Juno

There was so much talk & hype about this movie that I was afraid that I would not like it. But now that I have seen it, I like the movie a lot. Especially Ellen Page, who I remember as this skinny short haired kid in the first season of ReGenesis. So Juno McDuff (Page) is this girl who gets unexpectedly pregnant by her long time friend Paulie Bleeker (Michael Cera), who is passively in love with Juno. After telling her father & step-mom (brilliantly done by Allison Janney), Juno decides to look for a suitable couple who can adopt the baby, with the help of her friend Leah (Olivia Thirlby). She finds, what seems like, the ideal loving couple in Mark and Vanessa Loring (Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner) and meets them at their house with her father. Juno finds a friend in Mark as he seems cool & down to earth, making a living creating commercial jingles. Vanessa is anxious as they had tried to adopt earlier but the girl backed out. She comes as being uptight but when Juno & Leah see Vanessa playing with a kid in the mall, they understand that she (Vanessa) would make a great mother. When Juno finds out that Bleeker asked another girl out for the prom, she feels let down and is quite upset. However Bleeker points out that Juno was the one who pushed him in that direction.

Upset, Juno heads out to see Mark at his house and while listening to music, he confesses that he isn’t ready to be a father yet and wants to divorce his wife. Soon Vanessa confronts Mark about his inability to grow up but then agrees for the divorce proceedings. Sad and distraught, Juno wants to go ahead with the adoption as long as Vanessa wants to. While speaking to her father about love and relationships, she understands that she really loves Bleeker and gets together with him.

A few weeks later Juno gives birth to a baby boy and Vanessa takes the baby to raise him as a single mother. On the wall in the baby’s new nursery, Vanessa has framed Juno’s note, which reads “Vanessa: If you’re still in, I’m still in. -Juno.” The film ends with Juno and Paulie playing guitar and singing together sometime later, followed by a kiss.

There’s something sweet about the entire movie and you can’t help but liking the characters, especially Juno. Cera is good as the dorky but sweet school kid, Janney is great as the concerned step-mom and Garner plays a low key role. Watch this one and fall in love with Juno.
