Six Benefits Of Adopting An Older Dog

1. Most older dogs have already been housebroken : It would be rare to find an adult dog that still needed to be housebroken, so right off the bat your new adult dog can enter your life without any of the mess or stress that comes with a puppy that isn’t housebroken.

2. Older dogs can form deep connections with you :

An older dog can bond with you just as deeply as a puppy. When you rescue an older dog it may feel like they instantly know that this fantastic new person has come to their rescue and changed their life forever. Older dogs are ready to love and are incredibly appreciative of the love you’re bringing into their life. You may notice your new adult dog only wants to be in the room that you’re in, and he’s always open to an impromptu cuddle session.

3. Adult dogs have probably been trained, and may be more receptive to new training

The amount of training your new adult dog has under his belt will vary, but no matter the amount, it’s all icing on the cake. Simple commands such as sit, and stay are most likely already in your dog’s arsenal, and if you’re lucky, your new dog will come leash-trained as well.

An older dog is also more receptive to learning new commands. Older dogs with prior training can be quicker to pick up on new command cues. With the firm bond you two share, there will be more concentration from your dog towards each one of your actions. This natural awareness will make your new dog much more receptive to learning new commands.

4. Older Dogs Have a Calmer Temperament : With age comes not only wisdom but also a more relaxed state of being for dogs. This may not true be for every dog. There will always be the ageless wonder who never wants to stop playing. For most dogs though, the older they get, the less exercise they need and the less energetic they are throughout the day. For seniors living a more relaxed lifestyle, adult dogs can make the perfect companions.

5. Older dogs have better manners than younger pups :  Dogs with calmer temperaments will often have better manners than youthful, more excitable dogs. When the UPS truck rolls up, an older adult dog may give it a sideways glance, rather than jump off the couch barking at the new intruder. Older dogs often have the benefit of being socialized previously with both other dogs and with other humans, making them more likely to have positive interactions in the future. Older dogs have also likely gone through some kind of obedience training, which should help make them more well-mannered.

6. You can bond with the dog you’ve always wanted : So, you’ve always wanted a purebred husky puppy but just cannot afford one. Well, guess what, an adult husky is sitting in a shelter somewhere right now waiting for you to come to adopt him or her. When adopting an older dog, you know in advance what to expect from their behavior, rather than rolling the dice with a younger dog without a fully developed personality. When you’re adopting an older dog, you also have the advantage of knowing their entire medical history in advance. Vaccinations have been taken care of, and vet trips should be less frequent than if you adopted a puppy.

Seven Weird & Strange Things That Happened In Uttar Pradesh

1. Couple marries after dating for two years. Gets divorced in under 12 hours.

In a very weird twist of things, a couple hailing from UP’s Hamirpur district got married to each other after going through a lot of ups and downs. However, even though they had been together for the last two years, their ‘happily forever’ ended in under 12 hours and they filed for divorce.

2. Man gets challenged to eat 50 eggs for Rs 2,000. Dies after the 42nd egg.

This one is sad yet extremely bizarre! A man from UP’s Jaunpur district got involved in an argument with a friend over how many eggs he can eat and they settled the number at 50 eggs. They bet Rs 2,000 on the same, but the man collapsed after consuming the 42nd egg. The hospital stated ‘overeating’ as the cause of his death.

3. Man gets challaned for not wearing a helmet… INSIDE A CAR!

Nothing can be more bizarre than the UP police fining a man for driving a car without wearing a helmet. A CAR! Hailing from Hamirput district, the man received an e-challan on his mobile for the same. The e-challan said that he had been fined by the authorities for not wearing a helmet while driving his four-wheeler vehicle.

4. Villagers mistake a saffron-painted toilet for a temple. Start praying.

If it gets out of hand, religion can make people do extremely unusual things. Just like when the people of Maudaha in Hamirpur district started praying to a public toilet, just because it was painted saffron. Not just this, this misinformed act went on for a whole year.

5. Drunk groom does the naagin dance. Bride refuses to marry him.

Everyone wants to have a presentable life partner and this bride from Mailani area of Lakhimpur Kheri, Bairely, didn’t want to settle. After witnessing her groom doing the naagin dance in a completely inebriated state, she flat out refused to get married to him.

6. Grandfather teaches grandkids “A for alcohol, B for beedi.” Makes them drink and smoke.

Children learn what their elders teach them but this grandfather from UP’s Bahadarpur area is teaching his grandchildren all the wrong things – things kids are supposed to be kept away from. In a video that surfaced online last year, the old man was seen giving out beedis and alcohol to minors, and telling them it was “nothing but juice.”

7. Men break into a beer shop. Party first before running away with more bottles.

A bunch of men broke into a liquor store in Kotwali to steal, but ended up partying inside the shop by drinking from the bottles and cans for hours. They ended their party by stealing 26 crates of beer. Even then, they weren’t done with their shenanigans and went on to rob the chambers of five lawyers.

A Look Back At The Month That Was : October 2022

  • Once again I have not gone out of the apartment the entire month. Aided in that was the fact that our building elevator had to get repaired and some parts needed to be replaced. This took 2 weeks and with my health issues, I did not want to walk up and down the 7 set of stairs. We were dependent on the young kids next door who offered to run up and down to get some supplies for us. We rewarded them with some sweets and chocolate.
  • Work has been somewhat hectic and as soon as Monday ends, I am ready for the weekend. I am tired and fed up of these multiple back to back training batches mainly due to the MIS work that comes along with it, increased 10 fold this year.
  • Having said that I did manage to get 2 days leave and then we immediately had, after a single day back at work, a 3 day weekend. Unfortunately I had plans on going out during that time but the elevator wasn’t fixed by then.
  • Last month I had made plans to watch Automan, Miss Marvel & She-Hulk but I still haven’t gotten round to doing that yet. I am on season 14 of CSI and with Season 3 of Star Trek : Lower Decks having ended, Star Trek Prodigy has just returned with the second part of their debut season.
  • It has now been 8 months since I had any alcohol and I miss it. I had a couple of beers in February but since then I haven’t been out and since I don’t have any stock at home nor can I order in, I have been dry as Gujarat!

Random Things Found On My Bed

Due to a lack of table space or bedside table/drawer space, I have bunch of stuff that I place on my bed during the day time and when I get into bed, I keep them on my big computer chair. This includes the following:

  • The cases for my phone and earpods – why because I have charges and spare ear pieces in them.
  • The case for my digital phone – same reason
  • A bottle of water for hydration
  • my inhaler and a space inhaler
  • bills that I must pay usually medicine or groceries and they keep changing once I have paid them
  • a strip of lozenges
  • dust wipes for my laptop, phone & spectacles
  • Vicks inhaler
  • a deodorant spray
  • a back scratcher

All this because I don’t have much space available. I wish I could get a new table in here. Or maybe a small bedside table. Things would be a lot more organized.

10 Rules For Kids Going Trick Or Treating On Halloween

Obey the Halloween code. This means only go to houses that are well lit and look like a Halloween friendly home. Try not to disturb anyone after 8 or 9 pm. And never go to a dark house – the code for any more trick-or-treating!

Respect personal property. Use the right path to the house and don’t jump through bushes and landscape to get to the door.

Only knock or ring the doorbell once. If no one comes to the door move on. They may be in a sticky situation and unable to answer the door.

Don’t forget to use the magic words – “Please” and “Thank you” are always appropriate while trick-or-treating!

No greedy grabber! Assume one piece of candy unless the house owner says otherwise. Respect the honor system if candy is left out on the porch. Again, don’t be a greedy grabber.

Safe Candy – Don’t eat anything unwrapped or home-made from strangers. Children (especially with allergies), please be careful with the candy and sort through with your parents.

Plan your route. Plan your route and remind your children about traffic safety. Visit a house only one time. Don’t go back for more! Stick to paths that you and your children are familiar with. Have a safe meeting place incase anyone gets lost from the group. Encourage all your children to WALK not run! Give a quick traffic safety reminder 101 –  cross the roads at crosswalks and corners. Always check left, right, and left again is always useful.

Sharing is caring. Be willing to share candy and trade with friends and respect your parent’s decision on how much candy to eat!

Bring lights! Wear reflective gear or necklaces. A flash light always helps–especially your child trips and all the Halloween candy falls out of the bag.

Test the Costume – Make sure that the costume is safe, comfortable and warm enough. Loose fitting clothes and oversized shoes can trip a little trick-or-treater. Avoid props that are sharp such as a sword or sticks. Decide on comfy shoes. And finally make sure that you can add layers and warmth if it gets colder.

Arsenal 5 Nottingham Forest 0

Arsenal bounced back from Thursday’s Europa League loss to PSV Eindhoven by returning to the top of the Premier League table with an emphatic win over Nottingham Forest. Gabriel Martinelli headed the Gunners in front early on before England’s Bukayo Saka – who set up the opener – was forced off with an injury. Reiss Nelson, Saka’s replacement, doubled the lead four minutes after the restart with his first Arsenal goal since November 2020 before quickly adding his second.

Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard goals added gloss to the scoreline as Arsenal restored their two-point lead over Manchester City at the summit, with Forest still bottom after an eighth defeat of the season. Saka was on the receiving end of Renan Lodi’s heavy challenge in the opening minute, and while he recovered to tee up Martinelli, the 21-year-old twice required treatment before being taken off in the 27th minute.

The sight of Saka heading straight down to the tunnel after being substituted will concern England fans just three weeks before the start of the World Cup, although Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said the winger would “hopefully not” be in danger of missing the tournament. While Saka looked bright before being withdrawn, Nelson seized an opportunity to shine on his first Premier League appearance since the opening match of last season.

The 22-year-old, who spent the 2021-22 campaign on loan at Feyenoord, put daylight between the teams when he fired home at the second attempt after Dean Henderson saved his initial shot. Having had to wait almost two years for an Arsenal goal, Nelson scored his second in the space of three minutes when he poked a Gabriel Jesus cross into the far corner. Nelson then turned provider, teeing up Partey, who lashed a superb right-footed shot into Henderson’s top corner before Odegaard hammered home a fifth to cap a dominant Arsenal display.

Slowly Starting To Like Twitter A Lot More

I used to be a lot more involved in Twitter back in the day. And when I say back in the day from the years of 2009-till 2017. I was quite active with many fellow Indian Twitter users in the state and especially the ones from Cochin. We used to have a few Tweetups in cafes around the city and I used to join them for a latte and a chat. Those were the days man. I made quite a few friends in and around the state and I still have quite a few friends from those days.

Slowly I stopped using Twitter for a while and then picked it up again a while later. Twitter became a shitshow for the most part. For so long, all I did on Twitter were the automatic Tweets from my blog posts – every time I posted on my blog, my connected Twitter app would tweet the link along with the title of the post and every week I would also share a few Youtube videos that I felt just had to share. But I wasn’t even checking Tweets by the people I follow for the longest time.

This year I have slowly started getting back to it. It’s mostly football related but also Science Fiction/Star Trek related stuff and yeah I also flirt online. I’ve become more and more available on the app and the Tweetdeck page that I normally use. But it still is my least liked social media app. But it’s better than the last few years.

Some Amazing Facts About Orca Whales

1. Orcas Aren’t Whales : Orcas are often called killer whales—they certainly have the size to be listed among those massive creatures. However, orcas are not actually whales; they are dolphins (and the largest species of dolphin, at that). Taxonomically, they fall into the Delphinidae family, which are oceanic dolphins. It is theorized that the misnomer was originated by sailors who saw orcas’ ferocious hunting of large marine animals and dubbed them “whale killers.” Then, the term somehow got flipped around over time.

2. They Have Evolved Based on Culture : Research conducted by Andrew Foote, a killer whale genetics expert, found that orcas and humans share an ability for culture-based evolution. In a 2016 study, Foote and a team of researchers analyzed the genes of different orca pods and discovered that distinctions in genes coincided with distinctions in culture, such as group social behaviors. One of the most apparent examples of this was in the orcas’ hunting behavior—different groups will hunt different types of prey using different techniques. Eventually, those distinctions result in differences in genomes, meaning cultural groups become genetically distinct.

3. They Go Through Menopause : Many members of the animal kingdom maintain the ability to reproduce until their deaths. But some species are exceptions to this, including the orca and of course, humans. Why would a species evolve to stop producing mid-life? For the orca, it has to do with their social practice of staying in pods. Because both sons and daughters remain in the pod throughout adulthood, older females are increasingly related to everyone in the pod.

4. Orca Clans Speak Different Languages : Orcas stick to family groups called pods, which together form larger societal groups called clans. One of the ways clans—and even individual pods—are distinct from others is their language. Clans “speak” completely different languages. These large groups coming together would be like trying to have a conversation between an English speaker, a Russian speaker, and a Chinese speaker. While the pods that make up each clan all speak the same language, they each have a distinct “dialect.” It’s much like how English speakers in the United States have Southern, New England, and Midwestern accents. Before this discovery, humans were the only known animals to evolve based on culture.

5. They Are the Second-Most Widespread Animal in the World : After humans, orcas are the most widespread mammal in the animal kingdom. The species ranges from the Arctic to the Antarctic and can be found everywhere, from the freezing waters of the north and south to the warm waters along the equator, including the Hawaiian Islands, Galapagos Islands, and the Gulf of California. Not only have orcas been seen in all of the world’s oceans, but they have also been spotted in freshwater rivers. One even swam more than 100 miles up the Columbia River in Oregon as it hunted fish.

6. Orcas Scare White Sharks : When orcas and white sharks confront one another, it is the white shark that flees. Research conducted at the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California followed a group of white sharks for several months.3 These sharks always fed in the same place, but when two pods of orcas arrived, the sharks fled and did not return for months. It is possible that orcas are targeting white sharks. Another theory is simply that orcas bully white sharks away from prey in the area. Either way, even if orcas are just passing through, white sharks will not return to a location for up to a year. (via Treehugger.com)

How Will You Be Spending Halloween This Year?

Well since I live in India, I will not be going for any Halloween parties and I will not be dressing up in a costume and I will not be sending out any kids for Trick or treating. Well that’s because we don’t have any of these practices in India and as for the kids, well I do not have any.

We do not celebrate it here at all, with the sole exemptions of some companies who will conduct some activities in their offices but that is also just a trickle compare to the big festivities that happen in the US, the UK & Canada. So I will be sitting in at home and just chilling. I have to work from 9:30 pm till 6:30 am – yes the dreaded vampire shift. So I will try to watch a movie in the afternoon. Like a horror movie.

But I do have some candy. Some Hersheys white chocolate candy bars. Nice!

Where Do You blog? Share Your Space.

This is the place where from 2007 onwards I have been maintaining this blog and writing the vast majority of my blog posts. And before that for a few months on my old blogspot blog as well. This small table is what I bought back in 2006 just after I bought my assembled desktop pc. In 2010 as my system had many issues, I bought my first laptop which was a Lenovo and then in 2015 I bought a Dell and in 2019 I bought this laptop that you see here which is my current work horse HP.

However for the last 2.5 years or more I have not been using this as my space to blog. Since I have a large desktop from work, and the table is small, I use my laptop kept on a laptop stand on my bed and I use that to blog on and ofcourse play music, watch YT videos and Facebook etc. Someday I will get my former blogging space back and be able to keep my laptop on the table. Until then, ma cherie!

Pablo Mari Among People Stabbed In Italy

A man grabbed a knife from a supermarket shelf Thursday and stabbed five people, killing one and wounding four others, including Spanish soccer player Pablo Mari, Italian authorities said. Police arrested a 46-year-old Italian man suspected in the attack at a shopping center in Assago, a suburb of Milan, carabinieri said. A supermarket employee died en route to the hospital, according to the news agency ANSA, which said three other victims were in serious condition. Another person was treated for shock but not hospitalized, police said.

The motive for the attacks was unknown, but police said the man showed signs of being psychologically unstable. There were no elements to suggest terrorism. Mari, who is on loan to the Serie A club Monza from Arsenal, was among the wounded. Arsenal said in a statement that Mari was at the hospital but was not seriously hurt. Monza club CEO Adrian Galliano wished the soccer player a speedy recovery in a message posted on Twitter.

Witnesses told ANSA they saw people fleeing the supermarket in shock, and as the gravity of the situation became clear, shop workers pulled down the store’s shutters. The Carrefour supermarket chain said that police and ambulance crews responded immediately to calls alerting them about the attack. The chain expressed its sympathies to employees and clients affected by the attack and said it was offering them psychological support. Arsenal have been in contact with Pablo’s agent who has told us he’s in hospital and is not seriously hurt.

PSV Eindhoven 2 Arsenal 0

The Gunners only needed a point in the Netherlands to advance to the last 16 next March. But Joey Veerman’s first-time finish from 16 yards and a header by substitute Luuk de Jong – after a mistake by keeper Aaron Ramsdale on his European debut – meant Arsenal lost in Europe for the first time this season. PSV, managed by former Manchester United forward Ruud van Nistelrooy, also had three goals ruled out for offside as Arsenal were well beaten.

The Gunners need to beat Zurich, who they defeated 2-1 in Switzerland on 8 September, in their final group game next Thursday at Emirates Stadium (20:00 GMT) to guarantee a place in the last 16. If they fail to win and PSV beat Bodo/Glimt in Norway, Arsenal will face two extra games in the knockout round playoffs, which will also include teams who finished third in their Champions League groups, including Barcelona. Arsenal had been pretty much faultless in Europe this season after four wins out of four, including a narrow 1-0 win over PSV at Emirates Stadium last week. This was their biggest test to date on the continent, yet they were second best as PSV – who included Jarrad Branthwaite, on loan from Everton, in the centre of defence – produced a dominant performance in front of their own fans.

Cody Gakpo and 19-year-old former Paris St-Germain midfielder Xavi Simons caused the Gunners defence all sorts of problems. Gakpo had two goals ruled out for offside and Simons one. Arsenal were living dangerously and it was no surprise when Veerman swept the hosts ahead before De Jong struck after Ramsdale failed to connect while trying to clear a corner. By the end, Arsenal finished with substitutes Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka and Thomas Partey on the pitch but they were unable to rescue a point. They remain favourites to finish top of the group, but Arteta now seems unlikely to be in a position to rest key players before the heavyweight London derby at Chelsea on 6 November after a second defeat in 16 games this season.

How To Make Your Morning Habits Affect You In A Positive Way

What morning habits help you have a good day?

Some simple things. If I get up early but I don’t feel too tired or sleepy then that is a really good start to the day. I want to be able to have had enough rest but I don’t want to oversleep and wake up late, which means that I will have less time to do things the rest of the day. So earlyish wake up is a good thing and step one.

Big cup of coffee as soon as I brush my teeth? Yes. Even better? A second big cup of coffee later on the morning will make things a whole lot brighter and make me feel more awake. A nice breakfast – I like a lighter breakfast; just some peanut butter on toast or some vegan garlic mayo on toast. A solid morning listening to music as I eat my breakfast and enjoy my coffee. Watch some Youtube videos and debates and have a relaxing morning.

Other than that I don’t think I need much to have a good day. I usually take a shower later on in the day. But yeah if I can get a nice shave and a shower in the morning, then it will be a really refreshing start to the day.
