Silent Hill Revelation is the follow up to 2006’s Silent Hill which was based on the highly popular survival horror video game of the same name. The sequel, released last year, is a Canadian-French production written & directed by Michael J Bassett & produced by Samuel Hadida & Don Carmody. The film also standsout in having actror selected by fan suggestion and was shot on a $20 million budget and filmed in Canada. The movie sees Sean Bean return as the father of lead character Sharon now called Heather played by Adelaide Clemens, Kit Harington (Jon Snow from Game Of Thrones) and featuring supporting roles by Deborah Kara Unger, Martin Donovan, Malcolm McDowell & Carrie-Ann Moss who plays the lead antagonist.
At the start of the film we find Sharon, who’s name was chaged to Heather Mason and her adoptive father Christopher/Harry Mason assuming different identities and moving from town to town. We learn that Rose, her mother, was able to free Sharon/from one of the alternate dimensions using one half of a talisman called the Seal of Metatron, but Rose remained trapped in Silent Hill and has not been seen again. In the new town, just as she is about to turn 18 Heather is haunted by hallucinations & dreams of Silent Hill. She is traced by a PI who was hired by the Order (the cult of Silent Hill) but he changes his mind and wants to help her evade them. Heather warns Harry, but he is abducted by the Order and taken to Silent Hill. Unaware of this, Heather goes to a mall to wait for Harry, but enters the Silent Hill’s Otherworld. Douglas explains he was hired by the Order to find Heather, but decides to help her when he discovered who his clients were. A monster, the Missionary, kills Douglas, but returning to the real world, Heather flees, leaving her a suspect to Douglas’ murder.
Her new friend from school, Vincent, escorts her home where they find a message instructing her to go to Silent Hill. Heather learns the truth by reading a letter from her father, and decides to go to Silent Hill to rescue him; she takes the other half of the Seal of Metatron which is stored in her house. At a motel Vincent reveals that he is the son of the Order’s leader Claudia and was sent to bring Heather to Silent Hill willingly but he wants to help her and save her. He tells her that she is is a part of Alessa Gillespie, a girl who was burnt 38 years ago by the Order, leading her to create the town’s shifting dimensions. A shift to the Otherworld occurs, and Vincent is dragged away by the Missionary after telling Heather to find his grandfather Leonard who possesses the Seal of Metatron’s other half. Heather then goes to Silent Hill in search of Leonard and meets Alessa’s mother Dahlia who tells her that Claudia has a big purpose for Heather. After dodging several hideous monstrous creatures – the mannequin spider is totally awesome as are the faceless killer mannequin nurses – she finds Leonard who demands her half of the seal and fuses it with the other half inside him. He becomes a strong creature and attacks Heather but she is able to disable him by shooting at hi and digging the completed seal from inside his flesh. She frees Vincent, who is condemned from betraying the order for falling for Heather. Dark Alessa, the manifestation of Alessa’s wrath, confronts Heather who embraces her counterpart, absorbing her and making Alessa complete once again. Meanwhile Vincent is captured again.
Heather confronts Claudia, who is holding Harry and Vincent hostage. Claudia explains that Alessa’s destiny was to be the incubator for a deity worshipped by the Order; the deity will punish all sinners upon its birth and Heather’s destiny will be complete. Realizing Leonard’s words, Heather gives Claudia the Seal of Metatron, revealing her to be the Missionary. Heather summons the creature Red Pyramid, who kills the Missionary, allowing Heather to rescue Vincent and Harry. As the fog fades from town, Harry decides to stay in Silent Hill to find and free Rose, leaving Heather in Vincent’s care. Heather and Vincent hitch a ride with a truck driver (and leave town, as Silent Hill is consumed by fog.
As much as I liked the first one, which was a decent horror flick, this one turned out to be a lot more boring and predictable. A shame though because of the said really cool creatures that I dug. 5.5 outta 10!
