Today is day two of the ongoing bus owners strike in the state. They are protesting over the recent increase in the rates for petrol & fuel. What this does to the city of Cochin (I’m going to concentrate on my hometown) is this:
- It causes severe difficulties to those folk who have to go to work but don’t have a vehicle at home
- It also causes road blocks for a few kilometers at a time. If you normally take 15 minutes to drive from your house to the office, today it will take you at least an hour! Minimum!
- Which means it also causes problems for folks with their own vehicles because now even they are delayed
- Daylight robbery – there are some people who run temporary transport services but they charge you horrendous rates in order to make as much profit as possible.
So once again, we are at the mercy of these games that the government & the bus owners play. I took the day off yesterday since I plan to work on the 15th to make up for it. I have been waiting for the company cab from 8:20 am. It is now 10 minutes past 10 am.
