other blogs simply because they believe it won’t affect their SEO rankings. And yes ‚ÄĒ they’re right, it won’t. But the benefits of leaving a comment on another, related blog are still worthwhile. Leaving a comment on another blog can help you get on the radar of other bloggers in your industry, and begin cultivating relationships within your community. While admittedly small, this is still a potential avenue for getting your name out there without spending money or sacrificing too much time.

Some Facts About The Tyrannosaurus Rex

1. Not the Biggest Meat-Eating Dinosaur

Most people assume that the North American¬† Tyrannosaurus rex‚ÄĒat 40 feet from head to tail and seven to nine tons‚ÄĒwas the biggest carnivorous dinosaur that ever lived.¬†T. rex, however, was equaled or outclassed by not one but two dinosaurs: the South American¬†Giganotosaurus, which weighed about nine tons, and the northern African¬†Spinosaurus, which tipped the scales at 10 tons. These three theropods never had the chance to square off in combat, since they lived in different times and places, separated by¬†millions of years and thousands of miles.

2. Arms Not as Tiny as Once Thought

One feature of¬†Tyrannosaurus rex¬†that everyone makes fun of is its¬†arms, which seem disproportionately tiny compared to the rest of its massive body.¬†T. rex’s¬†arms were over three feet long, however, and may have been capable of bench pressing 400 pounds each. In any event,¬†T. rex¬†didn’t have the smallest arm-to-body ratio among carnivorous dinosaurs; that was the¬†Carnotaurus, whose arms looked like tiny nubs.

3. Very Bad Breath

The dinosaurs of the Mesozoic Era¬†obviously didn’t brush their teeth or floss. Some experts think shards of rotten, bacteria-infested meat constantly lodged in its closely packed teeth gave¬†Tyrannosaurus rex¬†a “septic bite,” which infected and eventually killed its wounded prey. This process likely would have taken days or weeks, by which time some other meat-eating dinosaur would have reaped the rewards.

4. Females Bigger Than Males

There’s a good reason to believe, based on fossils and the shapes of the hips, that the female¬†T. rex¬†outweighed the male by a few thousand pounds.¬†The likely reason for this¬†trait, known as¬†sexual dimorphism, is that females had to lay clutches of¬†T. rex-size eggs and were blessed by evolution with bigger hips. Or maybe females were more accomplished hunters than males, as is the case with modern female lions.

5. Lived About 30 Years

It’s difficult to infer a dinosaur’s¬†life span¬†from its fossils, but based on analysis of existing specimens, paleontologists speculate that¬†Tyrannosaurus rex¬†may have lived as long as 30 years. Because this dinosaur was atop the food chain, it would most likely have died from old age, disease, or hunger rather than attacks by fellow theropods, except when it was young and vulnerable. Some of the 50-ton¬†titanosaurs¬†that lived alongside¬†T. rex¬†might have had life spans of more than 100 years.

6. Both Hunters and Scavengers

For years, paleontologists argued about whether¬†T. rex¬†was a¬†savage killer or an opportunistic scavenger‚ÄĒthat is, did it hunt its food or¬†tuck into the carcasses of dinosaurs already felled by old age or disease? Current thinking is that there’s no reason¬†Tyrannosaurus rex¬†couldn’t have done both, as would any carnivore that wanted to avoid starvation.

7. Hatchlings Possibly Covered in Feathers

It’s accepted as fact that¬†dinosaurs evolved into birds¬†and that some carnivorous dinosaurs (especially¬†raptors) were covered in feathers. Some paleontologists believe that all tyrannosaurs, including¬†T. rex, were covered in feathers at some point during their lives, most likely when they hatched, a conclusion supported by the discovery of feathered Asian tyrannosaurs such as¬†Dilong¬†and the almost¬†T. rex-size¬†Yutyrannus.

Boredom Busters As Kids? What’s That?

Share your favorite boredom busters for kids

I can honestly say this; as a kid I was rarely bored. For most of my childhood, until I was 16 we didn’t even have cable tv! Internet/broadband came to India around 1996 when I was 20 but it would be another 10 years before I actually got a connection at home. So until then when did us kids do? Well for one we had a fun time at home and when we had our days off we had fun times with our cousins.

During the evenings and weekends, I read or played music. We only had two tv channels until cable came in but we rarely got an English movies on it. We did get a handful of tv shows on it but we were dependent on VHS tapes we rent out to watch our movies. That ofcourse was only during the weekends; my sister and I would pick them up on Friday evening and then watch a couple during the weekend. And I read a lot and we had membership at a couple of libraries and ofcourse we also had our own little collection of novels.

And ofcourse music. We both loved music a lot and my sister and I each had our own stereo systems and walkmans. I played mostly rock and blues while she was more pop. But with all of that who had time to get bored?

Nearby locals believe that anyone who goes into the fort after dark won’t make it back, so visit at your own peril.

2. Kuldhara Village, Rajasthan

Rajasthan sure does have the choicest selection of deserted ghostly villages and towns! The Kuldhara village is located near Jaisalmer and was originally inhabited by Paliwal Brahmins. The lore speaks of the sudden disappearance of all the villagers of Kuldhara as well as 83 other nearby villages in 1825 into thin air, leaving no trace of their whereabouts. It is said that the minister of state had fallen in love with a girl from the village and had threatened to impose huge taxes upon the entire village unless they married her to him. To protect the honour of the girl, the chief of Kulhara and surrounding areas abandoned their villages and cursed the land to remain unoccupied for eternity.

3. Dow Hill, Kurseong, West Bengal

The Victoria Boy’s High School and Dowhill Girl’s Boarding School in Kurseong, Darjeeling, are believed to be the residence of many spirits whose footsteps can be heard echoing through the hallways. There have been countless murdered bodies found in the wood surrounding the schools and several locals and tourists report being followed by a headless boy who then disappears into the woods.

4. Dumas Beach, Gujarat

On the Arabian sea coast, the black sands of Dumas Beach in Gujarat are associated with several mysteries over several years. The beach used to be a Hindu burial ground and many believe that the restless spirits call out to visitors taking midnight strolls and walking towards the sea to return back to the shore. There have been reports that those who don’t heed the voices of the dead disappear into the waters forever. This beach is definitely not for the faint-hearted.

5. Jatinga, Assam

This tiny village with a population of 2500 has one of the most puzzling phenomena in the world, namely recurring mass bird suicides. For centuries now, local and migratory birds plummet to the ground in large numbers on moonless nights of September and October only on a specific area. This has baffled scientists who can’t find any reasonable justification for birds dropping dead from the sky in such a pattern and it is extremely disturbing to say the least.
